Title: New canning flats deals/buys?
Post by: Stwood on January 03, 2018, 05:00:25 PM
I haven't run across any deals (awesome ones) the end of last year.
Has anyone else?

I haven't seen anything either. Just checked the Fresh Preserving site yesterday, nothing there. Have you looked at Menards?

I haven't. The best deals I have found were typically in the late fall, after the big canning effort was mostly past.

No I haven't. We're headed that direction in a couple weeks though.

My experience has also been late fall for the best buys.  It never hurts to keep an eye open, and if you are in the south now might be the best time, but in MI I think the shelves have already been cleared.

Online price but I think you can pick them up in the store. Showing 36 in stock at Lake Ozark if that's close to you.

$1.76 box . Thats not bad, .15 a lid.
Wrong direction from us, but if Sedalia has them on the shelf they will be the same price.
We're headed that way mid month.

OK. Link says the price in the store may vary so who knows. Closest store to me is Hollister, MO. I'm south of Houston  :pissed:

If they are still a buck 76 when I get there I'll pick ya up a case.

They also run several week long 11% store wide sales. If I happen to hit there at the right time.....
Then they have the sack deals sometimes. Everything you can cram in a standard size grocery sack is a % off.

Thanks but I still have all of the 15 boxes I bought last summer plus several boxes I got at Walmart just down the road. Pay more there but don't have to pay shipping like I did from Menards. Shipping made the price much less attractive for me.

Has anyone tried the tattler lids? First time I bought them was from Leman's. They are a bit costly but will save dollars in the long run. I still use the metal ones but I love the tattler lids for SHTF reasons. You will never have to worry about trying to barter for any when things go south. I am looking to find somewhere cheaper to get them. They really work great and can be used over and over again. The rubber gasket you just use till it gets brittle before having to get a new one. Those are cheap. So if you decide to go that route, best to buy some extra gaskets. They working just like the medal ones and you still need to use the rings. Trick is to tighten the rings tighter than you would with the medal rings.

I found an amazing deal on a closeout on jars and lids about 5 years ago... so I have more jars than I have ever actually filled and probably a good 10 years' supply on lids (assuming they don't fail over time). That has kept me from taking the plunge and buying the tattler lids.

I've been catching the sales (none last fall) and probably have 4-5 years on lids.
I also bought lots of jars last summer on sale. Both Ball and Walmart had some good sales on pints and half pints.

Yesterday, in a closed Facebook group I belong to, I saw a post where a member went to a Sam's Club that was closing and bought all the canning jars & lids they had.  50% off.  63 Sam's Club locations are closing around the country.  If you live near one of them, you might want to check it out.

That's pretty close to the deal I got several years ago... I think I may have paid even a little less... a closeout sale (end of season) at a commissary that waaaaay over-ordered.

 8) I bought a whole wad of pints at Ball's site for $5.00 a case this year, with no shipping costs. And Wally's had 1/2 pints for $4 and change.
I though I over bought but looking at my stash, I could use another 20 cases and feel better.

Am always looking for super lid deals, but just hasn't been much this year.

Lid deals have been harder to find this year.   Finding them marked down in the fall or a good coupon to combine with a sale have completely dried up.  I miss the days when Lowes used to carry canning supplies.  I once scored 86 boxes of regular lids for $.17 each when they put them on clearance.

Yes  there was some awesome buys. I bought 3 cases of Empire brand on closeout at Menard's for around .30 a box. Empire is a new company who has seemed to evaporate this year.

Heres another Menards Ball lid deal that Red made me aware of.

We haven't been able to find good deals on lids in over a year around here. I will be having to go out shopping in different places to find some deals. Although on the canning jars I have scored at yard sales all summer last year. Hoping to find more as some of the yard sales were almost giving the jars away. Their loss and my pot of gold.

I had a flea market type place that I would hit monthly, and usually come out with 10-15-20 jars about every time. I'd grab every wide mouth there, for .50 each.
Sadly, they sold out stuff and closed up. I stopped in on their last day open, and bought every jar, including the regular mouth I'd been avoiding.
Ended up with about 40 jars at .25 each.

