EAA Witness 9mm in WonderFinish (or the XD(m))in a Ross M5NS pancake, CRKT Van Hoy snaploc, mini firesteel and scraper in the wallet, CCW badge and ID, watch, ring and testicles.

If you're carrying daily, that means you have testicles....men and women alike.
If you're not carrying......well, you can figure it out, right?

Every Day Carry Equipment

    * Cell phone/Pocket PC (http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/features.do?group=mobilephones&type=mobilephones&subtype=verizonwireless&model_cd=SCH-I760ZKAVZW)
o I also use it for time, email, contacts, appointments, entertainment/games, poker timer & password keeper program
    * SOG Flash II folding knife (http://www.sogknives.com/store/TFSA-98.html)
o I use this often and needs sharpening every week or two.
o This was my first type of knife I started with and figured I would get a better one if I liked carrying it around.
o I haven't needed to upgrade it, but I could be missing out on better quality knives.
o I actually have two of these and when one is dull I switch it out with the other. I don't have to stay on top of the sharpening this way.
    * Surefire Z2 LED Combat Light (http://www.surefire.com/Z2L)
o I use to use the high output light bulb but the battery lasted only 20-30 minutes and now it last 12 hours.
    * Ruger LCP (http://www.ruger.com/LCP) & 1 extra magazine in a Mag-packer (http://www.desantisholster.com/storefrontB2CWEB/itemdetail.do?action=prepare_detail&itm_id=1819&itm_index=0) at work right cargo pocket with Super Fly (http://www.desantisholster.com/storefrontB2CWEB/itemdetail.do?action=prepare_detail&itm_id=1845&itm_index=0) holster
    * Kel-Tec PF-9 (http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/pf9.htm) (not at work) & 1 extra magazine in a Mag-packer front right pocket
    * Leatherman Juice S2 multi-tool (http://www.leatherman.com/multi-tools/pocket-tools/juice-s2.aspx)
o I hardly have to get the toolbox out for quick fixes around the house.
    * Keys (my house FOB looks a bit like sulla's)
o I can separate the truck FOB with only the ignition key and keep my house keys with me.
    * The wallet is a decoy. All the cards are the fake ones that come in the mail with offers.
    * I have my real card wrapped in my main cash wad in my front pocket.
    * 5.11 Taclite Pro Pants
o These don't leave wear marks like the regular 5.11 pants. Everything above has its own pocket.

Wallet
Keys w/ OC Spray
Kershaw Leek Serrated
Ray-O-Vac 3 Watt LED Light
Ronson Butane Lighter
Palm Treo 750
G23 w/ Crimson Trace
Spare Magazine
Yaesu VX-6R HT

This is a bare minimum for me and what I normally have on me throughout the day.  Except for the Glock...can't carry at my job.

Other than this, I normally have a County Comm Sat Comm bag somewhere close with more gear that would probably be considered a GHB.

I went home last night and added some Grim-Locs to my Jumbo Versipak like Swanson has on his 5.11.  No intended purpose, but it seemed like as good a place as any.

GIGAJACK; What is Password keeper program?  Is this something you have on your phone?  Tell me more.  Not so wild guess, is the older of your two vehicles a Blazer or Jimmy?

BADGER; where do you keep that radio?  Just in a pocket with the antenna sticking out?

It is KeePass (http://keepass.info) for the computer and I sync the database file with my KeePass for Smart Devices (http://keepasssd.sourceforge.net) software.

Not so wild guess, is the older of your two vehicles a Blazer or Jimmy?

Both of my vehicles are 1998 Chevrolet Suburban K1500 4WD (http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/overview.aspx?year=1998&make=Chevrolet&model=Suburban).

If I'm just running out to a store or something...yes...I just stick it into a coat pocket or maybe clip it to my belt.  During my workday though, it normally stays on my Sat Comm bag that I carry to and from work.

Once the weather warms up, I'm sure I'll have to find a better way to carry it when I'm not wearing a coat all of the time.

I can't carry the S&W 442 at work. The Altoids contain 2 more speed strips of .38 semi-wadcutters.
Whenever I can't tote the pistol, I have some sort of projectile weapon on me, hence the darts, I keep a slingshot in my car. Some sort of projectile weapon beats none at all.

Usually one of the pistols.  Most likely the .45 unless I cannot wear a loose fitting t shirt or something to cover it.  Sometimes the LCP but any gun is better than no gun.   I often tuck the XML into a pocket and or carry the Surefire 6PLED.   The knife is a benchmade auto folder.  I'd like a different knife for edc as I dont care for the tanto point.   I'll also often slip in a leatherman multi tool.

I was wondering what you guys who ccw your pistols do with them while you are at work? Do you not carry on you work days? Do you lock them in your car? This is something I've been thinking about for myself while I look into getting my wife and I our ccw permits.

I go from home to work, through my work day and then back home unarmed the rest of the time I have my G23 with me. It sucks because there are several of us including the partners in my office that own firearms and shoot we even go to gun shows and go shooting together from time to time but there is one guy, a vet of all people that keeps us from being able to carry in the office. :(

On the days when I am on university property I leave it in my car. For now, a bill is working its way throught he Texas legislature that will end that practice so I can carry at work (one of my jobs anyway)

the only people who carry guns into areas that are illegal are the nuts who want to kill people and not take controlled aimed fire in return.  when was the last time one of these jerks invaded a police station?   what kind of elected official can't see that logic??

I have noticed a few people carry USB flash drives.  Do you have special documents such as contacts, backup maps, evac routes,  etc... on them?  It might not be a bad idea to keep a backup copy of your BOB documentation on the USB or even a SD card than can be put in a computer, phone, or media device in the case that your paper copy gets damaged.  Just a thought...

remember to check the front doors of  businesses for anti-gun or no guns allowed signs.  What do you do when you see one where you are not allowed by law to enter carrying your sidearm?   what i do is i put my weapon in my vehicle.  go in the store.  ask for the manager.  politely i say  "hi  i'm a concealed weapon permitted gun owner.  all my friends are also legal gun owners. we will not be shopping here anymore.  you see i will not do buisiness with any one who does not support all of my Constitutional rights.  We will be happy to take our business elsewhere"  Please do this in a very polite way.  some businesses will actually take these signs down.  get your friends to go to these stores and say the same thing.  everyone please help to politely enforce our 2nd. ammendment rights.

Wow seems that you are carrying one of the largest pistols I know of. What kind of rig are you using to tote that monster around?

Josh

Josh,

I have two methods of carry:

Typically, the Pistol, Spare Magazines and Surefire light are all carried in a custom-made Milt Sparks 55BN Holster (had to ship them the pistol to have it made), a D4C Dual Magazine carrier and a special flashlight holder that no longer seems to be on their site.  These are then carried on a 1 1/2" Model 1B belt.

The second method of carry is a Galco waist bag.

This is my daily carry rig.  I carry it everywhere with me.  I own several businesses so I can carry when I'm "at work," as well.

I am a firm believer in carrying a large gun. . .and not just because I'm a big guy (6'2", 230 lbs).  Before I had the Expert, I carried one of the first generation USP45's.  My wife caught me ogling the Expert and bought it for me for our 10th Anniversary.  I started shooting it in USPSA Limited and IDPA Stock Service Pistol(with one slight modification) competitions and got to liking it so much I made it my daily carry piece.

Carrying a large gun is not for everyone, though.  You have to make a commitment to lack of convenience.  A big pistol is not difficult to conceal, as long as you modify your habits.

For example: You don't sit in openbacked chairs that are not against the wall.  If you do, you'll most likely "print" some part of the pistol.

You will have to wear a concealing garment.  In winter, this is not usually a problem.  But when the temperature hovers near 100 degrees, you still need something.  I usually wear a sweat-wicking T-shirt and a lightweight, short-sleeved shirt untucked and unbuttoned.  You must practice presenting the pistol often with this type of carry since the fabric of the covering shirt is much lighter than a vest or jacket.

But this pistol is exceedingly reliable and superbly accurate.  The longer barrel with it's polygonal rifling maxes the potential of the round's velocity.  The heavier slide with it's 3/4" added length and double recoil spring makes follow-up shots fast.  The trigger is phenomenal.

This particular pistol has about 20k rounds through it and I've only had to tweak the trigger once and replace the operating rod/recoil springs once.  It has a truly ambidextrous safety that, if done properly, doesn't require you to shift your hand to release the magazine.

The magazines are shaped at the top like a pyramid which, when combined with the almost cavernous beveled magazine well makes tactical- and speed-reloads lightning fast.

BUT, this is the same set-up I use when I compete.  Rapid close proximity shots with fantastic accuracy, even for those 50m targets set up by the most sadistic course designers are a snap.

As long as I do my part, that is.

