Title: Hand Crank Ham Radio (walkie talkie)
Post by: SCWolverine on July 13, 2017, 09:05:02 AM
I am in no way or fashion promoting the purchase of the following item.

Helida SY-UV99 Dual Band Amateur Ham Prepper Radio W/ Dynamo Crank Charger and USB Battery Bank

Quote
Every preppers dream radio! One that can be charged by a hand crack, and used to recharge USB devices via its built in 5V DC output (1,800 mAh Maximum Capacity). Dual band frequency coverage, and a full 5W make this one of the most robust radios we have ever offered.

Also includes a desktop charger, and 110V AC adapter.

PRE ORDER: Expected ship date August 1st, 2017

when they start the ad copy like that, you should take notice.  For me, it's another bad idea for a potentially uninformed consumer base that is clamoring for anything to fit a supposed need, but I digress.

Caveat emptor.

It's a repackaged Baofeng!  Hide your money and hasten away.

Thanks for pointing this out before any of my friends encountered it in the wild and asked me about it.

Yes, save your money for their much more practical wrist transceivers.   ;D

It is off topic, but I still watch them on broadcast TV.  The channel METV still airs them: http://www.metv.com/shows/ (http://www.metv.com/shows/).  I use a tablo DVR to record my favorites off air.  I dont pay for cable/satellite.
