Post by: Otis on March 03, 2013, 05:12:42 PM

I've had good results using a 2x4 and using my iron on my highest setting.

Thanks Andy for the video demonstration!  This is the simplest method I have yet seen suggested.

Good video by the way.  So many guys doing Youtube instructions/reviews hem and haw and repeat themselves, and endlessly play with the item under review without showing anything about how it works.  You were to the point yet thorough.

Over the weekend I made my second attempt at sealing mylar bags.  My first effort was a disaster, but I eventually figured out what I did wrong.  Needed to be working on a firmer surface.  So far my second effort appears to be more successful, although I could only get a couple of seals to look as smooth as the ones in your video.  Most are loaded with wrinkles, which make me wonder how air tight the seals really are.    I really like the idea of using a hair straightener instead of a clothing iron.  Thanks!   :)

I use the Iron methos with a level that makes two separate seals. Even if it looks a bit wrinkled you can still tell if its sealed or not.

Hair Straightener!?  Having poker straight hair that NEVER crossed my mind...I love it!  I think that will raise eyebrows when it shows up on my Christmas list this year, lol, but I want one!!!  I have a nice scar on my arm from when the iron got away from me one day while sealing a bag, don't want to do that again.