The only real modifications to the pistol away from it's original design is the addition of Meprolight night-sights, a slight modification to the contour of the ambidextrous safety (right side reshaped drastically with the left side modified slightly (primarily to fit inside the IDPA dimensional requirements), the reshaping of the hammer (the original USP Expert has a hard-rubber spur which was "ground" down and smoothed to prevent dragging on cloth) and the screwing in of the trigger's overtravel screw).

And, of course, the addition of Robar's NP3 nickel-teflon finish on all metal parts.  This means I only have to slightly lubricate the pistol as opposing surfaces treated with NP3 need no lubrication (normally, I only lubricate the metal reinforcements on the polymer lower where the slide travels).

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Thanks Professor for the very detailed explanation.  I greatly appreciate you taking the time to explain. I think I'll be going with something lighter and a touch smaller for my daily carry once my wife and I get our ccw permits. For me it's still a toss up between a Glock 19 or a  XD subcompact. those are my choices so far but I'm sure there will be couple more pistols in the mix for me before all is said and done.  the wife is pretty settled on a snubbie revolver. So either one of the S&W shrouded one or and this looks to be what she will go with the new Ruger LCR.

Back to your carrying the HK45 I like the idea of carrying what you compete with. Seems to be a very piratical way to get lots of practice running your pistol in an accurate, effective, and fast manner.

As for carrying a full size pistol I don't think I'm cut out for but I definitely see the merits in doing so. I would like to go with 45 but to try and keep my HD pistol CZ SP-01 and CC pistol on a standardized caliber I'll probably stick to 9mm.

I carry an XD .45 compact (4" barrel) in a Crossbreed Supertuck.  I wear a plain black leather belt with a nice buckle and a nice smile.  No reason to carry a shorter barrel like a subcompact.  XD subcompact is really no benefit IMHO in concealment over the Compact.  The grip with compact mag isn't difficult to conceal and the 1" barrel difference is no impediment either.

My daily basic:

It's supplanted weather permitted by one of these rigs:

A triple mag XD .45, or HK 9mm fullsize/compact with fullsize reload shoulder rig.

. . .snip. . .

As for carrying a full size pistol I don't think I'm cut out for but I definitely see the merits in doing so. I would like to go with 45 but to try and keep my HD pistol CZ SP-01 and CC pistol on a standardized caliber I'll probably stick to 9mm.

You mentioned in your post the Glock 19 or Springfield XD.

Both are excellent pistols with my preference leaning towards the Glock, mainly because of the lower bore axis and grip angle.  Both are easy to conceal, as well.

Unfortunately, both are in 9mm. . .(oh, 9mm advocates, don't get your knickers in a twist, I'm not going to discuss the efficacy of the round. . sheez).  That means you're going to have a VERY difficult time finding ammo.  Even top-of-the-line personal defense ammo.

Once you get them, I'd recommend that you look into any local IDPA or IPSC matches.  With either pistol, you can compete in IDPA Stock Service Pistol  or USPSA Production Class with the gear you wear (you may have to add a couple of mags  for USPSA).  After a bit of training, nothing helps you find out the quirks in your pistol faster than competition.

Please keep in mind, however, that games are not training. They are just a cool venue through which to practice your skills.

Hope it helps.

The Professor.

I wouldn't let a temporary shortage of a caliber determine the weapon that i chose to purchase. Ammunition is available, it is a little pricier at the moment (9mm $26.99 for american eagle last i saw) I really don't expect this to go on as it has. Eastern Euro surplus is availabl if you don't roll your own but otherwise hang tight. I would almost choose to hold off on buying a firearm at the present time, its a seller's market out there you will most likely pay top dollar and if you wait for the demand to decrease and let dealers have some guns in the case for a while then wait for them to try and start moving product themselves, thats when you'll get a better deal.

I'm permitted and encouraged to carry at work.  I work for a "green" real estate investment company.  Daily, I have a S&W Airweight .38spl, Leatherman, cell phone and assorted other personal effects.  If I have to travel, I also have my M&P 9 stowed in the car with me.  Luckily, I don't travel much alone.  I'm getting better at having my pockets and purse stocked as well as my range bag.  In it, I have sunscreen, bandages, antisceptic spray, chapstick, extra muffs, extra safety glasses, etc.  One day I realized that I wasn't nearly as prepared at work as I was at the range.

Survival Kit Contents Check: "Dr. Strangelove" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n2Zz1m7qNw#lq-lq2-hq)

In addition to our friend Slim Pickens' gear I haven't started my EDC kit yet but you guys have given me some great ideas.  I work in a large operation with a couple of hundred other employees.  I'm not in any way paranoid but I try to maintain a situationall awareness at all times.  There's a high turn over in the workforce as a lot of folks can't handle the daily grind and quit or are "termed" on the spot.  I know where all the emergency exits are and I try to never have my back to the front entrance.  To keep from getting bored and make it through each day more than anything else, I run through scenarios in my mind as to how I would react if someone does go postal.  The office is directly below the airport glide path as well so I keep that in mind in the one in a million chance there's an air emergency.  I carry a nylon briefcase with shoulder strap on me anyway which has many unused pockets. It's perfect because everyone is used to it so it won't attract any attention if I gradually add to it.  I'm thinking of starting with a good LED flashlight, a Multi-tool, some para-chord, and pepper spray then I'll add to it bit by bit.  I don't own a firearm yet but I'm researching them.  When I do get my concealed permit, I'll leave the weapon it in the ThorMobile and not take it in the office.

- Springfield 1911 GI model with Combat Trigger mod and Kimber mag in a Galco SOB holster
- Backup Wilson Combat 8rd mag
- Leatherman Wave
- Benchmade Griptillian knife
- 2GB flash drive
- Seiko Chronograph waterproof watch with Tritium dials
- EpiPen (bad pollen allergies lol)
- Keys
- Wallet
- iPhone with Survival Podcast... :)
- Pocket Constitution

My bag that I usually have on or near me at all times:
- Bible
- Two Moleskine notebooks
- Bose headphones (for listening to the Survival Podcast)
- First Aid kit
- Couple of energy/protein bars
- 32 oz of water
- Water purification tablets
- Allergy meds
- Contact solution
- Glasses
- Used to carry an ultra portable laptop, but the mother board just fried, so am working on that replacement...

I didn't realize just how much I actually carried on me for EDC... Wow.

Pistol is a Springfield XD Subcompact in .40 calber
Holster is a CrossBread SuperTuck Delux.

SwampMonster - How do you like that combo? I've been thinking about getting that exact gun with that exact holster, especially for summer carry... Do you carry that with a tucked in dress shirt/slacks, and does it work well for that if you do?

Glock 30 (subcompact .45) or S&W 642 (snubby .38 sp) when the Glock is not concealable + Kabar TDI on the ankle always.

My daily carry includes
- Keys
- Either Glock model 30 (compact .45) or Walther P22 if size and weight are an issue
- Gerber 3 1/2 in lockback knife with combo cutting and serrated edge.
- Mini butane lighter
- iphone combo electronic device (great space saver as it combines ipod, cell fon, computer)
- Wallet
- Lip balm
- Eye drops

On a separate key ring I carry the following

- Maglite mini 1 AAA battery light
- small multi tool , will be replaced with a better one now that have proven that I will carry daily and not loose it. I hate to buy something and never use it
- P38 can opener. What the heck it weighs nothing and a clever person can use it for more than just opening antique C RATS
- mini 1 1/2 in Gerber lockback
- Fingernail clippers

I plan on adding a SAW when ammo is more affordable !! LOL

This is the same gear that I use for my every day carry. Throw in a Gerber assisted opening folder, a 3w led flashlight and a SOG microtool and it is a pretty well rounded kit. I am a huge fan of the XD 45 Compact. In addition to carrying it daily I shoot it in competition (production class) and it perfroms flawlesly.

- Normal stuff: keys, wallet, pen, watch
- Gerber Multi-Plier 400 Compact Sport
- Kobalt brand knife/box cutter combo
- enV 2 Cell phone (would be a smart phone but we've cut expenses to get debt free)
- iPod Classic 80Gb filled to within 5gb of podcasts (not much on listening to music)
- Note pad with post-it note type paper in four sizes.

Once I get my Tech license I'll either have a auto mounted ham radio or a hand held.

My everyday carry includes:

Keys- I keep them on a real carabiner (not the simulated ones) for keeping them together and the 'biner may come in handy. I think it'd make for a decent set of brass knuckles if needed.

Wallet- CCW, Drivers License, 1 credit card, some cash

Cell phone-  HTC TYTN2.  A cell, PDA, GPS, and digital camera all in one. The amazing things that it does all these things very well.

USB Drive- I keep some documents on it such as scanned birth cert, SSN, drivers license. I use a program called AxCrypt (http://www.axantum.com/AxCrypt/ (http://www.axantum.com/AxCrypt/)) to keep the documents safe should the drive be lost.  I wear this on a neck lanyard with my work ID badge.

