Just Had A Little Earthquake Here
« on: January 30, 2009, 06:31:47 AM »
Here in western Washington state we just had a little quake.  I notice a volcano in Alaska is fixin' to erupt, which means we'll have some tremors.

It's 5:30 AM here and I thought one of my kids was jumping up and down.  Then the rumble.

I've had guns pointed at me and that's not too bad.  But I frickin' hate earthquakes.  We had a bad one in 2001 centered a few miles from my town and it left a bad impression on me.  Not in the damage and survival way.  In the "what's that rumbling?  Is stuff going to start flying around again?" way.

It was a small one.  When it's a big one you KNOW.  If I thought the kids were jumping around, as opposed to thinking the building was coming down, it's small.

But thanks.

Yep.  It was only a 4.5 but, hey, got me thinking.

The Seattle area is due for a big one in a few years.

I went through the '89 Loma Pieta quake and that really woke me up to just how insignificant I am compared to natural disasters ... The entire West Coast is due for a few big ones. Let's hope they don't show up for a few hundred more years.

I didn't feel the one today, but I also remember the one from 2001.  It was pretty eerie.

Ya it woke me up just as it was ending.  Weird sensation,  could figure out if I was shaking from a dream or if an earthquake occurred then I heard the showerhead dripping water into the tub for no reason and figure something must have just shaken the whole house.  Then my wife came back from exercising and asked if I felt the earthquake.

I suspect that is part of our Mt Redoubt rocking the Ring of Fire.  We shook up here to.
