Tired of Rice!
« on: December 21, 2008, 09:31:23 PM »
We have stocked up on enough beans and rice to choke 10 horses.  God bless my wife for reminded me in benefits of Couscous.  We use it alot more than rice or noodles and it is very versitile.  I just didn't think about it as a purchase for long term storage.

Some benefits of Couscous are:

1. Can buy bulk

2. Comes in several varieties

3. Cooks very fast (vs rice that takes alot of fuel and time)

3. Uses a fraction of the energy to cook.  Just bring water to boil, add couscous, put on lid, shut off flame, let sit for 5 mins, stir, eat.

4. Goes with anything.

Hope this helps folks add variety to thier supplies!

The family loves couscous. I've never found it in bulk though.

+1 Beserker! Great post!

I love couscous! Perhaps I can find a place that sells it in bulk. Our grocery store 'Ingles' does have it, but it is expensive and not what I would call 'bulk'. I have thought about storing this for the same reasons you mentioned, but I haven't been able to find a place where I can buy in bulk for the same amount as rice.

We found it at our Fred Myers grocery store.

Maybe call a restraurant and find out about suppliers?

Good luck.