H&K USP Compact 45 in a paddle holster.  1 extra clip.  Carried when and where I can, but not into my work.       http://www.hk-usa.com/civilian_products/hk45c_general.asp (http://www.hk-usa.com/civilian_products/hk45c_general.asp)

SOG Trident pocket knife. The only time I dont have this on me is in secure areas (airports, federal buildings, etc). I train in knife fighting and am comfortable with this item.     http://sogknives.com/store/TF-3.html (http://sogknives.com/store/TF-3.html)

Cold Steel "Sharkie" marker.    I highly recommend this.    http://www.coldsteel.com/pocketshark.html (http://www.coldsteel.com/pocketshark.html)     My jujutsu instructor got one as well and will be holding a training seminar with this item!!!  It's so innocuous that it is an ideal "improvised" weapon.

2 "zip tie" cable ties. Big enough to secure someone.  Also useful for a myriad of other things if needed.      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable_tie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable_tie)

I have a Gerber multi-tool but rarely carry it. I have access to tools in the workplace, or a small tool kit in my car.

I'm looking for a good flashlight.

Sorry for the lack of pics. I put links where I could.

On the weekends I also carry another handgun along with the KelTec. Most of the time it's an XD45Compact, but every now and then I carry a S+W "airweight", or my old S+W model 19. It depends on what I'm up to and how I'm dressed. ::)

Omigod, doncha just love the way that Model 19 shoots?!!? Every time I take someone to the range with me, they can shoot a Sig P226, Ruger LCP, S&W 642, M&P 9mm Compact and the Model 19, so I always ask.......so, what did you enjoy shooting the most? The 19 always wins, hands down. It's just a nail driver.

Looking through these posts, y'all make me ashamed I don't carry at least one, if not two, extra mags at all times with my M&P 9 Compact.

Yeah, I think I've had that old Mod19 longer than any other handgun. It's got the target grips, hammer, trigger, and adjustable sights...yadda yadda, but it's well worn. Alot of the finish is worn off. It's just a working gun.
It's a 4" 19-4. Also, had a real nice trigger job done on it back in the '80s.
She ain't no "prom queen", but it shoots fantastic.
Pitty that Smith stopped making the 19. I guess they thought they could do better?? ::)

Hey man I like the mini FAK.  Hard for me to tell what all you got there but looks like you go tall you need for light to medium severity bleeding wounds.  I like that functionality.  What is the form factor (size/weight) for this bag and how do you carry it?
Title: Re: What is your EDC...Every Day Carry
Post by: volwest on November 06, 2009, 11:06:46 AM
it's pretty small and light.
Basically, as you can see on the picture, the main bag is just a little bit bigger than the QuikClot package.

I carry my EDC in a Maxpedition versipack.
I use to carry "pocket only", but then decided to melt my EDC with my GHB by using the versipack. This allows me to carry items such as water, gloves, flashlight, 550 cord, lighter and maps for example...

Smart move on the ziplock bags. I had a buddy go out and buy a $200 first aid kit for backpacking. It became a $5 kit after it got wet. "Disappointment", would be understating his feelings over it.

I had switched to using a shatterproof peanut butter jar for my backpacking first aid kit, and has worked well. I know for EDC that solution would be cumbersome, so I think the ziplocks are a simple, logical solution.

Yeah that sucks...
I try to waterproof as much as i can, especially first aid equipment...and ziplock bags are great for that.

As for backpacking, and since i do not like bladders for many reasons, i find the nalgene bottles to be my preferred method to transport water (along with Platypus bottles) and waterproof certain items in the same way you use the peanut butter jar.

I was wondering what you guys who ccw your pistols do with them while you are at work? Do you not carry on you work days? Do you lock them in your car? This is something I've been thinking about for myself while I look into getting my wife and I our ccw permits.

I envy you folks who can concealed carry.....even though I have the permit, my employer will immediately fire you even if they only find a gun in your car in the company parking lot. That has actually happened.....they caught a thief breaking into cars in the parking lot and found he'd stole a gun from one of the cars......when he id'd the car, they fired the owner. Stinking Bastards.............Hell is gonna be a very crowded place!

I guess I'll have to hook up a pic.  I carry either a SIG P229 Elite or a SIG P239 (40) or Taurus PT22, The SIG's with 2 extra mags and a S&W SRT knife ($10 @ Big 5).  Money, the evil credit and debit cards, polymer neck knife on dog tag chain (metal detectors can't find it), a cell phone, keys with cuff key and light.

If you haven't heard of it the Fobus is the most comfortable all day carry holster I have worn in my 12 years of full time carry.  $20 you can't go wrong.

Almost forgot, those belly/fanny bags scream "GUN".  If you don't want people to know your carrying a weapon then don't wear those.   They also scream "COP", so be careful.

Heh, that's what I wear.  You'd think people would notice, but I've never had anyone comment or point or act uncomfortable.  I think it's because I look like a 53-year-old nerd, and the waist pack just fits the whole nerd fashion idiom so well.  ;D

Videos of My EDC

Hey SurvivalKing, I wanted to say, great job on your every-day-carry videos!  +1 from me.  Seriously, well done!

Concerning your mini FAK, I have two suggestions.  Include in it at least one pair of latex gloves and a mini CPR mask.  I would recommend these two items above just about everything else, because in my experience, for life and death situations (the situations that really matter the most), they are the two things which you will most likely want to have on-hand,,,  that can’t be improvised, and that must be ready in a second’s notice.  (The EPI-pen is another a great idea,,, I have been thinking of trying to pick up one of these myself)

Concerning latex gloves, there is a laundry list of reasons why to have these – primarily for your own survival (who knows who you might need to assist), and secondarily when you put them on it projects an air of readiness on your part that can have a calming effect, and can make people more ready to do what you tell them to.

Having had to perform CPR on a few people or so, I can say with utter conviction that it really sucks to do CPR on someone after they vomit.  2 out of the last 4 people I can remember doing CPR on threw up on me, and 1 of the 2 that didn’t couldn’t because his rib cage was crushed,,, and in this case, I am really glad that I had gloves and a mask on-hand, because the poor guy was a bloody mess (he also happened to be the only 1 of the 4 that sadly didn’t survive).

I hope this helps,

great vid gigaJack, I took a look at your site and it is full of some good info.

I have thought about the 5.11 tactical pants, are they cotton or are they something that could dry fast (i.e. nylon type fabric)?

The Taclite Pro Pants are 65% polyester and 35% poly cotton ripstop but the Tactical Pants are all cotton. I started buying just their regular tactical pants until the Taclite Pro came out. Now I just by the Taclite Pro Pant.

The Taclite Pro Pant beads liquid and can be wiped if done quickly but they will absorb liquid if kept wet.

Hey man thanks!  I am going to film an addendum to that video sometime this week on my shiny new camera!  Got the FAK, really excited to show it off!  Has the CPR mask, the gloves, a range of life saving medication, 2 kelrix rolls and a pack of celox.  Sits pretty in my right hand pocket, moving my wallet, iphone, and keys to my back pockets.

One is always with me, the other is always near.  I tend to carry the USP when carrying openly, and the P2000 when going for concealed.   In either case, there's always a spare mag, a Surefire E2D LED Defender, and a Leatherman Skeletool CX as well, in addition to the typical stuff like Blackberry, keys, wallet, etc.

Outside of the survival world, but still with me virtually everywhere I go:

I teach in a prison so at work I carry my wallet with nothing interesting.  Most days I have a pen in my pocket too.  If I am not working all I add is a pocket knife, lighter, and smokes.  Wisconsin has no ccw.  I can't even keep much in the car since it is not allowed on grounds.

I really have two different EDC's

My M-F 8-5 EDC is stripped down to allow me to look more business than tactical.
It consists of
Good solid leather belt
Stainless Multifunction Watch w/ Silcone band
Mirrored Lens Sunglasses
Leatherman Tool (Varies day to day which model I carry. I own 7 of them)
Two lighters and a book of matches
Hand Sanitizer
Cell Phone
Battery Operated Cell Phone Charger
Spring Operated Knife (legal in FL to CWP holders)
Smart Carry Invisible Holster
Glock 19 w/ Crimson Trace Laser Grips
17 Round Magazine in addition to the 15+1 in the pistol
Fenix LD-20 Tactical Light
Wallet Contents  - Concealed License, NRA Membership Card, USCCA Membership Card, AAA Membership Card + AAA Bail Bond Card, Two post self defensive shooting instructional cards, Spare car key and razor blade. Of course there is cash, Visa Check cards and a silver bar in the wallet as well.[/size]

My Off the Clock EDC is everything above PLUS
Sabre 5.0 (Law Enforcement Size/Strength) OC Stream
Beretta 3032 Tomcat w/ Spare mag
Additional 17 Round Mag for the Glock 19
Fenix TK-12 Tactical Light mounted in a slightly modified Blackhawk Night-Ops Speed Holster
(http://lh4.ggpht.com/_lpvgLckw1Zw/TGcOudbr2oI/AAAAAAAAnNA/pPS5ry2YTlc/s800/IMG_1087.JPG)
The girl I'm casually seeing right now thinks that I'm insane to carry all this stuff with me everywhere I go. She really gets annoyed when we have to wait for a table in a restaurant instead of sitting at the bar because I'm carrying two pistols with me. (State law in FL)
Anyone have any suggestions on what I can lose/add to my EDC package?

