... getting a garand on monday :D

Enjoy brother! I have never enjoyed shooting any rifle as much as i do the Garand, but an M107 is a bit of fun as well.

I checked some local stores again today out of the blue and as usual... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

I am convinced I will never be able to buy handgun ammo in a store ever again.

Just left my local Walmart and am starting to see ammo on the shelves finally.  For the 3rd trip in a row they had .40's and .45's on the shelf.  Both calibers in Winchester 100 round packs but also 50 round packs of Winchester full metal jacket in the .40 cal.  Also .380's, .223, 22 mag, 7mm was in stock for long gun ammo.  Sporting goods manager stated he had gotten in a case of 9mm as well but sold out in about 3 hours today.

I'm in Missouri for work and there is actually ammo up here! I've been going to bass pro and cabellas as much as I can afford. So far I've stocked up 600 rounds of 5.56 and a few pmags. I love cabellas! I've also picked up some good stuff to throw in the packs.

One hard thing to find here is .40, I actually picked some up from Walmart... so far nothing but expensive defense rounds at cabellas.

last week walmart was still out of everything, but shotgun shells and a few rifle calibers.  Gander Mountain in the same shopping center has everything but 22.  I'm in Gastonia, NC right outside of Charlotte.

down here everything is back to normal. even the gas stations/tackle box stores have stock again. the hunting and shooting store that has been open for 30 years in my town never went dry. IT WAS CLOSE, but always had ammo in stock. It was a combination of his suppliers keeping him stocked and the majority of people didn't need to stock up on account they've been stocking up for years and decades LOL.

I picked up some small pistol primers (CCI) for $35 a brick. The dealer at the Madison gun show said it was an order he put in October and he just got it this week. Another dealer sold me some CCI's Large pistol primers for $38/1000. 22lr were still to high. The best price I found was $50/500 for Thunderbolt. I saw someone buy 900 CCi's mini mags in a plastic 50 cal. ammo box for $109.
Well I'm covered for now. With the primers I just bought and casting my own bullets I should be good for  6 months.

Cheaper Than Dirt has 380 in stock now. I may buy some, or wait a few weeks until I can actually go to the range (way too busy right now). I have seen .45 and 9mm in stock here and there around town, but very limited supply (maybe a box). The last time I was in Cabella's in Wheeling WV they had tons of 45 but no other handgun ammo.

It would be LOVELY if it would just get back to normal and this thread becomes inactive because nobody has trouble finding ammo anymore.

I went to CTD today. They had some of everything. The 5.56 was still to high for me to bite, but they did have a few 1000 round boxes. I did pick up a brick of .22LR and some .45 acp.

I'm just curious, as the ammo is becoming more available, what the prices are. Where I am it is still very dry.  .22LR is "available" and on the shelf at the local range, but it was $95 for a brick of 500.

So... Are we seeing ammo available, or "available"? How are we defining "normal"?

Thanks! Hopefully this thread will be a good laugh in the future, when all ammo is once again cheap.

Well, the brick of Federal .22LR I bought today (325 rounds) was $43.97 + tax., so still pretty steep an 13.5 cents per round, but is cheaper than what I have seen lately.

The only other .22LR I have seen during the last 6 months was 9.75 for 50 rounds. I didn't buy any of that.

I certainly hope that .22lr becomes more than "available" since I have an SR22 on the way as my first gun. Would really suck to have my first gun with nothing to shoot through it.

It's currently cheaper for me to hand load cast lead .38spl than to buy rimfire.

In the San Antonio area, I haven't seen anything more than .270, .45LC, .20ga, and a few other odd rifle cartridges in any big store in a VERY long time.  I hear if you hit Academy sports on the right days and wait in line, you can buy the alloted two boxes of 5.56, .45ACP, 9mm, and .40 for stupid money.  Haven't gotten that desperate yet...

Found some .40, .45, and CCI minimags on Friday at 2:00 in the afternoon at my local walmart.
Also on truck days at academy get there around 30-45 minutes before 8 am and wait in line and get  325 ct federal auto match .22 for 16.99.

I checked out my local Walmart today and it's worse than ever.  A month or two ago, you'd still find the expensive "self defense" loads for .45 ACP and .38.  They're gone now too.

I have to say I haven't been paying much attention to this issue but I had to buy ammo for my 22 to kill some chickens today (yes, the chantecler's I mentioned in today's show!) I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and they were completely out. They said they usually sell out within a day of getting a shipment. Good news is that they have another shipment coming in Wednesday.

My store carries Winchester Elite PDX1 Defender, but the choice of calibers is still shrinking.

I just returned from my local gun store in Woodstock, Georgia.  The owner said he is out of most ammo, because the DHS is buying it all.

Anybody have any idea why the DHS needs so much ammo?

I'm not sure if the guy was just messing with you or if he was being serious, but there are a lot of things affecting ammo availability more than .gov purchases.

I was at Bi Mart picking up a pool noodle for a project and saw .22LR sitting on the shelf. 2 box maximum purchase for $7-something.

Cedar - assuming those were the little 50 round boxes.  Approx 1"x2"?
Back in the day (last year) those were $2.50-3 each :(
