That depends....can you be more specific??
"Non-suplus,milspec, select fire" part has me scratching my head a little.
If you're talking about a modern weapon it may be chambered for 308 anyway.

CETME MODELO B made 1960's, full auto, original Spanish gun, not century or remanufacuted parts in any way.  Got is as factory made, hasn't been fired since 1960, started shooting it 1992, has gone through about the most 1000 rounds of NATO, and 308 winchester ammo.  I reload using Lee reloading data but cut back 10% powder charge using lead 160 grain. Thank you

My firearm is an original Spanish CETME Modelo B in 7.62NATO.  Commercial .308 Winchester ammo and NATO ammo has been fired from this heirloom, but not more than a thousand rounds during the last 15 years that I have owned it.  My grandfather never shot this firearm from since when it was given to him in 1962.  ANyway I load 10% less powder when I reload so I guess I am playing it safe.  Thank you

You may even find that the 10% downloaded rounds are more accurate.
I believe that CETME has a 18" barrel ?? You shouldn't lose much other than muzzle blast.

Commercial .308 winchester is loaded to higher pressure than NATO spec 7.62x51, several thousand pounds more pressure. I want to say the difference is something like 5,000-8,000 pounds. That's not a huge amount, but it will accelerate wear somewhat. Chamber dimensions are slightly different as well.

I've fired commercial winchester and federal NATO spec 7.62x51 ammo, reloads, and standard commercial .308 through my FAL and M14. I've also fired surplus through them as well as standard bolt action rifles. Some surplus causes hard bolt lift in my bolt actions, for whatever reason.

That shows the pressure difference to be 12,000 psi.. I wonder if the last data I looked at had different pressure test methods for the two.

It looks like you got some good advice here but as the issue comes up a lot, I thought I'd share this guide that our team just put together showing how the .308 Win and 7.62x51 rounds are different - http://www.bulkammo.com/rifle/bulk-.308-win-ammo#info . (Granted, there are very, very small differences).

A long  long time ago CCI once said their Magnum rifle primers had the same cup thickness as their military primers. This was in reverence to the M1 Grand.