So I guess that if I wear mine that is hot pink with a neon green POLICE patch on the front and have my tac vest on with Federal Agent on the back when I go to get my coffee and doughnuts from Dunkin Doughnuts that might be a tip off that I have some sort of weapon on my person?

One of the things I do whenever I get a new pair of shoes/boots/sneakers/whatever is to replace the laces with paracord.
It's a great way to add a little paracord to your EDC just in case.  Besides having more utility than regular laces, the stuff actually ties better (even when wet) and lasts longer.
Just my 2 cents worth....

And they stay tied much better. I had boot laces that were horrible at staying tied until I replaced them with paracord, more out of necessity than some kind of prep thing.
Now they stay tied and i have a little paracord.

Glock 26 with crimson trace in a bianchi carry lock II holster, and/or Ruger LCP with crimson trace also. In the wallet 2 band-aids, 2 bobby pins, a razor blade, a SS 7 in 1 credit card multi tool and the normal ID and a little cash. Right from pocket... Kershaw Ken Onion assisted opener, my keys with a little tiny 1 inch long "streamlight" flash light. I also made my own keychain out of 4 ft. of para-cord and some beads. First I tied a monkey fist knot slid on a stack of beads, tied a loop and another stack of beads and tied it off down by the monkey fist. Now it acts as a keychain, ranger beads, or 4 ft. of paracord. Fisher space pen in the left front pocket and a SS Cross pen in the lapel pocket.
I consider my EDC my..... get to the car gear. In the car I have my Get home Gear.
I wear a suit or slacks with a shirt and tie and no one has a clue to the level of prepairedness on my person

Below picture is the “I’m dreaming” part since I live in Australia at this time.
I could go on about all the political stuff all I will say this, fight every possible attempt to
take your guns, don't make the same mistake as us Australians & let the politicians convince the
people to give up their rights to their guns.

This would be the additions to the ACTUAL CARRY All on Body picture.
BK9 Knife would swap out to a BK2 if/or when I could. (Carry of fixed blade knives are prohibited here)
Glock 17A would swap out to a Glock 26 with 17A barrel to make legal here if/or when I could. (Semi auto handguns must have a 120 mm / 4.72 inch aprox barrel for civilian ownership here)
Two 10 round Magazines (10 round Magazines are the maximum size for civilians here)

hey, what gives on the american flag with swastikas as stars?

Its the classic American science fiction novel The Man in the High Castle. Its set in an alternate history where Japan and Germany won the second world war. It was written in the early 60's so its been about for a while and is one of the best pieces of American literature.

Interesting.  I'll have to pick it up.  What sort of HT is that up on the right?  And what's the square LCD screen thingy (or is it something else?) just above and to the right of the camera?

The HT is a modified Yaesu VX-6 with a Comet SMA-701 multiband antenna. The LCD thingy is indeed a NAV unit. Its from TomTom, its used with my car but I also have the amateur radio points of intrest installed, so wherever I am I can look up the 2m/70cm as well as the 4m repeaters.

ACTUAL CARRY

. . .Snip. . .

Ok, I just have to ask. . .why would you swap to the smaller frame with the longer barrel?  Why not stick with the Model 17?  I really can't see any benefit over the 26 if you have a decent holster for concealment (as a comparison, I carry an H&K USP Expert (significantly larger than a G17) every day, but I use a Milt Sparks concealment holster).

The Professor

Greetings Professor,

The reasons for the smaller frame with the longer barrel is for the legal requirements here in Australia. I do plan to purchase a G26 & swap out the barrel for a 120mm barrel (G17A barrel) to own & train with a smaller framed handgun. There is no glimpse of a possible positive change of attitude of any future Australian government towards firearms. So this forces me towards this option. There is also no reasonable way as a citizen to have open or concealed carry here. If my dream came true & the Australian government changed the law to allow small framed handguns with short barrels, & allowed concealed carry, my name would be on the application list for license & training A.S.A.P. & the G26 would not require modification. I can not claim any practical experience for concealed carry, my knowledge is the "Office Chair in front of the computer display". My research has lead me to lean towards smaller lighter in everything I carry with testing & consideration given towards weight to firepower ratio (Thanks Nutinfancy).

I googled the H&K USP Expert you carry, nice looking gun, they are available here for $2,385.00 retail.

Hope my answer gives you the information you wanted.

Regards

PB.

So here is my actual EDC carry, and yes, I do carry all of this, I am no nutnfancy (I figure, if I ever get into a situation where weight is actually an issue, I can just throw away what I don't need.. I have many duplicates of everything so even though it would be a loss, it would not be that bad)

-Keltec PF9 loaded with Gold Dot JHP's, one extra magazine, with Viridian C5L green laser/light combo
-Cold Steel Recon 1 rebladed with the CQC-8 Dao shape, done by Mr. Demko himself, and in CPM 154
-Al Mar Sere 2000, one of the best knives I have ever used (VG10)
-Benchmade Mini-Pika II, just to be a beater
-4sevens Maelstrom X7, at 480 lumens (OTF) this thing is a monster
-Fenix LD15, backup light, 100+ lumens on a single AAA!
-Two backup AAA's
-Two backup RCR123A's by Tenergy
-Hanky
-Bandana
-ordinary bic lighter
-40 ft of 550 cord
-widgy bar
-Stun Gun
-Cold Steel Inferno Pen pepper spray
-DMT sharpening stones (extra course, fine, extra extra fine)

Now some closeups:

Keltec PF9, awesome flat little 9 mm, I don't even realize it is there. I didn't know if I was going to like the Viridian C5L, but it is an excellent product, and I highly recommend it.. it allows me to identify my target really quickly, and shoot very accurately from the hip

Demko rebladed Recon 1, I love the CQC8 blade shape

Cold Steel Inferno Pen unit, I keep the grip tape on it so that by touch, I can know which direction the nozzle is pointing

4sevens X7, excellent light, but I made a few mods... First I added a glow in the dark button so I can find it easily in the dark. Next, I put a layer of velcro on the flashlight, and then I have a round plastic piece (a part of a tumi syringe) that I cut out, put the other velcro piece on the inside of that, and put skateboard griptape around it (for traction). This was done to give it a "candlestand" ability

Maybe someday. What's funny is there are loopholes in the law that let you carry.

Your weapon must be in a container (hard shell, nylon with zippers, etc.) that is specifically made to hold the weapon. It must be unloaded. You can then carry this inside another bag. As a result, people have started making back packs and such that have a pouch to hold the gun and a couple mags. While not ideal, what this means is that you can technically legally carry concealed without any sort of permit aside from the state firearm owners ID. Just a matter of pulling the gun out and sliding a magazine in.

Might have to try this someday.

Demko rebladed Recon 1 interesting.

I have and old Recon 1 in one of my tool kits....Is there not like a one year wait on a Demko knife?

Looking to add a good multi-tool to replace my Swiss army knife.  It's a good knife, better than some of the cheaper Gerber promo multi tools that the Swiss army knife replaced.  I do have a bunch of multi-tools at work, car, tool bags, back back, etc.  But it's not an EDC if I don't carry it... :)

Just to expedite the answering of your question that pistol would be a Sig P380.  Nice guns that are supposed to emulate the controls of a 1911 in a small caliber and size.

An updated Copy of my EDC (All this is on me except the Pistol while at work as we are not allowed).

TSP Challenge Coin (Cuz I am always in the mood for a free cup of coffee ;) )
Ruger P85, 15 +1 (Sometimes I carry a spare mag but most of the time its just the 15 shots, I figure if I can't stop a threat with 15 shots of +p 124 G JHP's, then I'm doing something wrong LOL)
Ink pen that is always on my shirt, (I have a duplicate inside the black notebook case).
Black notebook case contains a couple zip-lock bags, and a write-in-the-rain notebook and a spare $20 (or sometimes $50 if I have the extra).
Pepper spray (For work, since I can't carry at work).
On the pepper spray is a loose wrapped 15 or so feet of paracord that acts as a drawstring to get the pepper spray out of my pocket, as well as just extra for when needed.
Leatherman Charge ALX in the heavy duty leather sheath (The Leather sheath is a MUST)
A CRKT M21-14SFG Folding knife.  TOUGH great EDC Knife.  I use the hell out of this thing.
Wallet
Casio SGW-100B Watch
HTC Touch Pro 2 Smart phone (With more apps than I can even begin to name LOL)
carabiner clip water bottle holder (this is on the keychain but goes on my belt when I carry a water bottle
Pelican 2360 Flashlight.  A cheaper alternative to the expensive tactical's that is bright enough yet cheap enough to not worry about.  2 - AA batteries.
Key-chain contains a Scout Firesteel (Unbelievably good fire starter THANKS KIMBERTAC for the gift).
Also on the key-chain is a TSP SAK Trecker (non serrated)  (Another great knife/tool)
3 small carabiner clips because they are just so handy
30 foot of paracord in a beavertail
Childs indestructible liquid filled compass (gift from a very special group of 4 to 6 year old's so I carry it on me always to find my way home)

Okay here are my EDC items... This all fits in my bag (with a laptop, notebook, lunch and 1-3 books amongst other things; I've got the packing down pat at this point :) The preps weighs about 7-8lbs, but I walk to work everyday and am so used to carrying it everywhere that it really doesn't lead to any fatigue or irritation.

