What's making this one worse is that in addition to similar quantities as last time is that the snow is expected to be wet and heavy. Projected snowfall in Harrisburg, PA is sitting at 12-18 inches as of 9am this morning.

Yeppers, here we go again!

Here on the CT shoreline we are in for around 10-13 with a possibility of 18 if the storm tracks wrong.

Did my last minute preps today, Extra fuel and gas, got the chains on the backhoe, covered up my wood pile good and tight.

Wife stopped at wallyworld and picked up the customary bread and milk!

All and all were pretty much set, yards all cleaned up, chicken coop is well covered and all the rest of the preps are already in place, so its now just wait and see time.
Cant think of anything I might of forgotten,  any suggestions?

I am right on the line between 12"-18" and 20" plus.  All I know is we got about 4 " in the last 2 hours.

I'm in the 20"+ area.  We've received about 3" since it started at about 6:30 or so.

May everyone in the path of this storm be warm and safe.  We've had 1-2" so far but the worst isn't projected until tomorrow morning.

My wife traveled to Baltimore last week on business and was supposed to come back on Friday (12th).  Doesn't look like that's happening now.  She told me that she went to the grocery just before the first storm and people were getting pretty crazy.  She related that folks were taking food items out of each others carts or taking carts when folks backs were turned.  It's amazing how folks can turn ugly with just the threat of a storm.

Good luck out their folks!

Our grocery stores just got partially restocked.  We ran up to get some "nacho stuff" for the big kids.  I thought it would be a quick  in and out.  It was crazy.  No one taking stuff from carts, but it was intense.  The usual "after you, no you"  was certainly not to be found.

This past Summer, we moved from inside the Baltimore beltway to the country. (at least as far as MD goes)  During snowstorms in previous years, the stores were completely empty.  Up here in Harford County, there are some items sold out, but for the most part, the grocery stores are well stocked.  I guess the folks in this area are much better prepared than the folks where we used to live.

Maybe it isn't snow. It could be evil CO2 condensing in the atmosphere as a side effect of Global Warming.

On second thought, Al Gore is a deceptive prick that made a ton of money promoting a lie.

That sounds much more probable.

6-8 inches at the moment and falling at a pretty good clip.  The wind is also starting to pick up. Good for clearing the roof, but the trees are bending under the weight and wind.

I think that we have about 10" of snow this time.  The whiteout conditions are starting.

My property has a bunch of evergreen trees.  Over the course of the past 2 storms, we've lost 7 or 8 big branches.  Anyone know if this means that the trees are weakened and will need to come down, or is it just the weight of the 30"+ of snow on the branches.  (sorry it that sounds stupid, this is the first home with big trees that I've owned)

There's not much to say as far as the weather up here. There's a handful of inches on the ground with up to a foot on the way.

Now for my tuppence: Leave global warming and Al Gore out out of it. Every time it gets cold someone wants to point at UCS and say they are wrong. Instead look at the Medieval Climate Anomaly, the Little Ice Age, GISS data, NASA, the North American megadroughts during the Middle Ages correlating to the existing hydroclimate; in short the current variances do not match the historical median. This past decade was the warmest on record, but no one can palpably sense a collective rise in 0.36 degrees F so while the data supports it, it is not so drastic that we can 'feel' it. In fact if global warming was something palpable, the planet would be in such flux we'd be dead. So unless everyone disbelieving the Industrial Age having an adverse impact on the climate is prepared for the end of an Interglacial period and another (not exactly) Weichsel Glacial Stage, which in that case we're all dead anyway since no human life predates the Holocene, as it is the only other alternative in planetary climactic cyclical development I suggest we stay on topic and keep the 'global warming is a joke'/'global warming is real' commentary to existing threads. Thank you.

One more thing: Don't talk about it be about it. If you want to punch Al Gore go do it don't just sit there and talk about it, violence by proxy never counts.

It depends on the tree and where the break is, when it thaws, check the break and if it is close to the trunk, you may want to prune it. Odds are the cold and the winds are responsible, not the tree, if left unattended though, such breaks can kill a tree.

The breaks have all been fairly close to the trunk.  I plan on pruning the broken branches once the snow melts. (maybe in July, hehe)  I plan on getting a reputable tree surgeon in to take a look and give his professional opinion, but I was thinking that the extra weight and wind was probably the cause.

It's white out conditions now at Cherry Hill, I can't even see the far side of the parking  from where I live.  Luckily, I have some "early stage" preps(extra rice, beans, canned food/soup) I can live off of for mthe next day or 2. Wink

Start a big pot of Eternal Soup in a crockpot if you have it. Then you can eat as you please and it is always piping hot!
Of course you can also just take the crockpot and fill it with some spicy boozy concoction. Wink

Well I just waded in from outside.  There is a measured 17" on the back deck which is usually very close to the reported totals.  From what I hear the worst of the storm will, for us, will be from 12 noon to about 3pm with 1" to 3" of snow per hour possible.   From what I see they are right...it is really blowing out there.
