AARRRGGGHHHH!!! Kinetic puller self destructed!
« on: October 20, 2009, 06:16:26 PM »
My cap on my RCBS kinetic puller split in half...super glue has failed. Anyone know if I can just buy a cap? I'm surprised how much they pullers are....I just need a cap. I wonder if I can make something out of  a PVC cap.

You will need something that threads down to keep the round from bouncing.....

You are talking about an impact puller like this one?  < $20.00 is expensive?

It's not that it's expensive...but why should I buy a $20ish dollar puller when all I need is the cap? It's the principle of the thing. I think I paid about $8 or $10 when I bought it originally, so yes, the price has just about doubled since I got it.

I've had the Frankford Arsenal Impact Bullet Puller above http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=215517 for 15+ years and still going strong.  A little cheaper at $15.00

I bet the caps are the same thread though.  Looks like an ACME in the 8TPI range from memory.  Without threading the cap I don't see a way to make a replacement.

I could make one from Delrin, but the time involved would not be worth more than $15.00

Let us know what you come up with.

If you have all the cap pieces (less than 3) you could make a slip over to keep it in tack after super gluing

I've got an email in to RCBS to see if I can just get a new cap. I guess I'll also email Dillon to see if I buy theirs as a replacement if it has the same no BS lifetime warranty the rest of their stuff has. I've got a ton of both RCBS and Dillon equipment and have been more than happy with both.

That's a good idea if I understand what yours saying....I could glue it all together, then glue the cap into say...a pvc cap or something that it would fit in...good idea. I'll see what I can figure out.

Duh!

Didn't even think of asking for a replacement.  I bet they send you one.

The problem with the cap is ya gotta get lucky and find a diameter that fits or bore it to fit.  It is close to an inch in O-dia so you might find some PVC in a SCH that works.  If you have no luck and can give me measurements for a replacement I can bore out a Delrin cap for you at the cost of shipping.

appreciate the offer. I'll see what RCBS says...in the meantime I'll play around with another fix and see what I come up with. I'll post up a resolution one way or another.

I broke my green one, called RCBS, they said send it back and they'd take care of me.

I packaged it and sent it in. A few days later I got it back - the broken one- with a work order that a brief message on it- "Not RCBS manufacture".

It was at that point I remembered I bought it at Cabelas.....  doh!

I was so ashamed I bought a Frankford Arsenal one from Midwayusa

Interesting side note, I got an email from Dillon today saying their kinetic puller has a lifetime manufacturer warranty from it's manufacturer....RCBS.
