« on: June 14, 2011, 12:32:32 PM »
We are planning a trip across country. I am looking for a website that will help me plan travel distances, campgrounds, points of interest that type of thing. anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you,

Well, http://www.mapquest.com/ will help with routes and provide distances. Other than checking the websites for the cities and states you will be traveling through, I don't have a suggestion about the campgrounds and points of interest.

I use a program called Tyre that allows you to chart out locations and then save them in a format you can export to a GPS. It works thru Google Maps and shows points of interest. It is free.
I used it to plan our Ireland trip.
It works for me, your mileage may vary. Check it out.

Thanks to you both. I will look into Tyre. I have mapped my trip already. It is hard to find distances to stop for the day. I am traveling with two kids under 4, so I need to take it easy.

For a car trip with kids, I suggest you look for some kind of recorded books to play during the trip. Yours are younger than mine, but we drove over 2400 miles on a trip last September and the Narnina discs saved the day. Obviously it would need to be age appropriate, but we didn't even have one, "Are we there, yet?" the whole way.

Definitely, We already have the portable DVD, and Pandora ready, but that is a good idea. I will look into what is availible for the young ones.
Thanks again,
