Does anyone have any experience with judo it looks like a good one for me.  I am short and stocky and it looks like my wife might be able to do it.  She is kinda wimpy and i cant get her to carry a firearm so I though she should take something.  Also if there are any other schools i should check out let me know.

Judo is a great martial art for self defense.  It teaches you to use your opponents momentum against them.  My family has a very proud and long history in Judo, and I've seen my 100 lbs. female cousin put a male cousin from my dad's side (who out weighed her by a good 60 lbs.) on the ground in no seconds flat.

Judo is good.  It's a lot more effective than chop-socky styles or "military special forces" styles that don't include a sparring component.  Sparring is essential.  Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

It's a lot cheaper than Brazilian (Gracie) Jiu-Jistu, and usually more family oriented.  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is actually derived from pre-WWII Judo.

I run a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu club.  I admit Judo is better for many people.

Be sure to find a Judo school that is not totally tournament oriented.  Many are.  Find one with a good balance of sport and self-defense.  Both aspects are necessary to develop skills you can apply in real-time.
