Hold on to your butts..

That is how the 8.9 happened in Japan. 7 something followed by a 5 something then finishing off with the 8.9

4.8 just now - just a wee bit more south, but same area-ish. Only Vancouver Island to Alaska on tsunami watch at this time it looks like. http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/ottawa/Tsunami+warning+after+earthquake+coast/7459520/story.html

In three hours, there has been this many earthquakes and aftershocks. It was felt on my old farm and I know people near this area where the epicenter in the Queen Charlottes are.

Wow.

I just keep thinking that beyond the actual effects and direct after effects of these natural disasters. . . how are we going to pay for the cleanup, rebuilding/repair and aid?  Could something like a string of disasters on top of drought/food issues on top of debt be the catalyst for a more severe and noticeable economic event.

Hopefully this series of quakes didn't destabilize the San Jaun De Fuca faults or is this considered to be the northen part of that system. It's amazing to see pictures of people that are lining a seawall to view the wave. Can't fix stupid.

is this considered to be the northen part of that system.

This one is on a different fault line not directly related to the Cascadia fault.

This is up in the Queen Charlottes. By Prince Rupert. I know of at least 1 TSP member who could have been affected by this event/s and it is my old stomping ground for 9 years, so I am interested in it.

Thank you for your diligence Cedar!  Your message beat NOAAs by about 30 minutes before the alerts started sounding on the TV.  No wave hit up here but there's been some interesting quake activity in the Aleutian islands and Canada (7.7).  We're concerned because we've not had a shaker in south central AK for a long time, and the clock is ticking.

I've heard of full moons having some kind of effect on seismic activity but I'm pretty sure it's scare tactic Apocalypse hype. Maybe this is a precursor to the deadly supermoon?

You are welcome. There are some 'little' ones starting to hit Y, Alaska (is there really a place called "Y" up there?). If you want me to keep track up there too, let me know.

There is a Y, but it's not really known by that name, just grouping of residences up in Talkeetna area, but in our borough (Matinuska Susitna Borough).  Thanks again for watching out!  I'll take any help in monitoring that I can get.

It's a little disconcerting to read these alerts after the fact. I was visiting someone on the WA coastline at the time this happened. It tremored there enough to set the chandeliers lightly swaying. I happened to sleep through it, but was informed afterwards and also that news of the extent of the earthquake came over the radio.

They didn't mention hearing any tsunami warning, which is odd because we were staying right on the beach at sea level. ::) And for some reason, I didn't think to raise any tsunami concern. That bothers me. It just flat out didn't occur to me. My health was requiring a fair bit of focus at the time, so I suppose that's somewhat of an excuse, but I would hope that even then my brain could connect the dots between earthquake on the coastal beach and potential tsunami hazard.

Thanks for the info, Cedar.