I can't find the link now. The last time I looked electrolytes were recommended to correct electrolyte imbalance that can be caused by dehydration, medicines such as statins, others. Leg cramps have similar causes apparently. As I recall now I was having a bout of diarrhea and leg cramps and electrolytes were recommended for fluid replacement to help both. I got a bottle Pedialyte, Wally brand, and drank it. Both have been relieved. BTW the electrolyte solution tasted better at room temp.

I discovered some of my meds could be contributing to the cramps and dehydration. Also that one of the BP meds might help the cramps. That one I often forget in the evening, being more careful about that now.

The leg cramps is also a sign of low Potassium. Have that checked next time you see your doctor. That is what happened to hubby and he is now on precription potassium. No more problem. The pedioliye has potassium in it so that should also help if levels are not real low like hubby's was. Glad you are doing better with that.

Managed to snag 100 (bulk) Ball regular mouth lids on Ebay. $18.00 shipped.

Not a super duper deal, but very decent for prices these days.

I think some of those sellers think canning lids are large gold coins.  :o

I haven't really noticed them getting higher but noticed they haven't been on sale at the same lower prices as last years. Of course I also noticed that produce prices have risen noticeable over previous years prices.

I was looking at the Fresh Preserving site this morning and they don't show any prices just say "buy at Walmart". Wonder if there will be the sale on jars like last year.

I haven't searched jars and lids for about a month now.
Jars seem to be the same retail prices as last year. Lids have gone up in most stores that I've seen, except for Menard's. $1.76 for RM lids is still a decent price compared to most retailers. Our Walmart has RM for $2.28 and I won't buy em for that price.

I keep searching Amazon and Ebay and pick up a deal once in a while.
Also our Amish store sells lids (RM) .16 and (WM) for .19
That's in paper tubes of 120 lids. Not to bad, and I try and pick up a tube when we hit that place.

Somehow I prefer to buy from Menards rather than Walmart that is 2 miles away even though I have to pay shipping. Overall price comes out about the same. Can I help it if I don't want to help WalMart and Amazon take over the world?

He has over a hundred cases he bought 10-15 years ago and never used them. I couldn't get him to price them. He want to get them all in one spot first.  ::)

Snagged 9 older boxes of WM off of Ebay and was looking them over today.
Ball boxes has Costco stickers on them. 59 cents
Kerr boxes have stickers with .93 cents.

The side of the ball boxes are advertising their ball canning book. 150 some page book if you mail in $2.00 for it.  That's been a while back.
Lids all are in great shape.

Also got 3 boxes of red rubber seals in the deal. Anyone need those?

Title: Re: New canning flats deals/buys?
Post by: Stwood on May 03, 2018, 04:18:43 PM
Box price. I'm thinking 30-40 year old boxes. About the oldest boxes I remember.
Boxes are thicker, as the lids are not stacked together like the present (new) lids are now.
They are packaged reversed of each other. 2 seals facing, 2 tops facing, etc etc. Keeps the rubber seal compound from touching anything.

Somewhere, I can't find it now, I posted about boiling used lids and using them for vacuum sealing. Works OK so far. Used lids not boiled to expand the seals haven't worked for me in vacuum sealing. Pretty sure that's not what ya'll are taking about though.

I was referring to canning use of the lids. That being said, I haven't had a problem with vacuum sealing with previously-used lids. I never had to soak them in hot water first, either. ymmv.

Yeah I know but I had to throw that in about vacuum sealing. Probably shouldn't have but I have had used lids that were not boiled come right off with the sealing adapter.

Not sure about yours, but our foodsaver jar adaptor is a pain in the kahootie sometimes.
Tempted to put it under the hydraulic press sometimes. Can't seem to get enough downward pressure for the vac to take over. Warming the lids like you do Red may be the ticket
Title: Re: New canning flats deals/buys?

Problem I have is getting the bloody thing off. 90% of the time the gasket rolls up and stays on the jar. Another thing I've noticed is that after vacuuming with that Foodsaver Handheld doohickey I sometimes use my MityVac on it. I can pull almost 30 inches of mercury with it. Sometimes that will cause the lid to pop off. Maybe it distorts the seal and it comes loose. Haven't had a problem when I've used new lids. The whole thing is weird.

So the hunt is on again this year for canning flat deals. (Jars too for those that need jars  ;D)

I haven't been to the amish stores in a while, but I'd say for retail, they are still the best price. $20.00 for 120 lids in bulk.

Red found a sale at Menards + a rebate.

