Makes my mouth water!  Thanks for the post, I'm always looking for new cooking ideas to try on camping trips.

Problem here in the States will be getting the right cooking cans.  Are those olive oil cans in the pics?  I wonder if old heating ductwork could be scrubbed well enough to be considered food grade for this application.

Back in my Army days my top (prior green beret) showed us how to do this, some one in our squad asked about ac duct work and he explained safer to use food grade tin cans as the duct work would have been galvanized and the off gassing of the galvanizing process could make you sick or dead.

The tin cans are still used in the food industry and can be had for the asking at almost any restaurant.

There made of tin, the same material as in soup cans and such.

indded same material but larger (and they have a liner enameled too.

You can find these (around here) as olive oil cans (with a tap on one corber) and as Feta or pickles containers that have a 8 inch wide opening that closes with a tin lid.

Yep, figured there'd be a problem with non-food grade sheet metal.  Thanks for the restaurant idea.

If you have a Business Costco Center near you, you can try there...Lots of restaurant size oil cans... I think I have something that will work, but is round instead of square...

Tin cans melt in fires. This will only work a few times and the cans will be worthless.

Better to use the cans in other ways.

You could build one from quality steel, would last you a lot longer and isn´t really that much work to build one:-) Great idea though!

If you set the can on its side, I wonder if you could fit an oven rack in it.
