Title: Organic food demand outstripping supply
Post by: Chemsoldier on April 06, 2015, 01:51:51 AM
Nothing earth shattering here, just an interesting article on the trials and tribulations of increasing "organic" production to meet the growing market demand.

Article is paywalled :( (or subscription-walled, whatever you want to call it).

Thanks!

Interesting article, though not terribly surprising. I've always thought the organic label was way over-hyped and over-priced, though I have noticed certain products come down in price recently (at least at certain times of the year).

Ugh, having a hard time putting a decent discussion together, I'll try to come up with a more coherent response after I haven't been up all night with insomnia.

Converting conventional land to organic is a long process.  It isn't just something you decide to do next season.  All for a bloody sticker from the government.

Took me forever to find it on Drudge too

This is probably why I am sold out, or close to sold out at our Farmer's Market. I am not certified organic, but we do everything as close to organic as possible. Our livestock feed is not Organic, but it contains no GMO either, is all locally grown and processed at a local mill.

The large corporations have been going more organic the last few years.. the smell of money you know... follow the money... including MONSANTO! http://www.wired.com/2014/01/new-monsanto-vegetables/ (And I think Monsanto almost ought to be banned from doing so in a way, as I can only see how well they are going to screw that up).

Unfortunately when you use the direct link it wants you to subscribe (pay for the content).  Through Drudge was how I figured it out for free.

I know my locals supermarkets have been having a hard time keeping all brands and percentages of organic milk in stock since around Christmas time.