Maxpedition gearslinger bag:

2 small molle velcro pouches hold all my edc stuff:

Smaller pouch is first aid:

2x breath of life emergency masks
various gauze / tape / dressings
quikclot trauma dressing
quikclot 1st response dressing
sutures
alcohol sanitizer
tincture of iodine (good for wounds and water treatment)
superglue (poor man's stitches - this has saved me hundreds on stupid ER visits :)
tweezers / scissors / razors / etc
ibuprofen / percocet / anti-diahreal / anti-histamine / aspirin
1x box extra contacts / eye cleansers

Larger pouch is general utility:
granola bars & instant coffee
plastic bags
hunting/fishing license
AA/AAA batteries
2x lighters
4x matches
2x firestarters

100ft paracord
1x pair dress shoe laces
1x pair boot laces
1x extra mag + 8x extra .380 rounds
mini blade sharpener
smith&wesson tactical LED flashlight
sewing kit
min roll duct tape
10x monocle
leatherman multi-tool
smith & wesson swat auto-opener knife
corkscrew + bottle opener
mophie powerpack for laptop / iphone / usb devices
various peripheral cords

and of course, the EDC items that I keep on my body everyday:
gerber xenon light + larue armadillo opener on keychain
benchmade ruckus knife
ruger LCP .380
homemade paracord bracelet
bic lighter (they last forever!)
iPhone 4
berts bees (good for chap lips and a variety of other random topical uses)

and the most important carry-along - the macallan 18 ;)

When sprawled out it sure looks like a lot, but it's been added over time and after a few instances where this stuff really came in handy and I've learned to value it highly. Enjoy!  8)

Why the dog whistle? Is there a secondary purpose for it? or do you use as intended for training dogs.

Every day, where-ever I go, whatever I do, this stuff is always on me

Pistol is an NP3'd HK USP45 Expert w/ 2 spare NP3'd mags
Flashlight is a Surefire CombatLight (pre-Z2 designation) w/ 120 Lumen incandescent lamp and shock-resistant bezel
Leatherman Wave
Custom Emerson Folder
Basic Zippo
Crackberry w/ Bluetooth Jawbone

The Professor

Well, I recently looked back upon this thread and realized that I'd made a couple of changes in the past two years.

Here is my current daily carry:

Not much has changed:

H&K USP 45 Expert
2 Mags
Zippo
Custom Emerson Folder

I have changed my Daily flashlight, though.  I recently switched to the FirstLight Tomahawk after having a few excellent opportunities to beat the heck out of it and use it under some very trying conditions.  It fits into my regular light-carrying holsters, so there was really no major changes to anything else.

You'll also notice that my Leatherman Wave is missing and I'm now carrying a Spyderco Endura. I haven't been using the Wave, very much, so it's been relegated to my man-purse (a Maxpedition Jumbo S-type Versipack).  The Endura now rides clipped to my off-hand pocket and is a dedicated "defensive knife" (i.e., it doesn't get used to cut open boxes, etc.).

One thing I've gone to recently is carrying a different pistol for more formal, dressy-type functions.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with my USP.  I consider it quite handsome.  But, sometimes, you just want to have something with a little more "Cool" factor.  Certain people, if they see it, will understand.   You young'uns probably wouldn't get the reference, or the "coolness" of this pistol.  For me, it's right up there, just above the Devel and the ASP.

Detonics Combat Master .45 ACP
2 Wilson P47 mags
Surefire Z2 LED Flashlight
Emerson Custom Folder
Gerber EDK
Custom Neck-knife (dedicated "defensive" knife).

And for those who are curious, the Detonics has a custom-made Alessi, Bruce-Nelson-inspired, hip holster and mag case.  The wife absolutely refuses to be seen with me in my (original) Milt Sparks Six-Pack (and yes, I have it's sequentially-numbered matching brother along with a custom-made double-Allessi Shoulder Rig).  It is an original Detonics (Seattle, WA), not a New Detonics, "Ahern" Detonics or Detonics Defense.

Sometimes, you just gotta put on the bling.

The Professor

(Oh, and yes, I still do carry a cellphone, in my case it's a Samsung Infuse in a Ballistic-brand Hardcase w/ rubber protector. It's not in the photos because it takes better pictures than my older digital camera.)

Oh, and FWIW, I'll carry this to gunshows and to Prep Expos. . .just for the awesome esoteric reference purpose.

For the iphone the otter box works well for protecting impacts. Mine fell out a second story window onto a concrete driveway a year ago and its still working fine. Don't let the "otter" part fool ya though cause its not a great waterproofer.

This is my EDC Chain, it's basically a wallet chain with the stuff i use everyday,  I have a mini pocket screwdriver, a bic lighter, A mini LED flashlight, and a bottle opener.  On the leather strap i had a can of pepperspray that hung at belt level on a quick release, however it popped off and i lost it,  The rest of my EDC not pictured is my I-phone (Used it to take the picture)  and i forgot to snap a pic of my small Ozark Trail pocket knife i picked up at walmart on the cheap,  If anyones got any ideas on how to better secure pepperspray so it can hang at my belt level, but still pull off quick while being secure LMK im open to Ideas.

I have a 6 inch paracord pull string tied to my pepper spray, it is in my pocket with the cord hanging out.  I just tug on the cord and it comes out in my hand.  I have 2 pair of jeans that have the "Painters" pocket on the thigh for paint brushes, the bottle sits in one and the paracord pull tucks into the lower one so its handy without dangling.  Works great.

Here's my current EDC.  I'd add a handgun is there was any way that I could get a carry permit.

Left front pocket:
Money clip/wallet
Leatherman Freestyle (below wallet)

Right rear pocket
Memo Mate notepad (the green aluminum thing with the pen)

Left rear pocket
cell phone (Tracfone LG800g)

Right front pocket
Gerber Ripstop I
Keyring (green capsule contains spare cash)

The pouch (in coat pocket or cargo pants pocket)
Maxpedition Micro pocket organizer
Left side
Rite in the rain notepad
Burt's Bees lip balm
Leatherman Style CS
Fisher Space Pen ST
Emergency whistle

Right side
Bic lighter
Tech Tool LED flashlight/fire steel
Ziploc baggie with bandaids, alcohol wipes, Neosporin, dental floss

Still to add:
Better single AA or AAA flashlight
OTC medications

dollarbill, how do you like that Gerber Dime?  I thought about that when I got the Leatherman Style, but I wanted the spring loaded scissors on the Leatherman.

That's a hell of a kit, fritz!  If I could get away with cargos at work I might try to be similarly set up, but dress slacks look pretty odd with overstuffed pockets.

A couple lights worth putting on your list to check out are the Sunwayman V10A (http://www.sunwayman.com/html/products/201103/48.html) and V20A.  The V10A is their single AA version and the V20A is their double AA version.  I've owned many lights in my day and finally settled on the V10R, which uses one CR123 (or RCR123).  The features that stand out to me is:
Physical protection to reverse polarity (if you put the battery in backwards it doesn't work vs. burning out the circuit)
Infinite variability from zero to max light with a dial adjust
Forward clicky on switch, so you can use the momentary on feature for tactical situations
Reversible clip that actually stays on (at tail cap to keep it high in your pocket or reversed so it can be clipped onto your hat brim as a headlamp (a feature I'm absolutely thrilled with))
Can be stood on its tail for room illumination
Incredible battery life in lower settings (up to 40 hours on a single AA battery, up to 100 hours with a 2 AA batteries)
Can be used with a variety of batteries including rechargeables and lithium

Just one that's worth a look.

If you want itty-bitty, consider the Fenix LD01.  It's a twist on, but has a low, mid and high beam you can cycle through.  Despite using only a single AAA battery, the lowest setting allows up to a 27 hour battery life (if you get the 72 lumen model.  The 85 lumen model only has an 11 hour battery life on the lowest setting).  It also has a great reversible clip that holds it on the brim of your hat.

Just a few to think about.

