May be a good time to fill up.  We normally see ~10 to 20 cent rise when a hurricane hits.

I find that it costs no more to keep fuel tanks full than it costs to keep them empty and I always feel ,and am,better prepared when supplies are full.

$2.96/gal this morning at Sam's Club, Robinson, PA (just west of Pittsburgh) and that is about 10-20 cents lower than other places.  :(
Tom Wolfe (our governor) is kind of like Will Rogers, except Gov. Wolfe has never met a tax that he didn't like. I have heard that we have the highest gas tax in the country, and seeing the prices on this thread, I have to believe it.  >:(

Pennsylvania has the highest gas taxes in the country, even higher than California when cap and trade is included.  It is the unique fuel blend on top of taxes which drives California prices higher.  And California is typically cheaper than Hawaii because of transportation costs.  If winter is bad Alaska will typically take the crown for a couple months too.

Handy reference below showing taxes by state.

Note that this doesnt include the hidden state regulations driving up prices like fuel blends.  Few people realize how the fuel blends impact price.  And this impacts everyone not just California.  For example, while the ethonal blends in midwest typically lower pump price (it actually raised prices when oil crashed) it provides lower miles per gallon which makes it a net added cost.  A few years ago there was a refinery fire which shut down production of one blend which raised pump pricescas much as 30 cents in states which used it.  A lot of lobbying by different ingredient manufacturers ensures favorable blends that use their products.  It is a form of geographic monopoly.

Here is the list of current prices by state.  Definitely relationship between taxesxand price but you can see other effects (like Alaska with low taxes still being near top in prices: https://gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/

I stand corrected, not the highest gas tax, just some of the highest prices,

And yet, CA raised the gas taxes significantly since that chart was made.  So much so that we will be voting on wether to repeal the latest set.

We dont have a unique fuel blend for diesel, and yet that is higher priced a the pump than gasoline.  I drive a diesel Jetta.

Quote
Plus, California is one of just six states that charge a sales tax on gasoline. The Golden State’s 2.25 percent sales tax fluctuates according to the price of gasoline and Walczak estimated that it works out to about 9 cents a gallon at current prices.

So by 2019, when you take all taxes and fees together in California, you get:

47.3 cents in primary and secondary excise taxes
2 cents on the underground storage tank fee
9 cents on the sales tax (as per the Tax Foundation estimate)

Total: 58.3 cents per gallon in total taxes and fees on gasoline in California

So, this would put our tax at something like 1 cent under pennsylvania

Quote
Diesel drivers have been hit even harder.

The diesel excise tax will go up 20 cents a gallon and the diesel sales tax will see a 5.75 percent increase.

Coming up to vote on in Missouri, is a new gas tax. We haven't had a gas tax raise since 96 I think.
Anyways, for the next four years, they want to add 2.5 tax to our gas each year, for the next four years.
So in 4 years, if it passes, our gas will be .10 higher each gallon.

And, only 30% of that tax will be for roads. 70% of that tax will be grabbed up by the State Highway Patrol.
So, I'm not in favor of it. I think it should all go for road improvements

Yikes!  That is a huge increase.  How did that get passed?  And why wasnt it covered in national news?

It was passed by the legislature, not voted on by the people, to have more money for roads.  They did admit that the previous gas tax had not all been going to roads and had been siphoned off to the general fund, but we have been assured that this time is different.  We will now have the opportunity to vote on it this November, but it is hard to convince people to repeal as they threaten to stop fixing the roads, so we will see.  As far as National news, I just watched 1984 again, national news is all about emotional "release", rather like the groups of citizens in 1984 gathered in front of the screen and screaming in outrage on cue. Likely our gas tax increase is not sexy enough and does not trigger the people the way the media needs.....

Hard to tell around here. Seems to vary $2.52 to $2.75 with any sort of card. Cash price (green money) is up to $0.25 less.

With one exception those around me have only been doing it for a year or two. Those are on heavily travel intersections, difficult to get out of the lot. Even when I was working and carried an embarrassingly large amount of cash I still used a card. The places I bought gas very early in the mornings didn't have an attendant and I didn't want to be flashing the cash that time of day at those places anyway. Just carry an embarrassingly small amount of cash now if any.

Noticed a place this morning that had a 40 cent difference between cash and card price. Lowest cash price in the area and highest card price in the area.  ??? One of the two busiest intersections in the area that you can buy gas on, no gas on the third busy intersection but there is a MickeyD's, a large doctor's office and a large emergency clinic on the intersection. Wonder if there is some connection.  ;)
