And new (to me) inverter.

It has a built in 100a battery charger for when you are hooked up to shore power and an automatic switch if shore power it dropped to transfer to battery power. Way nice unit.

if anything hits it.. it is also hitting the solar panels.

In fact it will hit the panels first (unless I back up into a cliff face or something)

I don't do much backing up with it as you might imagine. Fun enough going forward. :)

Next on the list in no particular order:

Get new weather seals for the cab (need to order)
Replace windshields (need to order these)
Replace front window on van (actually have that one sitting in the office waiting for me to do it)
Van area lighting (LED)
LED lighting inside the van body
Finish repainting (spray paint for now)
Get more batteries in the van installed and switched for use with the inverter
Plumb up spare fuel tank
Mount ham radio antennas (in a way that won't get them killed by a branch or low bridge)
Charge controller for the solar panels (24v)
Find out why the van heater is not getting fuel

Wish list:

Winch
Upgraded tires
Some type of waste motor oil filtering (BSutter is working on this and I like what he is doing)
LED tail and marker lights
A/C
Rhino line the floor boards in the cab
Back-up camera
Fix roof on the cab (either body shop or get a new one)

I'm sure there is more.. I just can't think of it at the moment.

Lookie what showed up today

Xantrex C35 Charge controller for the panels on the roof. I wired them up to be 24v instead of 12 so I can tie them into the truck system if need be.

I think it would be cool to have a hatch between the cab and the box (van, as you call it).  This might take some work, but I think it would have several advantages.

It would probably make the lovely Mrs and the kiddos feel better if you can all talk to each other (without radios) and see each other.  You can switch places between front and back while on the move.  You can check on them, make sure everyone is okay.  Perhaps even take care of things on the move if nature calls.  And of course, if you wake up to the zombies knocking on the door, you can hop to the driver's seat without the need to fight your way to the cab.  ;D

If anyone's interested just saw 2 x M109s in what I would think is decent condition (didn't see them running but was told they run) in Central Oklahoma for $6000-6500.  Not sure if that's a good price or not but they looked clean.

great idea. Not sure how to make it work and not cost a fortune.

CM, check out http://www.accordionboot.com/

I used this to connect the bed and cab of a pickup very successfully (no leaks) back in my big stereo days.  As close as the box and cab are on the 109s I bet the extra wide one would make the connection.  I would guess you would have to change some of the bracing in the cab and maybe the box to make a crawl space under the box's window and probably under the cab/hard-top joint.  It wouldn't be walk-through - more like crawl-through.

I thought about doing the same thing only going up through the roof of the cab into the overhang on the box.

Cleaned up the charge controller

And here is what I am feeding the power into

Now I either need to improve my carpentry skills or find someone local to make a bench to cover that area up.

I am leaning that way too. It would be nice to not have to worry about having a sunny day for a couple days and still be able to run the fridge to keep food.

Next up is to get a battery cut off switch so I can choose to run the inverter off of either the truck batteries or the solar set up.

When I was running two batteries in my truck, I used a $20 battery solenoid so I didn't have to run heavy gauge wire to the dash, but could switch it on and off at my leisure for charging or emergency starting.
