Metal Ammo Box vs Plastic Boxes
« on: February 27, 2010, 01:21:57 PM »
Outside of just personal preferences, can anyone say for sure if there are advantages of Metal Ammo Boxes vs Plastic?

Question number two. Are there any issues with storing ammo loose in a box? I am not talking about storing match grade ammo loose.

Metal Ammo boxes???

I'm assuming you mean Military Ammo Cans vs Plastic Cartridge Boxes.

My 22 ammunition is stored in the carboard boxes they come in, inside a 30 Cal Ammo Can.

I store my practice/plinking ammunition in plastic freezer bags (Labels printed and placed in bag) in Ammo Cans.

I also own several hundred MTM and Midway plastic cartridge boxes.  These are also stored in Military Ammo Cans.

The advantage is that the Military cans have a rubber seal.  They are also much more robust than plastic.

Ammo cans are stackable and have a handle for easy carry.

My 2 cents

Steve

I like and use the military 50 cal metal ammo cans. I found a guy on E-bay that sells them in a 8 quanity lot for cheap. They are in great shape and much better price then I can get at any army  surplus store.

I only use military ammo cans. The airtight/watertight seal is the primary reason. Their availability, low cost (mostly free actually), portability, durability, etc all help make them my first choice.
