- Journalist beaten and robbed as Ferguson protests turn violent. St. Louis Post-Dispatch Paul Hampel was beaten and robbed of his phone as protests in Ferguson to mark the death of Michael Brown turned violent.
- CNN interviews Ferguson interim police chief just as shots are fired (I think this is the initial incident, not a new one)

here we go again...

It never stopped, it was down to a simmer however. I figured tonight would get a bit interesting,,,

7 mins ago:
- Gas deployed in Ferguson. Likely just smoke bombs so far. Hard to tell from here. Smoke usually proceeds tear gas.
- Still in Ferguson, cops looking for shell casings on West Ferguson, three arrests and now smoke or tear gas at Reds
- Definitely heard gunshots a few minutes ago. Sounded like it came from down Canfield.

Will be peace be achieved through appeasement or coercion?

Basically these agitators will only go home when they get what they want, OR the consequences are too high to continue.

Legally and politically I don't think a bayonet charge from horseback is feasible, so I worry some really far out anti-LEO legislation or exec. order may be in the works.

It's awkward wording like this that confuses a person.

After the cavalry charged, the infantry, with fixed bayonets and tear gas

One of the reporters from the McDonalds last year, has now been summoned to court
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2015/08/10/washington-post-reporter-charged-with-trespassing-interfering-with-a-police-officer/?postshare=5491439244206635

Wesley Lowery, the reporter who is the guy mentioned above, posted this today
"As of today, 595 people have been fatally shot by on-duty police officers so far in 2015 "

He also mentions:
"For what it's worth: ryan j reilly and I had a bet about whether or not we'd get charged (statute of limitations was a year). Ryan won"

Ryan Reilly Says:
"WesleyLowery and I are backed by big media companies, and this will obviously turn out fine for us. But it is pretty damn troubling."

No, it certainly isn't.  I think we're going to have some very long term problems in certain cities.  And not to be little miss negative, but I have a feeling it'll get worse long before getting better.

I saw four Blackwater cosplay looking guys in the story below, I had hoped they had wandered away from GENCON or something but they claim to be acting as PSD for some Infowars reporter.  Infowars denies they had any roll in their presence however.

Lovely.

Another group of people that rode their particular interest hobby horse into a town that has its own problems and does not need to borrow any more.

The Ferguson Effect:

Real?

or

Not Real?

Personally, I think it's pretty obvious that a very small percent of cops are bad actors.  They're in it because it gives them opportunities to do illegal activities that they wouldn't otherwise have as private citizens.  Those are the ones getting caught on video.  However, the overwhelming majority of cops care about their communities, care about their careers and keeping their nose clean, and care about how their future enough to not do stupid things that would place them at risk of losing those jobs.  Those are the cops that are impacted by these high profile cases.  The bad cops could care less because they've been getting away with their crap for years.

So the good cops see someone they know has a history of getting in trouble, they've caught him before doing petty crimes, maybe bigger stuff on occasion and usually when they see him, they go have a talk.  But he's also one of those guys that always makes a scene.  He's that guy who is going to try to run, he's going to resist, and he's going to shout like you're breaking his neck.  You see him with several other bad guys in a public setting where there's people on their porches, in the windows, all around.  Do you go have a chat?  Is it worth it?  Is this something that could end in a few weeks on suspension while they complete an internal investigation once someone complains?  Nevermind.  And now the bad guy sees you drive off and feels emboldened.  The community loses.  There's the Ferguson Effect in a nutshell, the way I see it anyway.

Humans are creatures of habit, the Ferguson affect most likely does occur, as it's a perfectly plausible reactionary example, but probably not at the level by which the article is pushing it.  The vast majority of the time, the people involved just do what they are used to doing.   If they stop and think about it, they may alter their behavior, but again humans are creatures of habit.  This goes for both sides of the Ferguson issue.

The college seems to be distancing itself from her too.  They keep reminding everyone that she was not a full professor and that they have told her she doesn't need to come by the campus anymore.
