« on: May 28, 2012, 06:37:33 PM »
Hey all.  I'm getting my first MP3 player soon, and am looking for advice on some good workout music.

Here are some songs I'm looking at adding to the music list.
Does anyone have any suggestions for music that might fit in?
I'm also looking for good Christian music that has a good workout rhythm.

General Mix
Blue (Da Ba De) - Eiffel 65
Another One Bites The Dust - Queen
Mortal Kombat Soundtrack
Eye Of The Tiger - Survivor
Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins
Kryptonite - Three Doors Down
Pretty Girls Make Me Nervous
Pretty Girl - Sugarcult
Kung Fu Fighting - Carl Douglas
Say It Right Lyrics - Nelly Furtado
Not Gonna Get Us - T.A.T.U.

Songs from teh internetz (and some from tv)
Caramel Dansen (Speedy Cake Remix)
Nyan-cat (1 min mix)
"There She Is" sound-track
Pandas Must Die
Love Love Shine
Kim Possible Theme Song
Various high energy Ranma 1/2 intro songs

Thanks guys.
A lot of these were pretty dark.  x.x

I think I'll be adding the following to my list, which you pointed out:

All Around Me -  Flyleaf

Mississippi Queen - Strong possibility here.  Good beat, good riffs, good energy, simple lyrics, the only objectionable content is made in allusion, and there are other interpretations.  I have a fever, and the only cure is more time-keeping cow-bell.

Broken Home - I can seriously sympathize with this one, and it's got energy (negative though it be), but there are some single parents in my Kickboxing class, so this one isn't going in.

Man On The Silver Mountain by Rainbow - I really like this one, definitely going in the play list.  Good energy, clearly sung if somewhat crpytic lyrics, over-all positive.

I've also been searching my old hard-drives or reminders of music I liked, and here's some more I've found that I'm adding:

Yea some of my music is pretty dark and sometimes heavy. That were the lighter ones from my workout list. This thread is cool, I added a few songs radiomacgyver listed.

^_^ I appreciate your showing me the lighter side of your mix.  And I'm glad you like the thread.

Hopefully lots of people wind up with a more flexible play-list to help them push it out.

Absolutely!

I would also have to include any Iron Maiden from that period as well.

The Seeker -  The Who

Perfect Strangers  -  Deep Purple

Pardon Me ,  Wish you were here ,  and  Nice to Know you   -  Incubus

Gimme some water  -  Eddie Money

What's my age again?  -  Blink 182

Float On  -  Modest Mouse

The Passenger  -  Iggy Pop

Walking on a thin line  -  Huey Lewis and the news

Mother  -  Danzig

Wild Flower  -  The Cult

I guess it's obvious that I like the older stuff....        :P

Anything by the metal band Hatebreed would be my music of choice to give me that extra push through a tough work out.  I also like to listen to orchestral movie and tv soundtracks.  The tv show Lost had alot of really suspenseful music that makes you feel like you are in the scene of the show.  Its hard to really explain unless you try listening to it while going for a run.  Especially when its getting dark outside.

For the high-intensity and weight routines, I tend to favor the newer metal.  Here's the first 5 tracks from my workout playlist.

Mudvayne - Determined
Dope - Die/Boom/Bang/Burn/Fuck (and it's respective individual songs)
Dope - Dirty World
Linkin Park - Place For My Head
Godsmack - I F**king Hate You

If you want some more Christian metal, look up Demon Hunter.  Here's their song "Collapsing".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SOEoD7H9RQ

I noticed you have some more "anime" style music in there too.  I assume Video Game music might not be out of the question here either.  A friend of mine does his kettlebell routines to "Dohvakin" from Skyrim, and I am a huge fan of a lot of the FF VII: Crisis Core soundtrack for amping me up for a hard workout.

For example:

And screaming along USMC or Army Ranger cadences as I'm running and rucking gets the blood pumping.

If you're in to interval training, but can't keep track of when it's time to change (like me), may I suggest the Podrunner; Intervals podcast;

or on iTunes;

My favorites for most things. Some to get your blood moving, some to slow you down, and some to keep you going. Just don't burn out the treadmill with listening to Pipeline.

Pipeline

The Girl From Ipanema

The Impossible Dream

Moon River

Everybody Love Somebody Sometime

Brandy (You’re A Find Girl)

Pretty Woman

The Devil Went Down To Georgia

And of course, anything by Elvis.

Just my opinion.

Clutch has several good workout songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kx6FV2qR2TY and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz_-o7wxLHM are good starters

Saor Patrol is also excellent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uO3PiNyRXhM

Then there is always the Black Keys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_PrT25o8Vs

Try throwing this one on when you're running and accelerate with the music, it can turn into a good speed workout: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1ryJDVuZ6k

For the darker side, Deadbolt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npUacQgC3Xw

Try Lindsey Stirling.  Sort of techno-violin, all instrumental.  Very cool!
