Title: We Now Accept Credit Cards (In person)
Post by: Sister Wolf on September 14, 2011, 05:54:38 PM
If you are in Southern California and want to buy from the gear shop in person (or if you are attending a meetup where we will be) we now accept credit cards in person. I got a swipe machine and app for my phone just now. ^_^

How much per month is it going to cost you? My wife sure could use this for her business if its cost effective.

It's free. As is the hardware.  It's Intuit GoPayment (you need both the app - which is free, and the hardware - which is free). http://gopayment.com/ go there, apply for the hardware, wait about a half minute, when it says "yay you are awesome and we approve you" then you go and download the app to your smart phone (android, blackberry, iphone, etc) and await the hardware in the mail.

Oh, I mean, they charge a fee for processing payments (2.7%) but Paypal is 2.9% + 30 cents, and authorize.net is about 3% as well, so... it's actually cheaper than doing business online. :)

You may also want to consider Square. They charge 2.75% for all swipes and also mail you the device for your phone for free.

I have been using it (sporadically) for several months and never had an issue.
