Emergency Essentials
« on: December 20, 2010, 06:58:57 PM »
Not sure how anyone else feels, but I will tell you my experience.
I wanted to send my sister a 72 hour emergency kit out east.  She was going to be moving back to the midwest and would be alone on the road in December.  I looked at some kits through Amazon, but decided to use Emergency Essentials.  After all they do have a banner on the main website.  I had ordered from others and had some very excellent experiences.  So, I chose a kit that looked like it had everything a person might need should they have an episode.  Placed the order, entered my info, and sent my sis a text saying that a package was on the way to her house.  4 days later I had not received any confirmation that the kit had shipped.  I called to see if by chance it had, but I hadn't been sent an e-mail.  Their customer service agent informed me that a few items were on backorder and the kit wouldn't ship until the 21st.  I told her that that would not work because my sister was leaving on the 20th.  I asked what they had on the shelf that could ship today and be there by the 19th (a saturday).  She gave me a lessser priced unit as an option, but I chose a slightly higher priced unit.  I told her to ship and bill it because I still had 7 days.  Make this long story short, it didnt get there in time.  I got lots of insincere appologies, told it wasn't their fault (they only ship FEDEX ground no other options), it takes a long time to ship anything from Utah, they fulfilled their contract with me, etc...etc...etc.  I feel like I did more than what any customer should have to do to do business with them, my money was good enough to take, but when they were informed of the time constraints I was under, because they didn't tell me the original unit was backordered.  They still took the second order and didn't explain that there was no guarantee that the kit would be there in time.  Sorry this was long, but just be aware that if you need it in less than 10 days call check availabilily, and the time it will take for FEDEX ground snail mail to get it to you.  AZfter a frustrating call with a manager I got them to recall the kit and give me a credit.  I had to get pretty cranky with them.

I recently ordered some stuff from them. It did take quite along time for me to receive it.

I've only ordered mostly food items from them many time but not since they have had so many items on back order (about a month). I have always recieved my product in a timely manner and in good condition. I believe that with the recent surge of people looking for preparedness supplies, this company, as well as several others, may be overwhelmed. While that is no excuse for something going wrong (the customer is always right), I would be willing to give them a try if they can get thru this surge/rush. jmo

I know as well as anybody what kind of difficulties there can be with trying to fill orders and ship them.  I really think they could do better in the communication and listening areas of their customer service.  If either of those areas had been a little better the whole situation could have been avoided.

Jloch76, I'm sorry to hear about your experiences as of late.

I've dealt with EE on 4 or more and never had a problem with anything except their website (wouldn't accept AK during the order process).  I'd agree with Herbalpagan on this.  Not a good excuse, but I hope it's not a continuing problem!  It's unfortunate the they limit themselves to FedEx.

All in all, I have had very good experiences with them and hope this not a new SOP.

I have ordered several times from them and had no trouble.  Items ordered received and in a timely manner.
Sorry to hear about your problems.
I agree that so many preparedness companies are being overwhelmed with orders now.  More and more people are waking up and are trying to "get right".

I've used EE several times, the one time they messed up they gave me the wrong item, I called them, they said sorry, send me the correct item and told me to keep the item that was sent by mistake.

Sometimes I am willing to pay a little more for a particular item because I have had 3 successful orders through them. Customer service was good too. I would say you were unfortunate to have a bad experience. Everything I ever ordered was as expected and shipped in a timely manner.

Has anyone had problems with EE lately? I put a order in on 4/2 & they had everything I ordered according to their site. The money wasn't taken from my account so I called a few days later I had to leave a message & sent a email. I never got a call/email back. Kept calling & emailing & finally talked to someone a 7 days later. I added to my order & they said my buckets were back ordered but they would get them in a week or two. I called/emailed told them to cancel the buckets or sent the bigger ones & never heard back. My order was shipped on 4/22 & I should get it today & I'll see what they sent me. I don't know why they never called/emailed back. This was my fourth time ordering from them & all my orders have taken at least 10 days to ship. I don't know if its the stuff I order or if they're just slow. Anyone know why this is going on?

darksky, I've had good luck with them every time I've ordered... just received an order from them a few weeks ago. I'm sorry you're having difficulties, but I would say you might want to give them a call and wait until you get to talk to a person. Leaving a message or sending an email takes longer with lots of companies... (sad, but true).

I think everyone in the long term food selling business is under more stress than usual due to very high demand. I realize this isn't an excuse for poor customer service, but it happens. For example, I placed an order with a shelf reliance consultant on a party order not too long ago... she was somewhat slow in responding to me, didn't answer her phone or return phone calls... etc. Then, when the order arrived, there was an item on the order that was the wrong size. I emailed her to see if she would take care of it... days later and still absolutely no response from her. I finally called and waited the 20+ minutes (because of high call volume) to talk to shelf reliance myself. They were very nice and took care of the problem immediately.

