Title: Is there a way to set up a file transfer system with an Android phone and HAM
Post by: kid_couteau on May 01, 2018, 12:52:49 PM
Hi All
The APRS thread got me to thinking

I know there are ways to do email with HAM radios.

Is something similar to this possible with a radio and an Android device?

CONCEPT:
I have a radio and Android Device
Friend has  a radio and Android Device

Could we send files to each other?
Thank you
Kid

DroidPSK app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wolphi.psk31&hl=en
Quote
DroidPSK is able to decode a BPSK31 or BPSK63 signal though the build in microphone. Just hold your Android phone or tablet close to the speaker of you Amateur Radio transceiver, adjust the waterfall slider to the PSK carrier frequencies and DroidPSK will start decoding.

it worx, I've done it!  No encryption simple straight message :)
er, umm files....maybe a picture or a NTS bulletin....

You can send a picture with droidsstv, droidpsk, droidrtty.  For easy portable work with a phone, works great.  How you connect your radio to your phone for digi modes depends on what radio/gear you have.

we send attachments over winlink for ARES drills all the time.  Winlink is an email network, and one of the prominent protocols it uses is packet.
But it's really just email over packet.

Keep in mind, the transfer speeds you can expect will be in the 300-1200 baud range.  Sending a 1MB file is a major ordeal.
For emergency communications, we are setup to send raw data attachments (XML, CSV, etc.) and we have client side stylesheets for rendering the display of the data.

If you know web programming, it's something like applying XSLT to an XML data file.  Just avoiding the HTML portion of the file attachment cuts out transport time nearly in half usually.

But FLDigi has some facilities do this and is a better bet for the android platform.  Again, the main use case is FORMS like I described above for winlink, but you may have a way to leverage that.
