Auntie Jorja's Magic Ant Spooge
« on: August 15, 2011, 07:27:47 PM »
Ants fascinate me; I can sit and watch them for hours but prefer not to have them in my house or all over my hummingbird feeders. The hummers didn't seem to mind, but my DH was annoyed and told me to buy some nasty, poison ant spray (ain't gonna happen). Brainstorm -

Got myself a big glob of Vaseline and mixed in a healthy dose of my home-ground, killer-hot chili powder and spread the spooge about an inch wide all around the nails I hang my feeders from. It works! The little bastages won't cross it and now I don't have them running up my arm as I bring the empty feeders inside to refill.

My porch posts are rough timber so it hardly shows, prolly wouldn't look so hot on a nice painted-white post, but IMO it's better than spraying the Ortho crap, not to mention a ton cheaper.
