What are challenge coins (they're gorgeous by the way) and how can I get my hands on one/some? I saw that they are sold out in the store...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challenge_coin

We're ordering another batch (actually we ordered them a few days ago, when we ran out of our first batch), and they will be for sale in the store soon!  I'll post here and let everybody know when that happens.

Dorothy and I just returned from the rare days of actually "shopping" we allow into our lives any more and my coin was here.  Holding it and looking at it I have to say it feels like one of the true milestones in the history of TSP just occured.  Sis did a really amazing job with these.  Folks if you didn't get one in the first run do be ready to order some when she starts taking orders again.

Just got my coin in the mail, and my college roommate just sat googly eyed looking at how shiny it was. He loves the idea of the coin and even if gets a different one to fit his style it will still give me a chance to pull mine out and show it off. I can see already its a great intro to explaining what the podcast is to people (especially if they are chatty after a few drinks) and this coin I'm sure will pay for itself after a few challenges.

I buy them for several reasons:

1. They are a great token to share the word about Jack's show.

2. Challenge coins are a tradition steeped in history for many, many decades and there are tons of them out there which people often share and trade. I have several from geocaching. ( I was in the military but my group never developed a challenge coin.)

3. Ya know...in case I go to IHOP for a TSP meetup and get challenged! I don't want to have to buy everyone's breakfast!

4. They're just cool.

I'm not tryin' ta sell ya somethin ya don't want. I'm just answerin' the question.

 ;D

Ok thats cool. I will put these down in the "cool shiny thing category" nothin wrong with that I was just wondering.

THE CHALLENGE COINS ARE ONCE AGAIN AVAILABLE FOR PRE ORDER!!!!!!

I wanted to wait until I had a specific date for shipment before I put them back up on the site.  We have a confirmed date for shipping by the end of February.  Feel free to order at will!  But best order 'em most ricky-tick, because they sold out FAST last month!  ;D

Dear SW (uwetsi agehutsa) - You did an awesome job with the coins!  We got ours today and DH was so excited to open the package.  He keeps slapping it on the table and telling me I owe him a beer.  They are truly beautiful and we appreciate all the hard work you do for TSP in spite of all the other hard work you do and going to school.  Thanks! unitsi

I thought the way that works is that you can only challenge those who own challenge coins.

Mine is pretty. I like it alot.

I thought you can challenge any member of your group. In this case, the group would be TSP listeners.

They either have one or they don't. If they don't, they buy the beer.

 ;)

 ;D

(I'm not actually planning to challenge anyone, so...)

I love the concept of the challenge coin. Not having been in the military this is a new concept to me, but one I see a good deal of merit in. I received my 6 last week. Damn, they're heavier and bigger than I thought! My thought was to give one to each family member, attached to a chain that they would wear around the neck inside their clothing. Should any situation arise that help was needed, the coin could be produced outside the clothing to let me, or any TSP member know help was needed, without the BG knowing anything was up. No big display of "help needed", just a sign to let it be known the situation was not as it seemed. I'm still going to try this, but have also added the fact that I can wear it outside my clothing in public, after notifying the family. This would serve two purposes, 1. TSP members would know me as one of them and 2. Non TSP members would ask about it, giving me the opportunity to advance the cause. I carry one in my pocket too. I enjoy taking it out and spinning it on the bar, it's so heavy that it takes forever to stop and has quite a unique sound while doing so and always produces a lot of interesting responses. There is a helluva lot of people that think like us but think they are alone. I've been pleasantly surprised and as of yet had no negative responses. So, If you see a redneck cowboy, with a TSP challenge coin around the neck at your local IHOP, coffee bar, real bar, or AG store, come say hi, but if it's out on the side of the road, please ask if assistance is needed.
