Oil price crashes 30% as markets open

Oil prices crashed as much as 30 per cent within seconds of the market opening on Sunday evening after Saudi Arabia launched an aggressive price war over the weekend, driving crude to its lowest level in four years.

The sell-off followed the collapse of Saudi Arabia’s oil-cutting alliance on Friday, with Russia refusing to make deeper cuts to output despite the sharp hit to demand from the coronavirus outbreak. Saudi Arabia’s response — to raise output and offer its crude at unprecedented price discounts — came despite a weakening economy and the threat of coronavirus becoming a global pandemic sapping demand for transport and fuel.

Gassed up the car this morning. Price hasn't changed in the last 3 days but I did hit the 10 cents/gallon off at Kroger. Must have gotten a lot of prescriptions filled, I don't spend that much per month on groceries at Kroger.

It generally takes 3 to 6 weeks for oil price drops to manifest in gasoline price.

North up I-35 from Austin. Wouldn't want our lawmakers to pay too much for gas. Just a smartazz here don't know what the usual price is in the area.

So I cruise over to the PO to mail some packages. Have heard rumors our little convenience/gas store will be opening, bought by people that own the one 15m from here.
Low and behold, I see it's open *after* I'm driving off. (PO in same building) And the gas sign is lit up. $1.87  :excited:

Sending the wife back to fill the cans up, nose around in the store to see what they are carrying besides candy bars.  ;D

Oh my.  We just broke below $20 oil.  Remember when it was $150?  I feel bad for Canada, they will quickly be in major recession.  Going to be tough.  In US we could see $1 gas on average.

Still 1.87-1.89 around here, except yesterday when I hit Aldi's north of us about an hour, most signs there was still in the 2.04 range.
Apparently the tanks haven't emptied out here yet.

Honey gave a go for Operation Petrol-Buck.  Yes, it was 24 cents early but given the media pushing a panic she thought we should squeeze the trigger on backup backups.

I discovered 2 more 5gal cans I set aside. Older metal cans with no spout. Tough to pour.
Gas keeps dropping, I'll fill them anyways. I have funnels.....

Media pushing a gas panic? Haven't noticed here but I don't pay a lot of attention to most of what the media says.

Had some of those late 70's. Mil surplus, wish I know what happened to them.