I have enough lids for several years, but feel like I need to keep a good supply.

Mason flats. If you haven't already, you should run down to your favorite place to buy canning lids.
I peeked on Amazon today. Case of regular mouth flats $191.00 (432 lids).

Our best deal here is still the Amish stores.

I have not bought flats for years - I use the Tattler for everything but bacon.  Are they going up in price then?  Just curious for the sake of information.

I am going to look next time I am at the store.  I need to pick up a few boxes of pint jars anyway.  Amazon has 8 boxes (a dozen in a box) for $44 - $6/box :o

Same place I'm seeing Orchard Road one piece lids for $1.69 dz. I haven't run it through for the shipping cost.

http://www.pressurecooker-outlet.com/Orchard-Road-Canning-Jar-Lids.htm

Sorry to be late seeing this, I am not happy wiht the performance of orchard road lids compared to regular ball lids.  First, the orchard road does not have a "belly button" slight bump in the middle, which means I have seen them almost fold and hten right themselves upon cooling 9 that may have been pressure canning ) also, some jars of carrot habanero butter ( so, vinegar, lime juice, habanero ingredients, water bath canned) has upon opening shown degradation where the sealant edge is, so much that the sealant ( what is the correct name for that ? ) is rippled and pulled away from the metal, and the metal there shows some discoloration.  The seal stayed just fine.  I ate the condiment.  But, I will no longer use them for any pickled product or use them for pressure canning, I will use them up for jams and tomatoes and I do not buy any more

I did just bought some packages of the Walmart brand last month, and I will try those out.  There is no walmart in this county, but I am in locations that have one a few times a year, so if they work out, I can stock up.  I think they were around .10/lid. plus our insane almost 10% sales tax -- in my opinion, canning jars and lids should be exempt, like food and seeds as they are for food, but..... it is what it is

I haven't tried the Orchard Road lids, still have 36 dozen Ball/Kerr lids I bought from Menard's a couple years ago. Don't remember the price but even paying shipping it was better than Walmart and I can get those locally. That was the break even, save a little quantity. I think I saved around $8.50.

I've had a few Orchard Roads, came with the jars. Don't remember any problems MM. 5-6? cases of regular mouth.

On those Mainstays (Walmart lids) we had a canner load that 4 of 7? lids I think buckled under pressure (I may still have the pics). They stayed buckled, but did not unseal.
I won't buy any more of those. They were less than 2 dollars I think. Made in China, as is all Mainstay products from Walmart.
Title: Re: New canning flats deals/buys?

Orchard Road is also made in China

The buckling did straighten out as they cooled

SO, basically, between the 30 or more boxes of orchard road and the dozen of Mainstay, I have no good lids, but I guess I will just have to use these up and hope for better next year

I've noticed that when they are boiled the seal areas return to unused looking. I know reuse is not recommended but I have boiled and reused a few for water bath canning. No failures that I recall. I haven't used any previously used lids for pressure canning.

I've re-used a lot of lids that look in good shape for water bath canning with good success. I'm happily making jam again now that we are settled... so far lots of strawberry, some raspberry and blueberry, and most recently, peach jam. I made all these batches with no pectin and have been very pleased with the consistency. If you like a more firm and solid jelly or jam, this wouldn't be for you, but I have to say they are all pretty fantastic stirred into my homemade Greek yogurt.

No Amish stores in the state.   When I went to Walmart, it had very, very little in the canning area, it is a small area in that location, but people had being buying it out was obvious.  I was lucky to get the regular mouth mainstay lids and a couple canning jar flats, and not the larger ones I was looking for, but I should have plenty of jars. I very rarely am traveling in an area that has a Walmart, maybe once or twice a year

The big grocery store in town had a dz wide for $3.79 and the regular were $2.69.

no quart jars of either size, only pint (both wide and reg) and half-pints.

They only had Ball.

We save most all used lids. The good ones we put on jelly jars and also use them to vacuum pack mason's with.
We've never reused any for canning, but have had an oopsie a couple times and got a used one that was marked in the canner. They sealed so...... ???

After we empty and wash jars in the house, I put used lids with rings on them to keep them clean inside. We still rewash when canning though.
Then they all get sorted and boxed and put away.
Sometimes I'll store a dozen jars a week that we've emptied.

