Title: 2000 yr old food forest FOUND!
Post by: Mad_Man on January 02, 2010, 06:08:32 PM
I found the 2000 yr old food forest in Morocco Jack mentioned.  It is called 'Paradise Valley' by the locals.

It can be found on Google Earth (or other mapping software) at

30 deg 33 min 15 sec N

9 deg 33 min 53 Sec W

One thing I notice is the patchwork nature of the 'forest'  I pictured large swaths of various trees, not individual blocks.  This permaculture stuff is more complicated that I thought!

That is pretty cool!

It almost looks like wooded fencelines for very very small garden plots, doesn't it?

That is a good way to describe it.  Makes me want to get a permaculture design guide just to figure out the min/max dimensions of these 'plots'
