Caliber choice.

OK I'll be brief. I want to for ferrel hog hunting in southern Illinois.  Do I do .223 or .308? Suggestions?

Unless you would call it a varmint, I would not recommend using the 223.  Yes, they do make the 223 in 72ish grain and 80 grain variants, but I am of the belief that you want a little more, instead of a little less.  Hogs can get nasty if injured.  Put a 308 into them, and put 'em down.

All I knew is that we were i Pope County, it was a few years back and I do not recall the city where we geared up to go out. It was some guys ranch/farm that my father in law knew.

While 308 "would be nice", 223 has worked just fine for me.

20 ga slug works great. used a AR once will not use it again.