In the defense of the consultant, I think she is busy beyond belief with parties and new consultants wanting to start selling, etc. But, I think the problem with demand outstripping the capabilities of the personnel may be something that we can expect for awhile if more folks start prepping.

It has been hit or miss for fast orders with me.  Sometimes my orders go thru quite fast other times not.

Even green status don't mean that they have the item in stock when the package out your order.  I am still waiting on a few items I ordered last month.  I think only one or two cans are still back ordered.  Not much - but still harder than it should keeping track of what I have ordered and what has failed to ship.

I have about 70% of the core items I would like to stock in depth - and filling that last 30% has been giving me nothing but fits.  I have placed the same sort of order with 3 different locations (not EE) and had those orders canceled, or placed on indeterminate back order status.

With all of the companies out of Utah shipping 10 times more product than they did last year, I'm sure there is way more pressure on FEDEX as well.  I think it's only realistic to expect delays getting anything preparedness related these days. Part of out prepping is going to need to include long lead times ....of course, that doesn't excuse poor customer service.

I placed 1 order with them and it took about 3-4 weeks to get my entire order.  I knew the stuff was back-ordered when I placed it, so I knew it would take a little while.  No problems with them, just had to be patient because of all the stuff on back-order.

I ordered some buckets last week and they are shipping today as the CSR told me today. I have ordered before and never had an issue. I agree with the comments above as they are shipping more.
More people are becoming "preppers" for various reasons. Earth quakes, meltdowns, 2012... etc.
I would expect this buisness to do well until after Jan 1st 2012. When we are all still here I bet we see ebay flooded like after ysk with people unloading the wares they are buying now.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I must have got spoiled with other companies that I have ordered from. I am use to looking on the web site & they have up to date information on their stock and with in a few minutes of someone ordering the last of something it will flash back ordered. If something does go back ordered then I get a email that it is & a approximate date it will be in. Its a automated email but it is notification & I'm not left wondering. I also split my orders up so that one is the stuff in stock and the other is the back order things. I know that order to shipping time is going to get longer with more people starting to panic/prep but a statement on the site about longer wait time to ship would be a good idea, other companies do it around the holidays.
As far as staying on the line till I can talk to someone, EE has a system that if they are overwhelmed with calls all you can do is leave a message.

It was the same with Shelf Reliance... once my call was dropped after I had been on hold for over 20 minutes... I just kept persisting and eventually spoke to a person.

As I've said earlier in this discussion, I've used EE with great success.  As they are way behind (as LvsChant indicated) I opted to use Emergency Preparedness for a shipment to my brother in CO and still got caught up in the slow shipping.  I've been on the phone with these folks and they too say they are being overwelmed and are getting the orders out just as fast as they get em in.  In my case, 2 buckets of premade meals (2months worth).   Hang in there, the'll get to you.

Good Luck!

LOL

I order from them periodically - large orders.  They have gone above and beyond to help me with an unusual shipping issue I have - real personal touch.  I appreciate it.  Of all of my orders, the only issue that I can say I had was on a large order I tossed in one of their $3-on-sale 100 hour or so lamp/candle things.  It leaked about 15 or 20% of the lamp oil out of the base and into the bag it was packed in.  Since they went above and beyond on the rest of the order, I never mentioned it to them because I did not want them to spend any $$ sending me another - it was not  that big of a deal.  Perhaps I should have let them know it did not ship well - but I just did not want to bother them.

We have ordered a few things without issue in the past. Just this month we ordered a few items. No shipping notice etc. No response from customer service. Done with those people for good. When I order something online I want a notice it has shipped. I expect a tracking number as well. I expect an answer when I inquire about such.
Wound up going directly to Kelly Kettle's website to get the kettle I want.
No word on the food we ordered from "EE".

Onto the "X List" for Emergency Essentials.

When I order from them I usually get an email with a tracking number when it ships. It may take a week or two depending on how busy they are and where my order falls in line.

They wrote me back and said they were too busy to let me know there was a problem with the credit card. So Im sitting here for a week waiting. I canceled that order and all other pending orders. Bought the Kelly Kettle from "Kelly kettle USA" had it in my hands in three days. I will also start buying all my long term food preps from Shelf Reliance. Costco also has some great deals on bulk long term. Now I see why TSP dropped Emergency Essentials. They are now non-essential

Yikes. I just ordered two cases of MRE's from EE. I have not had good luck lately with vendors.

Guess I will try Shelf Reliance.

Did everyone forget that the government is buying up largs stocks of foodstuffs? I'm sure all those who sell what we wish to buy are behind in filling our orders. (although the last time I ordered something, I got it in a timely manner.

I have had delays with all of the major players from time to time - and very good service from them to.
I like some of EE MRE's, which I use as fast on the road emergency food.   The strawberry shake was a good replacement meal when I flat out did not have time for my morning oatmeal.

I have not tried Shelf reliance MRE's - but the ones from EE were ok - OK for MRE's that is.
What I continue to go back to EE is supplemental items for my home first aide kit.