Yes I save all lids unless badly bent when opening a jar. I also put used washed lids and rings on washed jars for storing. Also I hate washing jars especially quarts but it's necessary and we don't have a working dishwasher. Main reason to get another but it's just two of us. Hand wash 15 minutes max.

thus far, I have used small hands to get mine clean.  Unfortunately, my little hands have been growing, and now only one child has hands small enough to reach inside a reg mouth jar  :(
I have found that a dishrag with a dish brush works pretty well.

those Tattlers are looking a better deal now than when I bought them.  When I bought them, they were 7x the cost of the flat metal ones.

at $2.69/dz at my store, and $8.33/dz from tattler, it is only 4x the price.

Amish lids I get figure around .16 each in 120 packs, which I'm pretty positive they are the unmarked lids from Ball.
Same lids that the Amish use on their jams and pickling jars.

I also watch the deals on Ebay. I've picked up deals there. The candle makers throw their lids and rings on there after buying new jars. Most are ball.

They will list box of 100 lids and rings, bulk, free shipping sometimes for 25-30 dollars. Course if yer like me, you don't need rings.

Amish store raised their prices on flats by 3.00 per 5 dozen last week. And, a limit of 5 dozen. Wide Mouth. They had no RM, and jar inventory was really low on the brand they use. US company in Arkansas.
There was no Ball jars there is sight, which they usually have.

Today I cruised the jar aisle in Walmart, and no lids in sight. Also there wasn't any quart jars, just a few cases of pints and a couple cases of jelly jars.
Canning season is just beginning around here.

Be sure to follow the directions carefully.  See if you can find Cedar’s tips on using them.  Give an extra 1/4” headspace on most items and 1/2” on sugary or greasy items

I have about 20% fail rate on tattlers.  Enough that I was ready to go back to metal this year.  But this is the wrong year for that.  Cedar had an almost zero fail rate.  I don’t know what I am doing wrong.  Anyway experiment  and have a plan for jars that don’t seal

I've got a large amount of stock of regular canning lids that I'm using this year. I think most of them are probably about 8 years old, from a purchase when a big closeout was happening and I got them for so little money, I couldn't believe it (can't remember the exact price). I'm having more than usual the amount of failures, but am not sure if I'm not preheating them long enough or what. I had 100% success on my latest water bath canning batch, but had at least 1-2 failures in my previous 3 pressure canning escapades...

My plan for those failures is to eat them with meals very soon :) We've had a lot of green beans with dinner recently lol.

We'll have a couple to fail every couple of canner loads. If we do 2 loads in a row, I'll usually re-lid the fails.
Most of our fails I can find debree? (come on spellck) under a lid. So either over fill or over cooked. I've been preaching we are over pressuring  ::) but it hasn't sunk in yet. I finally put a gauge on the canner along with the rattler. She's starting to see...

Good on lids here also. I've shopped/bought the deals for several years now. Can probably go 5-6 years without any new purchases.
I also have some older Kerr's that when opened, part of the seal will stay on the jar and has to be scraped off. Normally that doesn't happen. I'm still going to use them up.

I've been cruising ebay this am. Most all lid sales now are a rip.  :(
Fixing to go ck Amazon. Used to be some deals there.

Took my  daughter for an hour driving lesson and had her stop at a small local Ace store.  They had plenty of regular mouth lids, so I picked up 10 dozen.  $3.59 in my area.  Seems that the Ace stores have stuff in stock, but it is kind of hit or miss.  This store had plenty of regular mouth lids and a lot of 1/2 pint and 1/2 gallon jars.  The store I went to earlier had plenty of pint jars and some regular mouth lid/ring boxes, but that was it.  The store my wife went to the other day had plenty of wide mouth lids, but no jars or regular mouth lids.  So just keep looking around.

Fully understand. But......you have to take care of yourself.
You can't help out others if you are not in shape to deal with these things.

On the lids, I've bought and bought, mainly catching the deals, for the last 4-5 years. Caught a lot of heat from the Boss, but she realizes what and why now.

So......do what you think is necessary. I called a friend this morning, telling him if he didn't have enough for a season or 2, he'd better be finding some.

Agreed, but there's a big difference between taking care of yourself and taking care of yourself at the expence of others.

And I'll be buying a lot of lids in the "off season" for now on.  I've always kept about a season's worth of lids on hand, but with the bumper crop this year, I need more than normal.  So I'm going to make sure I have at least 3 seasons worth on hand for now on.

