Retro offering from Spike's, 37mm M79 Grenade Launcher
« on: December 05, 2017, 08:30:59 AM »
So Spike's is offering a facsimile of the iconic M79 grenade launcher of Vietnam War fame.  It is of course offered in 37mm so it is not considered a Destructive Device (DD), which the original 40mm launchers are.  Having explosive rounds for the launcher would each be considered a DD in their own right so the launcher will almost universally used to launch either inert rounds or some form of other projectile (gas, flare, smoke, etc.).  I am sort of tempted, I always liked the M79 in appearance.

Ironically, this is not the first 37mm launcher to hit the market recently.  Colt recently announced a limited run of 37mm M203 launchers with the markings and stylings of the likewise iconic 40mm under barrel grenade launchers used by the US Army.

Here is the original that this replicates in appearance:

Perhaps the M203's most famous featuring in popular culture was:

I can't think of a reason for it other than its cool.  Which is reason enough.

Would I need to ask? I promise to only light up Iowa...

Kidding aside, it looks like a fun toy. Practical? Maybe not but I just put together a 12 lb .22 with a 9 power scope so who am I to judge?