Thanks, Endurance.  I'll take a look at that Sunwayman, I just have issues paying over $50 for a single AA flashlight.  I have been looking at the Fenix lights, especially the 72 lumen model.

Honestly, so do I.  I caught mine on a clearance as the new v10r has 210 lumens and they were selling the old 190 lumens for $50.

For most everyday stuff I don't care about a momentary on, but when I carry a gun I prefer it.  Since I cant carry at work, it's nice to have a smaller option that doesn't take up so much pocket realestate.

I just added a Letherman Juice - s2 to my back back kit.  Of course it's an orange juice s2.
Basic small kit is a few flashlights, cordage, compass, cell phone, knife of some sort with a first aide kit in the car that's easy to include in my back pack.

I don't often have to carry much on me; the distance between work and home is about 1.3 miles and I carry two sets of clothing in the SUV just encase.

Thanks for all the great ideas y'all.  Once I get mine dialed in, I'll contribute my own kit.  It'll end up looking like too much, but I live urban and carry a sizable backpack with me everywhere I go, so it all fits.

If anyone read my first post of my edc awhile back you know that it was waaaay overboard.  Now that I have learned a few things and focused on what's really important to me I'm much better off.  I took much of what I was calling edc gear and added it to my vehicle ghb.

I drive to numerous retail stores each day for work and my vehicle is never more than 500 yds away. Some of what is below is needed for business purposes only so when i am off my kit lightens up a bit. I decided to take advantage of my laptop bag so I have a larger edc than most.. .anyway here it goes.

Black leather ID holder for work ID.

Mini composition notebook.
Sharpie and sharpie pen.
Energizer pen light.
Samsung Convoy flip phone -personal.
Springfield XD 9mm subcompact and extra mag.
Burt's Bees.
Pepper spray.
Tactical OD green sanitizer gel lol.
Gerber Crucial multi tool.
Gerber knife.
Luminox watch.
Black leather belt.
Pouch with various wires, chargers and earphones.
Vacuum sealed gunshot/trauma kit with quikclot.
Vacuum sealed treats cause i skip lunch.
Black leather UnderArmor gloves.
Bills,stamps, envelopes and checkbook.
Lenovo laptop and charger.
Paracord bracelet.
Iphone 4s-work.
Case for Asus tablet.
Mini first aid kit.
Maxpedition wallet.

.
Not pictured Asus tablet, mini maglite led.

This kit works perfectly for me and goes everywhere I go. The bag has three pouches which can add extra room. I vacuum sealed some of the items to keep the thinkness down.

I'l play. Most days this is it.

Kimber Raptor .45  / Cross breed super tuck and whatever mag is in rotation, either a CMC or Wilson.

Benchmade Barrage

Klarus ST-11 900lm

Leatherman MUT.

Aside from cash and ID, that's about it. The leatherman usually rides in the truck, and comes out when I think there may be a use for it, as does the light. The Kimber and knife are constant companions.

I noticed that except for a couple on page 1, NOBODY has a revolver as part of their EDC.

Why is that?

I would think that a revolver would make a better EDC as they are easier to keep cleaned.

for me at least, capacity was my choice. i don't own any wheelguns yet... i emphasize 'yet'

When will anyone need to get more than 5-6 shots off in an EDC situation?

Personally, I think revolvers look better.
I think they are easier to maintain.
I think they feel right in my hand, while a pistol doesn't feel right in my hand.

Like I said, this is all my personal opinion, so it may be inconsequential to you.

i'd rather have more bullets than i need than not have enough. personally i think revolvers are ok looking, but some pistols (like mine) are sexy.

i've never maintained a revolver but my pistol is pretty easy to keep up, IMO. and i like how much more my grip feels on a pistol since i can get my off hand just about completely on the frame.

I agree with the lack of ammunition being the main reason why a revolver is not my primary carry gun (which is an XDM .45), but I do have a small 5 shot .32 revolver that I carry in a pocket holster if I cannot conceal my XMD.  My dad carried the .32 for years, and it was one of the first guns I ever owned...

Statistically speaking, the FBI statistics on 1 on 1 self defense shooting average 4 to 5 rounds.  That's an average, so half those situations had more than 5 rounds fired.  (Of course, this is also averaging the non trained shooter as well as the highly trained shooter and I would consider most on this site to be higher trained than the average).  Now throw in the 2 on 1 or more (Gang or robbery situations) and those limited rounds become a much higher liability.   Maintaining my XD is not any more difficult than maintaining a wheel gun (I do like wheelguns, kind of a sexy yesteryear look), but modern firearms like the glock or XD are no more prone to failure than a revolver.  Also, the profile of some semi's is flatter than that of most but hte smallest wheel guns.  This can make concealment or comfort a tad bit easier.  In the end, either will work fine, and the benefits of the semi seem to outweigh that of a revolver by a small margin.  Either works though.

Whoops, My mistake, The average shots fired by both parties is 4 to 5, individually it was 3.   However, again this is an average, there are times when 6, 10 or 15 rounds may not be enough, and given the potential of 2 on 1 or more attackers, as long as I'm carrying anyway, I might as well carry enough to cover all the bases.  (Also I don't normally carry reloads, so more in the mag is better in my situation).  I would be more apt to carry smaller capacity sidearms if I carried reloads.  But I consider it faster to have 13 rounds available, than 5 rounds and 2 reloads of 5 rounds.   Just my opinion though.

Does that data include the events where a gun is drawn but never fired?
How many self defense cases are stopped with the defender draws a gun?

while i see your point, since the discussion seems to be revolving (what a pun!) about capacity, if a drawn gun defuses the situation then it doesn't matter if it was a pistol, wheelgun, or cap gun.

This data only includes the times when firearms are fired.  I'd be perfectly happy to stop an event without having to fire a shot, but I'm too much of a realist and understand that things happen and that may not be the case.  If only 1 in 100 shooters required more than 5 bullets, I'd still carry something with more simply because you never know if you may be that 1 or one of the 99 others.  Better safe than sorry.

Glock 22 or 27 with a 22 round mag in weak side pocket (Ruger LCP w/ extra mag when even the 27 is too big).
iPhone 5 in Olive Drab Green Lifeproof case (the flashlight app has replaced the light that had been on my key chain).
Old Timer "Middle Man" three blade, the knife I actually use.
Benchmade folder I've had for about 18 years I don't know the model name.
I keep a few $100 bills tucked away in my wallet, just in case cards aren't working.

I like revolvers but hat the swell of the cylinder more than their lack of capacity.

Don't have a picture of my whole current EDC right now, though here's my recent carry gun (G27) with Cold Steel Recon1 (old Jap. made series). The knife is my general-purpose blade, while I always carry a "dedicated" defensive/combat knife on me as well. That one varies, depending on where I am, what am I wearing (pocket size) and what level of danger I expect. Usually it's CS RajahII or Spartan, as well as Black Talon. My usual fixed knife, when I carry one, is either CS Recon Socut or Kizlyar Irtysh. But I don't carry those too often in the city.

But you've seen guns and knives here many times. Wanted to show you this - here's a little something I carry on me (among other stuff) - my survival capsule. It's a survival/EDC kit, stripped down to essentials (IMO). All fits into a delrin capsule, watertight and very durable.
Contains essential handy items: matches, safety pin, scalpel blade, micro lightstick (fishing bait), needle with a length of saddler thread. Also has about 1m of thin nylon cord on the capsule, plus a small yet durable stainless clip. As you can see, this may not be an ultimate kit for the end of civilization. It's optimized for rahter regular, yet important needs - get some emergency light (that tiny lightstick is surprisingly bright once your eyes adapt to darkness a bit), the needle+thread and safety pin can be used to quick gear repairs (clothes, bag, shoes...). Scalpel and matches need no explanations I guess...

I used to carry several types and sizes of survival kits, until I finally recognized I only really need these couple small items. Sure, if I lived elsewhere, I might have added couple water purification pills and such...
And yes, I do have larger kits with much more stuff, but I only carry them outdoors. This is my true EDC.
This capsule is in my pant pocket (clipped to a belt loop) everywhere I go, along with the G27 (that one is not in pocket though), spare mag, two knives and a tiny flashlight (Leatherman Monarch AAA).

I like the capsule idea Knecht.  Nice and compact.  But, still keeps the essentials.
Is it anything special?  Or just a black pill capsule?

It's a watertight and durable capsule, sold by ContyComm. I had some alluminum capsules before, but they were either too small (really just pill size) or too large. This one is perfect.

I haven't found anything like this on the forum and well I'm surprised, I mean you might use you're EDC kit every day but your BOB maby once in your Life or so.