We needed some additional pint jars for salsa, pizza sauce and some other stuff.  Everyplace around here is sold out of everything but 4 ounce and half gallon jars.  The wife suggested the Amish store about 45 minutes up the road.  She called and they told her they had 5 regular pint flats and 4 wide mouth flats.  We had them hold the 5 regular mouth flats and we headed up this evening.

When we got there it was apparent that the guy she spoke with didn't actually check for the jars.  Here's a shot of the canning aisle.

update on prices in Northern Utah.

well, actually, while visiting family in Northern Idaho, the local Ace had reg. pints JARS for $7.99/dz.  I almost bought some up there at that price, but realized that I could go home and buy jars elsewhere; those in that town, that store is pretty much it, and I didn't want to take their supply.

Here in Logan Utah, however:

Wide quart: $13.69/dz
Reg quart: $11.99/dz
Reg pint: $10.39/dz
(I did not get a picture of the wide pints)

Reg seals: $2.99/dz
Wide seals: $3.79/dz

and there were MANY MANY in stock

--------

also as an aside - what is with the new signs on the new boxes of jars and seals: https://www.startpage.com/av/proxy-image?piurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.healthycanning.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2FBall-Kerr-SureTight-lids-FB.jpg&sp=1596936511Te28dabe227fdb89e4384c3c306159ee6e419fcf067c1d42f11d443e20de3c6b3

"NEW AND IMPROVED helps keep canned foods sealed for up to 18 MONTHS" - um, is that an improvement cuz I have had food sealed in them for a lot longer than that; someone gave me 8 dz quart jars in 2009 - I just had to take them full of peaches canned by her grandma in 1992.  She was tired of cleaning out the jars, and was just getting rid of them.
my point - did they do something to the seals so they will pop after 18 months?

Wide mouth lids are $4.59
Half gallon jars are $16 per 6

Just curious if you guys make use of half gallon jars.  If so, what do you can in them?  I'm thinking that I may get some to try some fermenting in them.  Just looking at the jars in the store, the half gallon jars don't use wide mouth lids, correct?  They seem to be bigger than wide mouth.

I've seen the 18 month deal on the new boxes for a couple? of years now. Maybe thats there way of getting out of liability? Who knows.......especially these days.

$7.99 is a normal price for pints around here, or used to be.

1/2 gallon. We use several, mainly for dry storage.
Several are full of lentils. And we've water bathed juice in them. Elderberry and blackberry juice mainly. When we don't want to do jelly or jam right away but preserve the juice and get the jars out of the frig or get the fruit out of the freezer.

Our ball 1/2 gallon do take the WM lids.

I have about 18 half-gallon jars.  I use them for 3 things:

1) we have a local honey place that will fill your containers with local honey.  I try to keep 6 2-qt jars full at all times.  It is a size manageable to still use if it crystalizes (but I have been buying a variety that crystalizes slower than clover) but it is still a large amount.

2) raw milk.  There is a dairy here were we can take our own containers and fill those.  Half-gallon works perfect for my family.

3) fermenting.  These are my favorite fermenters: https://www.amazon.com/FARMcurious-Mason-Mold-Free-Fermenting/dp/B00MW97ERY I have others but these are the most versatile while still being effective.

they are wide mouth.  I have some older ones that are regular; those are the ones I use for honey.  But the new ones are all wide-mouth

You know you can just put the jar in hot water and it will uncrystallize.

For the lids, I've never picked the 1/2 gallon up, just looked on the shelf.  It must be the proportions that make it look like the lid is bigger than wide mouths.

exactly (although once I have done that, it seems to crystalize faster the next time).  which is why I like the glass jars.  and the bigger makes it easier to cook with when we make a big batch of something and we need 3 c of honey

also, I hate the flavor of clover honey.  it is too sweet.

home dried greens
Dried Greens?  you mean like spinach, kale and collards?  Do you just add them to soups and smoothies?  How do you use dried greens?

Like kale leaves and magenta spreen lambsquarters leaves.

I use them in all the usual ways after rehydrating.  So, in soups or stir frys or as a side dish.  If you are not using in soup, you soak in water to rehydrate.

