Earth Trainer - DIY Self watering container gardening
« on: February 23, 2010, 02:55:22 PM »
Found these free plans for building a self watering planter and thought I would share

Really cool design. I have seen other very similar designs using PVC buckets and what not, however these were the most comprehensive.

In particular I really like the cork float idea for keeping track of the water level, so simple and very ingenious method!

I'm going to give one a shot this year to grow some peppers and tomatoes

Yep, they work great.  One thing you need to make sure is that you do not crowd the peppers and tomatoes.  I made the mistake of putting 2 tomatoes and 3 peppers in each.  Stick to 1 tomato or 1 pepper in each.

Here's the page with the plans to the homemade self watering container that I used.
