I ground up stored wheat berries to make pizza.  I have found out, some time ago now, that you cannot stack buckets with gamma lids 3 high, at least not with heavy food like this, as the lids break. So, I have been eating down to reduce the height of my pantry staple stacks.  Wheat berries and oats will now be only 2 buckets high, and I will keep less storage of those in the pantry.  This last pizza night emptied a red wheat berry bucket, and I now could finally pour in the wheat from the bottom bucket with the broken lid, it has taken a long time to finish that top bucket off !  I still have soft wheat berries and oats with 3 in the stack, oat bucket is reducing, but the soft wheat berries haven't been used as much as they should, we have been using store bought white flour.....

I guess a better, and cheaper, plan for others to think about would be if you want your stacks 3 buckets high; have the bottom 2 buckets with regular hammer on lids, only have a gamma lid on the top bucket, and use a lid wrench to open the next bucket and pour into the gamma lidded bucket when you rotate ! This still leaves the easy open, color coded lids on top for every day use.

M Momma, cut some 12"x12" plywood (1/4) or osb board and lay between your buckets. Spread the weight of the upper buckets.

Pulled out a can each of Augason potato shreds and dried red and green bell peppers. Made potatoes O'Brien with them. Bell peppers didn't add anything but visual appeal but they are necessary to the dish.

I use a bit of lemon pepper instead of garlic salt for a dish close to this with a bit of rice.

  Dog and I are making do with some garbanzo beans,long beans,and Jack Daniel's pulled chicken...she eats it when she gets hungry....I think it is a pretty good protein.

Last couple days we've had white potatoes, pork and tomato sauce with wieners added to make beanie wienes, rehydrated potato shreds with dried bell pepper and dried onion, and chicken thighs cooked on our new Lodge cast iron grill pan. That might be considered a prep also as it can be used over a campfire. Bloody thing is heavy too.  ::)

Since I was under the house, I pulled up the "treat" bucket I had there, it should have been rotated before now.  I had 2 bags just in store packaging of natural peanut m&m type candy, one tasted rancid, the other I snacked on.

I would have thought the hard candy shell would have sealed better for long term storage.

Yea. I bought a bag of the wrappings/husks last year or the year before, and thats as far as I've got.
Have some friends that know how to make theirs, but haven't gotten with them yet to learn.

Yeah, you grow corn. Check on using the husks green or drying them. Of course they might be less expensive in your area. Google can be your friend on this.

I went to a fun vintage/sporting rifle match with our provincial rifle association yesterday.

Shooting my Ruger Gunsite Scout at 100-300m was fun and very revealing. The rifle shot great, but I need to better figure out how to quickly load the magazine and react if it doesn't seat firmly. I also need to pay attention to cycling the action vigorously, particularly in stances where that doesn't come naturally. Otherwise I scored well and should do fine with over 90% of the deer that come my way, and with practice will be better able to respond to that 10% that are further away.

I finished reading LCol David Grossman's "On Combat" the other day and will probably pick up another book about character formation, performance under stress, history or other world trends.

The weekend allowed for some networking with friends, including some good work contacts and others who are interested in survivalism related topics.

Make a PUMPKIN PIE with the cushaw and it will look and taste GREAT. ( PS  I use almonds in place of pecans for a real treat)

More forging....it's way too hot most of the day to forge, so I only do it for couple hours a day. Today's list is a tomahawk (complete), mocotaugan blade (complete), 6 fish hooks (to be filed and continued) and a boucheron knife blade (to be ground and then heat treated). All for reenactment sales, but all of these items are useful and it's good to have some experience making them.
Received my wool fabric and started working on my 15th century outer shirt. As I said above, clothes like this will be golden in any long term scenario. Meanwhile, adding another historical era to my interest brings me more business opportunities and thus helps to fuel my self-employment. Not to mention having fun, finding friends and training melee combat (not sure how this works elsewhere, but here we really go quite medieval on each other. Our weapons are dull, but other than that, they're still made of steel).

Planning to harvest black rowanberries over the weekend and dry them in the oven. These berries taste so bad that they must be insanely good for health (which they really seem to be, so I daily eat a handful of the dried ones in the winter). Drying them in low heat oven is so far the best way to make them taste somewhat good.
Picked some plantain again, time to make another batch of ointment.

Yeah any winter type squash may be substituted for pumpkin and that is what this was. It take talent, practice and skill to get a scratch made crust to turn out pretty IMO. I have all but three of those.  ;D
