Big HF SSB contest this weekend
« on: March 26, 2010, 01:14:04 PM »
For those newly licensed Generals (and Techs on 10 meters), this is a great weekend to catch some rather rare contest stations.  The CQ WW WPX contest is this weekend starting at 8pm Eastern Time.  With the decent solar condition we are having those on the east coast should easily be able to work 10-20 European and Caribbean DX entities in just a few hours - even with small station.  Last CQ contest I was able to pick up 15 new DX entities.

Rules can be found here:

Keep an ear out for me.  I'll jump in sometime Saturday afternoon.  Haven't decided yet if I'm going to run QRP or not.  I'll also be in the CW version in May, but I'll have a different callsign then.  Don't know what it will be yet though.

Not a hard core contester -- picked up a few contacts though.

I just do them to pick up the states I need on 40 for WAS and to grab some new DX entities.  I have never turned in a log.

I have been out of town all weekend visiting with the Inlaws in eastern Missouri.  I had a few minutes spare time, so I strung up some speaker wire in the bedroom, (terrible antenna), and operated 20 meters, qrp, SSB.  In about 15 minutes, I made contacts in Florida, Idaho, and California.  Woohoo!
