My friends fav place now has 'all the flavors' for the most part available. He said 'maybe the shortage is over'. Me, who is always optimistic about everything, is pessimistic about this.

I recently moved to the midwest and my Walmart sells guns, ammo and lots more sporting supplies than the one in northern Colorado.
Unfortunately, their .22 bricks still sell out the same day they receive them, according to the guy working behind the counter.

Yeah, makes me wonder when people will start thinking they have enough.

I guess that depends on what it is you think you need enough for.  For training?  For another panic buy crisis?  For the zombie apocalypse?  For the night stand?

Sat 7/27/13 stopped by Cabela's at Tulalip, WA.

no .22lr save for extremely expensive tracers
lots of .223/5.56, got some PMC for $8.99 a 20rnd box.
lots of .45ACP, but only a few varieties.
some .380
almost no 9mm
Noticed a bunch of cool old milsurp calibers in the Herter's brand including: 7.62x54r, .303Brit, 7.7x58 jap, etc.

Only powder was clays universal (shotshell), no cartridge primers, but decent bullet and brass selection.  I got some 69gr Sierra matchkings to try out.

Exactly.

Before people bitch at the guy in front of them buying 1,000 rounds they might consider that its only a month's worth of shooting for him and that it's half of what he used to shoot every month because of the prices.

Yeah, I admit I tend to jump to conclusions and assume those guys are just buying it to hoard it or sell it for a profit.

You and me both... although I have not been trying to time my search with restocking arrivals.

Got 300 CCI Mini Mags at Walmart tonight!  8) I think they got a case of solids and hollow points.  I think that most of the cases were gone in an hour.

Still seeing about the same as last post in local Wal Mart.  Small quantities of most rifle ammo and .40 and .45 pistol ammo on the shelf most of the time now in small quantities.

People bitch'n about a guy doing what they would have done had they the diligence he had are noth'n but bitches that don't deserve to have it.  It's still a free country and rewards should go to the guy who works for what he wants. . .  Buy it when you find it, buy it ALL.

Last time I bought primers, I took roughly half of what the store had.  Part of the excuse for not grabbing them all - they weren't my favorite brand/style.  No reason do deprive several other customers since I knew I had my fill for the next 4+ months.

Obviously that's my choice, and not any sort of rule for others.  If I was a competitive shooter and reloaded hundreds per week, I would have taken them all.

That's only two days at the range for me in the weeks leading up to a competition

It's so strange reading y'all going to Walmart for ammo. Ever since Katrina the greater New Orleans area wallmarts don't carry ammo. We get it from local shops and stores like academy. Still have wide varieties. Not seeing shortages anymore.

  I was at the gun show today. Best price for 22LR was $40 for a box of 525. CCI mini mags were $16 a 100. Pistol primers were $40 a brick of CCI's. Winchester 9 1/2 (?) LR mag. primers were $40 a 900 (one was missing.) 9 mm reloads $16/ 50. Some .380's and 32's. Lots of 40 , 45 acp's , 223 and 308's.

$25/100 rounds both 12ga and 20ga at Walmart. Hmm... Now that's a price I've not seen in a long time. A long time.

Hootie, is that a typo?  Are you saying seven dollars for a brick of .22LR?  Or should it be seventeen dollars for a brick?  Doth mine eyes deceive me?  That HAS to be either a typo or a mistake by Walmart.

lol, NP.
For the curious......

I brick is generally considered to be 500 rounds, although modern day packaging and marketing has presented many variations.

I "brick" was once upon a time a box in which 10 smaller boxes each contained 50 rounds all stacked neatly and organized.  As a kid, I would open the brick, pull out a couple of small boxes of 50, stuff them in my pocket with a grin and head toward the nearest prairie dog town with my dad's single shot .22lr (who knows what brand) rifle that he purchased at a pawn shop for $20.   This was in the mid 80s.

Now let's see how it works today:

Store shelves are bare and selling to minors is often prohibited, so most "bricks" are plastic sandwich bags containing 500 loose rounds (plus or minus 10). Bricks are mostly sold at gun shows for $90, so a kid might buy several at once. Upon returning home, they stuff a dozen in their pocket with a grin and head toward the nearest prairie dog town. On the way, a neighbor spots him and calls the police to report an armed gunman in the area.

The kid is hauled off under armed guard and his Dad brought in since that single shot .22lr rifle (which he purchased at a gun shop for $200... plus $75 in mandatory fees) was illegally stored in an unlocked closet and the prairie dog town was a protected "threatened wildlife sanctuary." People believe that only a future mass shooter would need to buy over 1000 rounds of ammo at a time, so the kid goes to court ordered therapy and is watched for several years. On the news that night, a politician says the incident proves that a "national discussion" is needed to "keep these kids safe."

How times change!
