Would anyone like to learn to make their own soap?
« on: October 29, 2009, 01:59:48 PM »
If I put together a pdf manual would anyone be interested?  Would love to pass on my years of being a professional soap maker to others.  Been manufacturing soap and spa products to spas/salons.  Can help you source local ingredients without spending a fortune too.  Just my way of wanting to help out!

Thanks,

Amy

I would be very interested in a soap making manual and also any information you could supply on finding cheap ingredients. I've been thinking about trying the soap making thing for a while now, this may be the final push I need!

I, too, would be interested in learning.

My "To Be Printed and Read" list just keeps growing and growing!  While PDFs are fun, they rely on a working computer.

Count me in as well. I have made soap before, but only from a kit, and I would love better instruction.

(*waits for it*)

Word to the wise.  On these forums, it is usually best to just post something that is potentially useful.  Otherwise, you have people waiting for you to return.  Unless, of course, this is a social experiment...

"How do you keep an idiot busy?"
"I don't know, how?"
"..." (walks away)
"Hey, wait a minute...how?  Hellooooo???"  ...

If you do not have your own site at which to post a pdf or word file, consider

www.scribd.com

You can upload your documents to there, and then just post the appropriate link.

For example:

;D Good grief! I wasn't alerted to any replies!!! Glad I checked here...

I will put together something that you can't really find that most soapmakers don't think about...what if you are without power to use a scale or have batteries to run a scale??  I thought about this long and hard one day when the power went out as I was measuring quite a large batch of ingredients for soap.  So, I was thinking that I should come up with a basic recipe that can be balanced and safe using measuring cups. Also, I'll include ingredients we all can find at most retailers like Wally World, Kroger, Publix, and any general nutrition store.

Let me gather my thoughts and I will do this for you guys!  So that my server isn't inundated (sp?) with downloads, I may just email it to those who want it or do the scribd thing.  And YES, I do make goat milk soap and can offer some suggestions on how to make it without making it go wild on you and wasting precious ingredients.

I'll be back, I promise...off to check my settings so I know when I get replies to my posts!

Amy, where are you getting lye these days?  I was buying Roebic caustic drain crystals from Lowe's, but they quit carrying it, and I have yet to find another source.  Luckily, I still have a canister or two (I do not make soap often, just for my family and Christmas gifts - oh, and small soaping classes here and there for neighbors), but when this runs out, I will be hurting!

I do have an option of buying a 50# bag from a local soaping supplier, but at my current rate of usage, that would last me 33 years!!!!  I have contemplated buying it anyway and having it as a source of income if SHTF, but......
