Title: Next New Gear Shop Item
Post by: Sister Wolf on February 08, 2010, 09:42:07 AM
Okay ladies and gentlemen of the jury - I'm curious as to what you'd most like to see in the gear shop next.  We'll go ahead with whatever gets the most choices, and then we'll re-evaluate which items will come next based on the number of votes they get.  :)

Comments are welcome!

If it were the beginning of the fall or even winter I would go with hoodie, but since we are coming out the other side of winter, I am going to go with the subdued shirt.

So an SOE bag with .... what? embroidered logo? screen printed logo? or a patch sewn on?

Questions on top of your questions...

Which of these options is:
1. the most durable?
2. the least expensive to produce?

And MOLLE/PALS attachment points on back of the bag.  No need for the webbing on the front if it's a small bag.

Hopefully that is doable and doesn't add to the cost of the bag too much.

Somehow I totally missed that John Willis does CUSTOM bags.  I'm emailing him now.

Email sent.  This is the bag I'm considering, except with MOLLE webbing across one of the long sides, and a long shoulder strap added to it (and the whole thing in Foliage Green, maybe with black straps).

I like the idea of a bag, but something a bit smaller. Something like Gray Ghost has posted here (http://thesurvivalpodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=13232.0). I was thinking more of a day bag than the kit bag, but I'd probably be happy with the kit bag as well. I'd just use it differently. The kit bag from S.O.E. is much more cost efficient than their other bags.

I was thinking of something around 12 inches long.  Not huge, but not tiny, either.  FAK size.

Logo as a patch if possible!

I like the bag idea.  I would definitely buy a couple subdued, rectangular, velcro backed TSP logo morale patches(tan and OD green) as well!

Hey guys, just want to do a quick post here.

Been very, very busy for the last little while, but I wanted to let you know that as SOON as I emailed John Willis with SOE Tactical about the "kit bag" idea, he responded IMMEDIATELY, and has been very excited ever since about getting the project underway.  I'm going to order them very soon, and we'll get them in the store by the end of the month.

:-)

Another idea... I work as an Engineer, and I can't wear hats etc... in the office.  How about some simple golf type shirts with a small logo on the front pocket.  Dark blue, black, and tan would be good for colors.  Maybe 2 or 3 types of logos, especially one that is confusing to the uninitiated that will get people asking / thinking.

(I need a 2x at least if you're sending a freebie for the idea hint hint  ;) )

Nadir - I'm waiting for a response from John Willis to find out if I've drawn up the bags the way he wants to make them.  Once I get the OK, I'll post pics of the proto.

Fyrekat - If/when we get polos, I WILL send you a free one for coming up with the idea.  ;)  Just please remind me that I said that.  I will forget.

Subdued patches are being made for us right now, but they are NOT rectangular.  I'll get some rectangular ones made too, with velcroe on the backs.

We're waiting for John to finish up with a huge overseas order.  When he's done with that, here's how it will work (as far as I know)....

I'm going to send the patches to John in the next week or so (less than that, probably).  When he makes the bags and sews the patches on, he will send them back to me (I'm really uncomfortable having anybody drop-ship items.  "I" want to send them to our customers, and know that they're in our hands that WE are responsible for them and know where they are.  I'm a control freak like that).  When I know that they are done, because I can see them in my hands, I will put them up for sale in the gear shop.

I can't tell you how long that will take.  I know that John's a very busy guy, and that we have to stand in line like everybody else.

I'm sorry I can't be more specific than that.   :-\  But I know they're coming!  ;)

I was thinking of a shirt something along this line. TSP logo at the top
Then text "You Don't Have To Be Another Face In The Crowd"
Under the text, a crowd of faces, maybe sheep and ostrich like.
Then one face a little bolder in the crowd.... Ant-like or Val  (Maybe with a hoe or trowel held up)
And finally text underneath... "The Revolution Is You"

Just a thought,
 any artists out there???

I have a variation of that idea.  I call it the "Anti-Che" T-shirt!
It's a red Shirt.  Instead of  a picture of CHe Guivera, with"Viva la Revolution".

It would have a picture of Jack Spirko, holding the trombone squash in each hand(from the YouTube video),And underneath the picture:"THE REVOLUTION IS YOU!"
And on the back of the shirt, you'd have  www.thesurvivalpodcast.com (http://www.thesurvivalpodcast.com) !!!

What do you think??

You're by no means alone, OKGranny - I have several boonie hats and typically wear them when hiking, gardening, or otherwise spending long hours outdoors.

Any chance a large child's-size T-shirt might be offered someday?  My 11-year-old son is a big fan of TSP.  When I purchased a shirt for myself earlier this year, he was quick to inquire about whether he could get one. :)  Since he's kind of "compact" for his age, I told him that he could order a small, but that it would unfortunately still probably be too big for day wear.  Just wondering--not sure what kind of a following Jack might have out there among the younger set (though from what I've been able to deduce, there are plenty of forum members with children!).

Also, I have to say that I like the suggestion made re: the use of the text "You don't have to be another face in the crowd" and "The revolution is you", along with the web address on the back.  (The current theme song has great lyrics.)  I think the words are just edgy enough to be an effective attention-grabber --something to get people interested enough to check out the website.

Serenity,

Kids shirts isn't even something I've considered.  I'll definitely do them, but I need more storage space before they're a possibility.  T-shirts take up a LOT of space, and while I am positive that kids shirts would eventually sell, I think they'd sell a bit slower than adult shirts.  Thus, I think kids shirts are about two years out, unfortunately (after we get out of California).

Bartsdad,

Thanks. Now I have yet another item that I'd like to have.  :D  I don't see a way of getting those little creations customized, though.  I'll look around more later today and see what I come up with.  :)

Good ideas guys,

We are working on the SAK's now and the thumbdrives.

I would love to do Mora's also, and have a few feelers out for them.

Problem is that we are leaving next weekend on a 17 day vacation, so most of the research will have to wait until we get back.

Keep the ideas coming, we want your input.

Also someone told me there was some talk about a knife but it needed a sheath or pouch or something. I would be interested in seeing what you need and trying to make it happen. I do leather work.

Thanks,

We are checking into Ant patches.

We are looking at having SAK Trekkers available. These do not have side clips or pouches with them. If you come up with a design for a sheath or pouch for them let us know.
