The process for constitutional amendments is a long one. It won't happen overnight. The republicans still have control of the house and the senate is very close to 50/50. I don't think I'd rush out and sell anytime soon. Pay attention and have your finger on the trigger so-to-speak. But I don't think the time is here yet.

On the other hand I wouldn't rush out and buy anything in the next couple years till we know how this will play out. I'm kinda thrown how many people are. What's the thought process here? If they ban them I want to be a felon too?!?!

You can not dominate a lawful moral man. So criminalize the behaviour (or guns) and you make the lawful man a criminal and then can dominate them.

I'm young.  Full of piss and vinegar.  Strong-willed.  Not yet jaded enough to roll over like a good dog.  I can say one thing.  If "they" ever want to try a mass confiscation, well . . .

I'm old, tired and beat up. They can have them when they take them, not before. Talking with my favorite gun shop they said that they sold and will deliver by today 25K in guns and ammo sold the first week after elections. There's either going to be a whole bunch of boating/truck accidents or something else will happen if they try.

1. Unlikely that the House of Representatives would pass a new gun law or renew the "assault weapon ban" because it would be political suicide -- but it might happen now, or in two years with new House members.

1a.  IF such a law was passed, it would go to the Supreme Court and be found unconstitutional.

2. The UN treaty on gun control would be unlikely to pass the Senate with a 2/3 majority because it would be political suicide -- but it MIGHT pass now, or in two years with new Senators.

2a. IF such a treaty was passed, it would go to the Supreme Court and be found unconstitutional.

3.  The President could issue an Executive Order during a "state of emergency".

3a.  IF such an Executive Order was issued, it would go to the Supreme Court and be found unconstitutional. (Not in time to prevent confiscation, but eventually)

4.  Unfortunately, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court recently issued his opinion: anything that the President wants to be "constitutional", IS "constitutional", even a Federal Law saying that the government can make you buy products from private businesses -- like health insurance companies.

This Forum is about self reliance.  The government of the United States is "we the people".  "We the people" declared gun confiscation to be illegal on April 19, 1775.  That decision still stands, only because that same "jury" still has the final say in the matter -- unless we give it up by our own action/inaction.

Keep you guns somewhere safe.  Continue to prepare for good times and bad times, both will come eventually.

Obama is more likely to replace the conservative Supreme Court justices than the liberal ones, and he has the Senate to confirm them. Too many decisions our way have been 5-4 decisions. One new justice reverses the outcome.

• There are a lot of gun owners who worked hard to put President Bush into office, and there are a lot of gun owners who felt betrayed by him, because he chose his powerful friends in the gun lobby over the police officers and families he promised to protect.
• Bush said if Congress would vote to extend the ban on assault weapons, that he’d sign the legislation, but he did nothing to encourage Congress to extend it.
• Bush called for tougher enforcement of gun laws
• Bush wanted a ban on automatic weapons & high-capacity ammunition clips
• Bush wanted to change the legal age of buying a gun from 18-21.
• Bush ban large ammunition clips.
• Ford asked Congress to ban the manufacture and sale of  "Saturday night specials."
• Nixon said unless we adopt and enforce strict gun control laws--ones much tougher than the Brady Bill--we will never succeed in stemming the violence spawned by the drug trade.

None of these guys is an all-but-declared socialist with what may be the strongest media support in history who is riding on the wave of a shooting event that left 20 elementary-school children dead. That's the difference this time.

I don't think Feinstein will get everything she wants, I don't think McCarthy will get everything she wants. I do think they'll get something, and that what they'll get will be detrimental to us.
