The Incline
« on: August 26, 2012, 10:40:00 AM »
My unit walked up "The Incline" for PT Friday.

It is one mile of horizontal distance, but ascends 2000 feet in that time. It was a cog railway line that shut down in the 90s and now people walk up it.  The railroad ties form the steps and holy crud is it a workout!

In particular you have to love how it gets steeper as you go.  Additionally 3/4 of the way up there is a false crest.  You think you are there and you get to that crest and realize you have more to do including a significant steep climb yet.  A spirit crusher.

Great training.  I hurt in places I didnt know I had.  I have never climbed so much my abs hurt  ;D  its been two days and I am still feeling it.

I climbed it when I was in high school and in pretty good shape from football. It still kicked my but! I was getting passed by old men with their hiking sticks.

Did you go down bar trail or back down the way you came?

I took the barr trail down, I think trying to walk down The Incline would have killed me.
