RPZ - Agreed,.. Even over time it gets a bit gummy. The roll that I was using was difficult to unroll and use. And not to mention, over time will pull skin off your fingers and can cause a infection risk.
IceDeep - Yea, lots of site resources ignored. But they didn't have other tools like a knife or a pot. I agree that to not boil water is a risk - a big one. I would be concerned with the leaching of chemicals from the duct tape into the water. However I was listening to NPR this week about the BPA scare - and that the human body inactivates much of what reaches the system... You'd have to ingest quite a bit of BPA AND be a child to reach near lethal amounts.. IIRC ...
Alpha Mike - You are right - Survival shows are the hit these days...
I guess I saw it as a reason to have duct tape in the kit(s),.. not so much as to replace ANYTHING,.. still need want that pot or bottle.. BUT - maybe for a short period you can improvise with it.
