Garmin Nuvi 760: Out of warranty
The Garmin Nuvi comes with the unit, the windshield / dash mount and the automotive power adapter.  We have had the unit now nearly 3 years and it has seen mild general use.  It sits in only one vehicle and has helped us find out way around from time to time.  We bought it not because of the name, but because of the features.  We researched several units, both cross Vendor and serious.

While the suction cup 'fails' from time to time most do,.. so the unit has landed in the seat from time to time and at random.  But the power adapter has been plugged into the power socket nearly 94% of the time during our ownership.  But this leads to a odd thing that the plastic collar holding the contact nib and the fuse in failed.  We unplugged the unit to store in the glove box and the fuse, nib and collar shot across the car.

We were able to retrieve all the parts and re-assemble it, but it seemed odd that it would fail as it did.  This happened twice more with me telling my wife that she needed to email Garmin about it.

Fast forward to last week when I needed the unit for a jaunt up to meet a fellow TSPer, the plastic failed for the 3 and final time.. the threads are gone and the only way to use the adapter now is to glue it, or I did find a $15 repair kit on ebay... A new one is only $28, so it doesn't directly make sense to go that route.  I contacted Customer Service about it -

I got this email last night:

I suppose in this case, I am being compensated for the endorsement.  But they are standing behind, beside and in front of their product.  This type of support will get another Garmin product in my household.  They have a great product, and great customer service..

Thanks for the read -

I had a similar experience with them. I have a GPSMap 60Cx handheld unit. It went flying across the car once when I had it sitting on the dash. When it landed it broke the tab that holds the battery cover closed. I emailed them asking to buy a replacement door and they said I could not sell me one, but they would be happy to send me one for free.
Great customer service.

I absolutely love Garmin's customer service.  Same story here with missing one piece of a mounting accessory and Garmin mailing it to me within a week of receiving my email.  As I told the rep who assisted me, they have earned an ardent supporter and loyal customer in me.
