;) Thanks.  He's got two speeds: exitosus turbo, and sleep.

He just got his big sister Hannah the pit bull in big, big, big trouble.  He was attacking her legs, and she stepped on him and made him limp around for a good 5 minutes.  I had to send her to bed, and boy is she worried about that kitten.  He just walked in the bedroom, carrying his favorite toy (that thing with the feathers on it), so I'm sure there's a peace treaty going on right now.  =)

Nice video, SW!

BTW, for anyone who doesn't want to establish an account with an image-hosting service, there are several who will let you upload anonymously.  For example: ImageShack or PostImage.org.  (This is not an endorsement, just a couple of services I've run into.)  Or, if you have your own website, you can host the image yourself.

To post an image manually, just click the Insert Image button, and put the URL of your image between the tags, like so:

Code: [Select]
[img]http://www.example.com/myimage.jpg[/img]

Advanced image posting with thumbnails:

With many image-hosting services, this isn't very advanced at all.  The service will automatically generate a thumbnail of your image, and the correct code to insert it in a post.

If you want to do this manually, here's how:

First, make a thumbnail (miniature version) of your image, using your favorite software (Photoshop, GIMP, etc), save it under a different name, and upload it (along with the original) to your image-hosting service or web server.

Here's my original image: http://statler.ws/RosaFoetida1.jpg

And my thumbnail: http://statler.ws/RosaFoetida1t.jpg

Click the Insert Hyperlink button and then the Insert Image button:

Code: [Select]
[url][img][/img][/url]
Following the first url, insert an equals sign and the URL of your original image:

Code: [Select]
[url=http://statler.ws/RosaFoetida1.jpg][img][/img][/url]
Then, between the img tags, insert the URL of your thumbnail image:

Code: [Select]
[url=http://statler.ws/RosaFoetida1.jpg][img]http://statler.ws/RosaFoetida1t.jpg[/img][/url]
You're done!  Here's the result -- a thumbnail which is a clickable link to the full-size original:

If your original image is large, using thumbnails will be a help to forum members with slow Internet connections.  It will also decrease the load on whatever server is hosting your images.

The vid software I used is called "Jing Pro" ($15.00 a year).  They have a free version, but it will only save the vid as an SWF file, which is HUGE.  Had to go pro for you guys so that I could use the MP4 extension.

The free version is otherwise amazing.  I highly recommend it if you have any use for it (it captures stills as well as vids with or without a mic).

For image hosting, I use Picassa Web Albums (By google).

You can sign in with your gmail account, get tons of free storage, directly link to images (no redirect page with ad banners), it's free, you can manage security permissions (Everyone can see this, only my friends can see that etc.) and it has some of the best bandwidth you'll find with free image hosts.  We've all seen large images on sites lie imageshack that take 2-3 minutes to load in the forum page, even with broadband.  Google's Picassa web albums are much faster.

Hello,
How do I post a picture to my profile? I have created an account and uploaded a picture at both Flikr and postimage.org but no photo appears on my profile page when I copy and past the url address. I don't see an image code option like Sis showed on her photobucket tutorial. I am usually able to upload photos directly from my pc desktop to other sites, but it doesn't work on TSP.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Heather

Roxie,
At the top of this page near the search bar, is the "Profile" button. Hit that and then on the left side of that page will be the "Modify Profile" section. Hit the "Forum Profile Information" button. There you will see a section called "I have my own pic" where you can put the location of a hosted pic or you can upload from your computer in the next line. Just put a dot to the left of which ever type you choose. If you're loading from your computer hit the "Browse" button and locate the picture on your computer.
When done, hit the "Change Profile" button on the bottom of the page.

Thanks, Hare, but I've tried those instructions numerous times and no photo shows up. That's why I tried the other method of creating an account with an image hosting site. I was able to upload a photo on APN and other sites but am perplexed as to why it won't work on TSP.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but one thing to check: make sure you've got the URL of the image, and not the URL of the Flickr or Postimage webpage that contains the image.

Hello Sister Wolf,

Very informative video.  Would the same procedure be used to enter a
photo for a profile.  I have been trying to upload a .jpg for my profile
picture with success.

Any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Click "Profile" up top in the button bar, and then click "Forum Profile Information" under "Modify Profile" on the left. This will bring up the option to specify an url where your avatar picture is located or to upload a picture to the forum server.

Piscasa -  once you have uploaded your pictures to a folder, you need to open that folder view to change the security settings.  In the upper right hand corner (under the date & photo count), there is a link that brings up a box where you can set the view access to "private", "any one with link", or "everyone".   You can just pick the "anyone with link".

Then you click/select on the specific picture you want to link to.  On the right hand side there is a "link to this picture" hyperlink.  Clicking on it brings up a couple of options for you to select.

Check the "image only(no link)" box.  Select the size of photo you want to post (I find either of the mediums work well)

Copy and past the Embed image link between the HTML code         [ img ]embedded image link[ /img ]       (without the spaces between the brackets)

You can check how the picture looks by hitting the preview post button.

I just wanted to endorse the video and put a plug in for photobucket. It was very easy (even if photobucket has changed their interface a bit) to do. I had tried previously to do so with picassa since i already had a Gmail account 30 minutes of goofing around there didn't get a photo posted and about 5 minutes (including creating an account) on photobucket and I was getting pictures posted. They even have it set up that if you click on the url link box it automatically copies the link. You don't even have to ctrl-c to get it. Thanks.