Most of the time, I have fresh greens actually just growing in the garden, but there are times when the kale has bolted and the magenta spreen is not growing yet, so for those shoulder seasons, it is good to have some in jars ready to use.  High vitamin greens are my major go to vegetable.  Also, just for preparedness,  a small amount of the greens will provide alot of vitamins.  I dry low heat, so they are basically a raw food just full of all the nutrients of fresh greens.

I know people may not use dehydrated vegetables in a stir fry, but you should try it.  Often if I do this, it is a mix, so maybe carrots ( not dehydrated) and re-hydrated kale, re-hydrated cabbage, if lucky a few pieces of re-hydrated peppers.  An egg or two for protein, with a simple stor fry sauce over rice.  Or, instead of egg for protein, a peanut sauce, which is realy easy, base is peanut butter and hot water in equal amounts, some vinegar, soysauce, cayenne

I dont make smoothies, but you could absolutely rehydrate greens and then drain and add to smoothies

Reports I've heard from friends here, within 30 miles, if you need flats, you'll have to buy new jars to get the flats.

If.........they have any jars.

FWIW, no endorsement here, but lids usually can be used twice if they are in good condition.  I've experimented with it and usually get a seal, although I simmer my lids, which may help.

Yeah, I've used them 2 times in the past.  Not often, but I want to say back in 2009 or so, last time there was a shortage on the lids.

Normally we don't use used for pressure canning, but have had a oopsie or 2.
I save all used lids, mainly to put on the empty washed jars when they go back to storage, and, for vacuum packing jars.

I use lacquer thinner to clean off the magic marker identifying  marks, and have noticed after canning, I've used a used lid.  ::)

Yes, I've had limited success after simmering/boiling used lids. The plastisol seal re expands. I used them several for water bath canning and vacuum sealing. I haven't tried pressure canning with them.

I just went through my stash of rings and lids that I had packed up before we moved 2 years ago... quite a few of the rings were rusty enough that they were tossed... mostly they were fine, though. I found an extra 5 boxes of unused lids, too.

I have often re-used lids that were from water bath canned things, like jams, especially. Also, I use undamaged lids for vacuum sealing as well. I also don't try it for pressure canning, though. I use new lids for that every time.

After having a box of rm tattlers sitting here for a couple of years, I decided to use them.
I put 6 on pints of green beans today. The other 6 will go on pints of sweet corn when we get to the corn.
I'm impressed with them. They sealed right up. I tightened the ring just like I tighten metal flats.
Start the ring and turn with one hand until the jar spins, then give it a sight tic

I'll monitor the seal as time goes on. If my quantity is correct, these will be opened in 3 years

My tattler lids didn't get to me until after I had already bought a bunch of lids.  So I'll try them out sooner or later.

my seals that fail fail either in the first day, or within the first month.  Non-greasy and non-sugary items seem to do better.

I'll never understand that.  You can go directly to the Tattler folks and get that dozen count box for $8.99.  I think you'd have to pay shipping, but that would still end up being half the price of on Amazon.

I bought mine in bulk packaging.

Same here. I wonder if a distributor is jacking the price

I think that in most cases this is just an opportunist that happened to have the product in hand.  I know that anyone can sell on Amazon.  I thought about putting my "extra" wide mouth lids on Amazon.  I bought them at about $3/dozen and they were selling at about $12/dozen.  But like I said before, I don't want to be "that guy"

Just looked tattler's site over. Free shipping on anything.

Looks to be the bulk deals (no boxes) are the best.
100 RM lids and seals, shipped $65.00

In South Central PA, the regular mouth pint jars are $10.99 per dozen.
Regular lids are $2.99
Wide mouth lids are $4.59
Half gallon jars are $16 per 6

Found it. I remember this 1/2 gallon jar and canning coming up. Discussing it here with the wife.
Amish canning came up, then jar size. Amish can most/all of their meat when they have quanity. Wife seems to think they can with 1/2g also.
We're ck'in the ball book as she seems to remember something in there also.
So my questions are building up for the Amish next time I visit with them. They just keep moving into this area, from PA mainly.

Nothing in the ball book (Blue) so far.

16oz to 32oz is double the product, and 15 minutes processing time added.

If you go from 32oz to 64oz, which is double the product, do you add that same 15 minutes, or more?. Hmmm

There may be a point where the water in the canner runs out by upping process time.

Discuss??  ;D
