The cent and nickel gone in 2013

Somehow I think there would be more public notice due to sales and other types of taxes.  The states will have to change taxes on all sorts of stuff in order to comply with the end of pennies and nickels.

I wouldn't be surprised its not like pennies matter

They would still have cents in the electronic currency just probly not mint anymore pennies nickels. They said phase out not confiscate

I took my jar of post 84 pennies to the bank.
Thirteen dollars, It paid for my part of Thanksgiving dinner.
Pennies still matter to me.

I have been told that you cannot order bags of pennies from the mint anymore. They will now sell new pennies to individuals anymore. This person told me that last year you could buy bnags of new pennies straight from the mint. I would not be suprized by a penny phase out, but I personally think all prices will be rounded up.

The US mint changed their policy a while back no longer sells its bulk coins to the public directly.  They are still selling the bulk coins like pennies etc.,  they are sell them to dealers only (cost saving measure.)   

Every few years, the topic of phasing out the penny comes and goes.  Not likely to go away anytime soon.

I agree with PorcupineKate, they would have to cooridinate and we would hear it long before it happens.

Inflation?  There's no inflation, says the news. 

Yeah, when things get rounded to the nearest dollar because cents are worthless, that's inflation.

And, related to inflation, is the fact that a penny costs much more than a penny to make.

Actually.....no that's a true statement.  Inflation sucks.