Well my EDC (witch I love, it's so practical) contains
1 waterproof notebook
1 pencil
1 waterproofed paper with the morse code on it
a couple of cable ties (?? maby the wrong Word)
1 firesteel
wire
some safety pins and fishing hooks
some fishing line
some electrical tape
a piece of soap
a multi tool
some wet wipes
a sanitary napkin and some tampons (for tinder and... you know)
some sterile compresses and wound swabs

and in my Medical EDC
some pain meds (both normal ones and prescription ones)
allergy medicine
more sterile compresses and wound swabs
adhesive bandages
steri strips
and tape

outside my EDC kit I also carry extra clothes and a lighter

In my pockets I carry keys with a CPR mask and a caraibiner, my wallet, two handkerchiefs, my Streamlight stylus pro, my Buck Vantage and Spyderco Tenacious pocket knifes.

I carry my man bag everywhere, a Runner from gorunner.com, in it I carry a water bottle, store cards ie Costco, lip balm, tweasers, a pen and mechanical pencil, lighter and fire starter, 1.00 in quarters for a pay phone, extra batteries for the Streamlight, another hankie, duct tape wrapped around an old gift card, my Classic Leatherman, and a 5.11 A2 flashlight from my police days.

I usually have on my watch a Casio Wave Captor, my wedding ring and a paracord bracelet.

Well until I escape Maryland...  my on-person EDC is:

wallet
cell phone
keys
Gerber folder
Energizer 1W led pocket flashlight

I also carry a GHB when out.  Stays in the vehicle except when I'm at work then it goes with me.

When outside of MD I add either a Ruger LCR 38 plus a speed strip or a Springfield XDS .45 with a spare 7rd mag.

just a cheap flashlight

Wallet, keys(w/resQme, whistle, squeeze light),
Samsung note 3, kershaw cryo 2, pen, nebo redline flashlight,
Chapstick, mini bic, and a gerber dime.

When I'm not at work I also carry a glock 19 in a black mamba or
A ruger lcp in a pocket holster.

S&W tactical pen (not sure what model)
cash in a moneyclip
no credit cards
id

And yes, after browsing this thread, I think I'm going to make some additions.

My newest additions are small bits of plastic.  My firefighter ID gets me free use of the light rail and I bought a B-cycle pass (https://denver.bcycle.com/) so I have access to the bikes for local transportation.  Sure, in a real TEOTWAWKI that might not save my bacon, but I can ride from my work to the light rail and ride the light rail to my wife's work, which sure makes things convenient for getting my car serviced, parking for concerts (she can ride downtown and meet me, too), and get home in case my car is having problems.

My EDC changes depending on what time of year it is and whether at work or not. Basically the only thing that changes is the weapon of choice.
Fall/Winter/Spring/Not at work is a G23. Summer is a a KelTec P3AT with CT laser and an extended mag
Either weapon carried IWB in a N82 tuckable holster
Any time not carrying the G23 i carry the KelTec with a regular mag in the back pocket under my primary weapon with an extra mag beside the boot knife.
Extra mag carried in the right watch pocket
Surefire PX2 flashlight
Wallet with 2 cards that have little money in the accounts and less than $20 cash in pocket opposite weapon
Money clip with knife blade built in and cash and prepaid Visa card in front pocket
Benchmade 154CM as my utility knife in right front pocket
Benchmade 9051 as my tactical response knife in the pocket under my weapon
S&W boot knife carried inside leg of off hand (not sure the model but double edged)
Gerber Muti-Plier Det Black Sheath with an Telura Deluxe lighter in the case
Watch G-Shock (not sure the model but its analog)
Keys nothing special just a P-38 on it and braided paracord 4" lanyard
S&W Tactical pen
Samsung Galaxy S5 in an Otter box on a belt clip, off hand side (work pays for that)
LG neck bluetooth

Put a lot of thought into this EDC, I'd love you guys feed back on improvements and why.

Man sure would be nice to be able to have job that you could carry at work other than working in a gun store or being a LEO.

Homeshow are you permitted carry at work or .....??

I'm not which is why I carry the way I do. In NC LEGALLY I'm allowed to carry at work but because of my out dated work handbook it says I can't. The next step is informing the boss of new laws. My next step is just informing my boss of the 2011 "new" laws.

Excluding any type of pack, here's what I keep on my person:

- Wallet: ID, carry permit, insurance cards, AAA card, credit & debit, business cards, spare check, ~40$ cash
- Key chain: truck key, fiance's big freakin' car key and fob, house key, various other keys, 8GB USB, P38 wrapped with rubber band (recent addition).
- iPhone 5: I don't go crazy with apps, but there are some really useful ones. Even just having access to the internet pretty much everywhere has incredible utility
- Knife: I like to say, 'any man worth his salt carries a knife.' I carry a Gerber Paraframe I 1/2 serrated. 3.5" blade with thumb peg for one-handed opening. Carved out handle makes it unnoticeably light
- Watch: Nothing fancy, just a Timex Expedition. Waterproof and glows in the dark.
- Pepper spray: Sabre Red. Runner strap makes grabbing it in the correct orientation very easy.
- Flashlight: Old one crapped out. Debating the MAGlight Solitaire LED vs Fenix E01 vs new Fenix E05. Any recommendations?
- Handkerchief: Like a knife, you'll never realize how useful one is until you carry it.
- Pen & mechanical pencil: Come to think of it, I should probably add a very small notebook, or a couple scraps of paper in my wallet...
- Solid footwear: I never leave the house in sandals. At minimum, something I can run in. Generally Chippewa boots with paracord laces.
- Leather belt: Keeps my pants at a respectable altitude, and I figure a length of leather could come in handy in a pinch
- Baseball cap: Sort of like the knife and handkerchief, I find many uses beyond keeping the sun off my face

Put a lot of thought into this EDC, I'd love you guys feed back on improvements and why.
jhull87 - I'm curious how you decide what to include in your EDC. You seem to carry a lot of things, including multiple knives. For me, something really has to 'earn' its way into my EDC by providing a near-daily utility. The exception is the pepper spray, for obvious reasons. Many people on this forum seem to have an EDC very much like yours, and I'm not knocking your choices in any way, but we've both thought about the minimum set of things we'd like with us and have come to different conclusions.

my Fenix E01 died after a year. the spring became too compressed. Tech support suggested cleaning then stretching the spring. The spring was a pain in the butt to get back in after stretching it and it only worked for a few months after that.

Thanks for the nod.

If I were looking for the most bang in the smallest, most reliable format I'd have to go with the FourSevens 123 mini (http://www.amazon.com/FOURSEVENS-Black-Finish-1XCR123A-Lumens/dp/B00915B72A)

So small you don't even notice it's there in your pocket, but super bright when you need it but capable of dimming for long battery life over 100 hours.

I'm not a fan of the AAA battery because of its low output and short life.  None the less, some people insist on it because it's cheap.  My experience is limited with the Fenix and whiles the LD01 I had served its purpose as a clip on head lamp, the 70-85 lumens that the AAA lights put out pales in comparison to any CR123 light.  I can get good CR123s online. For $1each, and since they'll outlast 4-5 AAA batteries for the same output, the 123 is the better value in the end.

Where are you getting those prices? The best I've ever seen is ~$3 per battery, which is why I've shied away from them for a flashlight form factor. A rechargeable AA seems to make more sense given my uses and the price point of batteries. Especially because the light you linked says not to use rechargeable 123s (is that legit or marketing?).

I carry a Gerber religiously and a zippo. From there it becomes hit and miss, I do better in the winter since I have more pockets with jackets, it is hard to try and stuff everything into shorts pockets. I wear a vest if it is not too hot. In that i carry a pocket knife, bandanna, small Prince Tec flashlight.

I have found batteries for 1 - 2 dollars for cr123's.
http://search.batteryjunction.com/mod_search/index.php?query=cr123&catalog=theshorelinemarket

My choice on should I use rechargeable or not is based on the mfg.  The power rating between rechargeable and non-rechargeable can cause issues on performance and over powering the device.  If the device is not designed to work with both types I will often skip buying the hardware.

For pure power output skip rechargeable batteries.  However, for day in and day out use I would never be without rechargeable batteries.

I do like using this flashlight on the bill of my baseball cap.  It does kick out a lot of light, and it is not always cheap to feed.

http://www.batteryjunction.com/olight-s10-xml2.html

The big problem with this flashlight is that the on/off button is way too easy to trigger when in your pocket.

And yes, AA are no more efficient than AAA. It's the chemistry and the voltage that give 123s the advantage.

Sorry, I was in a hurry when I made my last post and didn't compete my answer.

I'm a flashaholic. I pursued perfection from the start and the Quark mini123 was the first light that amazed me, but I didn't stop there and I have a trail of lights I've bought since then to demonstrate my obsession. I stand by my recommendation for most people who aren't as obsessed as me and in this case because the person making the original request was carrying something that was, IMHO, an easy light to improve on.

