Local bank ran out of money today....
« on: January 31, 2009, 09:35:26 PM »
That's unusual for a small town in Arkansas and I'm hoping it's a result of payday combined with tax refunds depleting their cash.  There was a line there and that's unusual for this area on any day.  Weekends are  usually very slow and this was before noon. This bank is a branch of a larger bank in a neighboring town.  It seems like they could have sent more cash by courier if they had it.  They advised customers to come back Monday.

This is not my bank but still I'm wishing I had cashed DH's check on Friday.  A little extra cash in small denominations should be in everyone's preps.

Did you guys have ice storms there?  Could that be the reason people want cash?

I was going to say maybe because of the ice storm. Quite a few establishments were taking cash only during the storm because the CC machines were down.

What city?

That sounds realistic.  Demand for cash went up b/c of the lack of power?  Makes sense.  More reason that you should keep cash on hand for emergencies.  =-]

The ice storm did very little damage here and we never lost power.  We were in a small pocket that stayed just above freezing during most of it while those just north of us and east of us got hit pretty bad.  We live in the mountains and we often have fronts seem to split and go around either side of the range we are in.  It's been business as usual here.

Well, if it's not an ice storm maybe the increased demand for cash is from .... Superbowl bets.   :D
