Bulk Ammo at Academy Sports and Outdoors

I ran across this today and found it...intersting.

http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_616354_-1?N=858982010

12,500 rounds of 5.56 NATO in a 30 gallon, 350 lb barrel.  :o

Absolutely, but Santa is gonna have a hell of a backache after bringing it down the chimney.  ;)

One down side - it's green tip ammo - so no shooting at metal.
Second down side - it's 40 cents a round.

The upside?  With the max order of 2, you are on your way to a nice ammo fort.

A word from our sponsors (with a better price ;) - http://www.bulkammo.com/1000-rounds-of-223-ammo-by-pmc-55gr-fmjbt  - 33.5 cents + shipping

What is green tip ammo?

The NATO standard, NATO symbol, M855 round is intended for use against light matériel targets and personnel, but not vehicles. Identified by a green tip, the 62 grain projectile is constructed of a lead alloy core topped by a steel penetrator, the whole contained within a gilding (copper alloy) metal jacket. The primer and case are waterproof. (See representative cartridge drawing.) Despite the round's penetration abilities, BATF has specifically exempted it from the AP ban.

Well, this is a more comparable product and the price isn't that much different. 40 cents vs. 39.5 cents. (39 cents from bulkammo if you buy two.)

I am not recommending this. I just thought a 350 lb. container is well, a bit much.

<rolls eyes>

Puh-leeze!

"A bit much?"  So you'd also probably say that this is a bit much?  (20mm magazine fed rifle)

Or that this was too much?

How are you supposed to fill all those magazines and have them ready for the zombies without "too much" ammunition?  I mean really?  It's hard enough explaining to my wife why we need a quad-fifty trailer without going through the whole, "well we also need about a million rounds of ammo to be set".

The only thing I would add about the 350lb. ammo deal, is at that price they should at least throw in a hand truck/dolly.

Oh, its not too much ammo. I just don't have a handy way to get a 350lb barrel out of the back of the truck.  :o

Too much ammo is in there with too much money. It just can't happen.

I liked that too. It's an old marketing ploy. That way very few folks buy just one.  ;)

I'm having visions of 12,500 boxed primer pockets to ream after I get back from the chiropractor.

I've not purchased any bulk lately - is $400 per thousand a good deal now? Seems high.

My local Academy has M855 for $7.99 for 20 rounds (I just checked). If my math holds, that is $399.50 per thousand.

You don't get a deal for buying 12,500 rounds? Seems odd.

Right now it is because of the ammo run that is going on. Prices going up almost daily if you can even find the stuff.

Bulk ammo price is now 599.95/1000.  I bought some from a local store closeby cheaper than that, but it was the about the last they had.  This ammo run is really spooky.