The quark mini123 is a hard light to fault for it's size, simplicity, and lack of things to break. On most lights the single greatest cause of failure is the clickie switch. The mini has no clickie switch, so therefore it is more reliable than any light in it's price range. Now, my reason for leaving this light behind (now in my hiking kit rather than edc) is because of a) it's size- it's actually too small for my pockets and I was having to dig for it which annoyed me and b) the lack of a momentary on switch for tactical applications. I also have an older generation that only put out 185 lumens and while that is adequate light for most applications, I'm a lumen-whore without apology. Oh, and yes, the rechargeable thing needs to be taken very seriously with CR123 lights. The voltage between a CR123 and and RCR123 is significant and using an RCR for a light not designed to handle it will fry the light.

My next EDC was the JetBeam PC10. This is still my nightstand light and a light I have very few issues with. It became my light when the Lumen-whore in me discovered that it could use either a cr123 or an rcr123 and with the rechargeable would put out close to 500 lumens!  It also had a tactical momentary switch, a programmable brightness setting and a way to always get to your brightest setting with a twist of the bezel. This was an important feature because I was finding with the mini that getting to my brightest setting without scrolling through settings was valuable for dealing with the homeless after work in the winter.

But alas, I was on a quest, so along with the wanting instant full bright, I also needed to be able to access the dimmest setting on demand, too. In the mornings I need to be able to find my clothes in a dark room without disturbing my loving wife. So I need something between a half and three lumens without having to cycle. So on to the scene came my Sunwayman V10R. Still 500 lumens, still a momentary switch, but a super strong spring that's reversible so I can clip it to my hat rim for headlamp use and a dial brightness setting that goes from .5-480 lumens with the twist of the wrist. I carry every day with a rechargeable 123, but have a primary 123 in every kit and pocket for the lower output but several day battery life on the super low settings. When I got this light it was on close out for $50 because they were upgrading from 480 to 500+ lumens. When I lost my light I nearly cried and was fortunate to find a replacement on sale for $70 since they now retail for $79-100. The new one was the upgraded 500+ lumen model and, well, I didn't like it as much. The lowest setting with the RCR is too bright, like 3-5 lumens vs .5 with my old one. I was disappointed until I was cleaning out my car and found my old one. It remains my edc while the new one is part of my EMT pants for middle of the night calls.

So my pickiness has no limits. I relegate a $70 flashlight that is brighter and newer to occasional use while holding on high a cheaper, dinged up, dimmer light because of one little thing that bothers me. And of course, I can't bring myself to sell any of them. Which is also why I have both an Olight E3s and a fenix LD01, two nearly identical lights, filling identical niches in my life (although I'll confess, I didn't pay for the Olight, it came free with my new sleeping bag, but is now my preferred of the two, but suffers from an inferior clip to the fenix, which is why I still recommend the fenix first).

My name is endurance and I am a flashaholic.

well, no one is perfect. take it from a flashaholic buddy....

Now i geenrally agree with the latest posts but i will have to add:

1.
Quote
For pure power output skip rechargeable batteries.

that is not true for hi-drain, high-output devices. Modern AA flashlights will be compromised with the use of alkalines. These were never designed to stand the 2 amps draw of modern flashlights (getting a bit technical)

2.
we have missed the game changing effect of the AA & AAA lithiums.
A Energizer L91 (AA) is very similar to the CR123 (yet those can be found cheaper among lithium batteries)

in similar terms, the lithum rechargable AA battery is the same (some argue a tiny bit better) than the rechargables RCR123s.

So a common man can skimp on the CR123 lights and go for the equivalent 1xA models, one the expense of larger size.
But he will be able to use
AA rechargables
AA alkalines
AA lithiums (Energizer L91)
14500 (lithium rechargable AA)
14505 (3V lithiums, non-rechargable AAs) (a bit esoteric option)

Actually modern flashlight manufacturers use the same head for both the 1xAA, 2xAA, and Cr123 versions of the same light.
Some also offer an extender for their CR123 lights to take the AAs.

So one of my EDC lights is a Sunwayman V10R+extender= the V10A model.
this way i can enjoy the CR123 types of batteries too

and in total flashaholic smugness....
I have bored out the Sunwayman extender to CR123 inside thckness. And I amable to use 2 more Esoteric battery types.

Seems a write up of my EDC accessories is in order.

Does anyone have any ideas for an everyday carry that does not (for legal reasons) include guns?.  Thanks!

Are you looking for suggestions on EDC items for self-defense, other than guns? There are other threads on this topic, so I'll keep it brief.

Here is a short list of ideas, and I'm sure others on the forum can offer many more:
- Knife
- Pepper spray
- Stun gun
- Cane
- 'slap cap' or similar

Personally, I carry pepper spray. It provides a less-than-lethal option to deter an assailant from a safe range and get my a$$ out of harm's way. It's small, affordable, and can be carried almost anywhere. True, some people (especially those on drugs) can fight through it, but in most circumstances it will be more than enough. In fact, I believe even those who concealed carry would benefit from a less-than-lethal option.

As always, you need to determine your personal needs/wants, understand the relevant laws where you live, and make an informed decision.

jhull87 - I'm curious how you decide what to include in your EDC.

InquiringMind, (hopefully I quoted you right). Thanks! I've actually changed my EDC just from reading on all you guys, so thanks to everyone who has posted.

The reason I used to carry so many knives is the fact I wasn't supposed to carry a weapon at work. I figured it would be easier to explain a knife as a ''tool" than a pistol.

The main things that have changed are the flashlight- Now a Fenix E12
Knife-Beanchmade 154CM (the only one now besides the Leatherman, and the small blade on the money clip)
Leatherman- Sidekick
Keys- Now have a small pill bottle with some regular OTC meds, salt tablets, and water purification tablets. the P-38, nail clippers, and 4" landyard of 550 cord.

Started carrying my weapon at work after talking to the boss. He gave me written permission since the NC law has changed since the time the handbook was written.

I went from my Glock 23 Gen 1 to a Glock 19 Gen 3 and love the difference.

Been a little while since I updated, things have changed at work...finally got to actually carry what I want to.

Wallet- $100 cash in a vacuum sealed bag (my emergency cash and if it wasn't done that way I'd spend it lol), credit car knife (and yes a xray can see it, learned that the hard way), and one prepaid credit card with $100 on it. (I'm questioning whether this is worth it or not based on fees)

Keys- on the weekends I carry 2 sets (at work I carry others but I don't consider them my EDC). Both sets have a truck key, house key, and a P-32. One set has a Gerber clip on it. I carry them in separate pockets, and both P-32s have electrical tape around them. Not really an EDC thing but more so I don't stab myself in my pockets lol.

Weapon- I've finally decided I really don't care about what my boss says about CCW at wprk. So I carry a G19 in a Nate Tactical holster, IWB and tackable version. I can tuck my undershirt in over the holster and sill wear my Polo untucked. The G19 is 'slicked up" with a 3lb trigger, 25 cent polish job, and a lone wolf threaded barrel (BTW I have a bone to pick with them in the handgun forum).

Knives- normally during the week I carry a Gerber EAB, my Leatherman  sidekick, and a cheap Kershaw folder. When not at work, I swap the Kershaw for a ZT. And on weekends I add my MT Genius neck knife.

I'm sure there is more that I care off and on depending on where I'm going, and what I'm doing. I have little pill bottles I carry on key chains, certain boots I wear with paracord laces and fire starter in the sole, and even armor I wear going into the city...

Looking back, it's interesting how my EDC has progressed, as I'm sure everyone has in their preps.

I just started playing around with leather craft and made up a pocket organizer for some of my EDC gear.

On left is a Leatherman Freestyle, in the middle is a Fisher Space Pen and on the right is an Olight i3E flashlight.  This will live in my right front pocket.

Front left pocket:
-   The cell phone I am taking this photo with

Front right pocket:
-   Reading Glasses (when I am not wearing them)
-   Main Knife – Gerber Fullback (shown)*

Front right small “coin pocket”
-   Olight I3EEOS flashlight
-   Gerber Dime**

* My main knife is usually a Case full size trapper in Zytel Camo scales or a Victorinox Climber.

** Usually my small multi-tool is a Leatherman Squirt PS4 but I carrying the Dime because of the cap lifter (many craft brews in my neck of the woods).

That other organizer was working ok, but was a bit too floppy.  I wanted something a little more rigid.  So I tried my hand at wet forming leather.  Not the best, but it's coming along.  I carry this in the same pocket as my keys, so next version will likely hold my keys as well.

You serious? This leather work is fine!

BTW,  how flexible I left is this case? Will it conform with movement,  will it print?

Thanks, but I see that the corners aren't fluid and I have a lot of tool marks.  But I'm pretty happy with it, being as I've only made a couple of things so far.

Yes, it prints on my pocket.  I put it in tool side towards my body.  That way is looks like I have a wallet or a notepad in my pocket.  But it is noticeable.

I've carried it all this week and find that while the black one was too floppy, this one is a bit too stiff.  Next version will be thinner leather so it flexes a bit.  Once leather is wet formed, it gets fairly stiff.  I'll post when I make new versions.
