Not sure if it has anything to do with the current fighting and general situation at the Russian/Ukrainian borders, but the prices of 7,62x39 surplus ammo have gone up lately here in Czech Rep. and bulk ammo deals are not too common now, either.

I would guess it has something to do with the issues they are having.

I received an ad from Centerfire systems with this "screaming bargain"

With each item bought in the specials, you have the "opportunity" to purchase a 500rd brick of armscor 22LR ammo for "only" $49.99

I guess its better than getting @n@lly r@ped by a 900 lb gorilla, but this is supposed to be a "deal"?

I suppose there is 22LR out there, but at this price I will pass.

I would really like to replenish my stock of 22LR, but I am not going to the walmart to do it one brick at a time, nor am I willing to pay $50 a brick, so I'll wait. I used to buy it 8-10 thousand rounds at a time, but I can't find it anymore.

I'm starting to think the Great 22LR Drought is finally winding down.  Cabela's today actually had a shelf of .22LR - Remington Thunderbolt and Winchester Super-X bricks, and 50 round boxes of Remington Cyclone.  There was no mob scene to get them, and it was in the afternoon on a busy Saturday, and they still weren't sold out.

$25 for the bricks of Thunderbolt, $35 for the Winchester (which was packaged in a little wooden box for some reason).  $4/box for the Cyclone.  Not too much more than Cabela's charged before the panic, if my memory is correct.  This was at the Buda, TX store.

I talked to the sporting goods manager at the local Walmart about .22 .LR.  He says it comes in almost every night, but there are several men that show up at 5:30 am each day and sit in a line... using folding chairs from a display, until the ammo goes up for sale.  Limit is three boxes per person, but the 550 bulk packs count as one box.

The .22 hording has not ended, because it is cheaper. I am seeing a regular supply of 5.56 and .308 these days. Pistol ammo of all kinds seem to be back.

Some people have too much time on their hands. I would like to purchase 10-20 thousand rounds, but I am not gonna do it 500 at a time. My last purchase was over 3 years ago, 8000 rounds, 240 dollars I believe.

But is the .223 still around $9 for the "cheap" stuff?  It wasn't that long ago I was buying PMC at Cabela's or the country store for $5-6/20rnd box.

That frustrates me a lot.  It's a high volume style of cartridge, and is not really cheap or easy to handload.

I think that PMC Bronze stuff is around $7/box now.  Still more expensive than the good old days, but I have a feeling that we're approaching the "new normal" price level for most common calibers, unless the political situation changes significantly.

Bass Pro in Colorado Springs has bulk pack .22 to include Federal bricks and Federal Auto Match.  Limit is one brick per day.  They have kept it in stock across 3 visits so they seem to be keeping up.

Earlier this year I was showing up at my local wally world when the delivery trucks showed up hoping to score some much needed 22's.  I got to talking with the same faces regularly on the same nights waiting  for ammo too.  We would talk and swap stories on ammo shortages.  One guy got t here earlier than anyone and since wally world has a limit on three boxes per person per day I thought I would score.  Turn's out that they had one case of ammo.  It had two thousand rounds in that case divided into two boxes at one k each.  He would not split the 2k case with me and said he had several grandkids that he takes shooting all the time and has a  hard time keeping them in ammo trying to be a good grandpa.

I saw this guy today at the local Tanner gun show selling a table full of 22 ammo at 200% mark up.  I asked him if he was selling this ammo to his grand kids at 200% profit.  I told him that it was guys like him is contributing to the 22 ammo problem.  Karma is a bitch.

Has anybody noticed a drop in 7.62 X 39 yet.  There is a lot of talk of the Russian arms import ban having a negative effect.  I was just wodering if anyone has seen it yet.

I don't buy it myself, but last 2 trips to stores that sell ammo each had a whole shelf of Tula/Wolf.

Still widely available around here, but the price seems to have levelled off.  Prices had been slowly declining for several months, but that seems to have stopped.

.223/5.56 wholesale prices are up. Don't expect to see prices back where they were any time soon. It's not the retailers in that case. I am just now starting to see some deals on it coming back, but still more expensive than before.

I have been seeing increased prices for a while and recently found my local hunting store was out of 303 British as they couldn't get any from their suppliers. Not the most commonly used ammo but its the first time I have had to drive around several stores to find a certain calibre.

Chatting to the owner, it looks like the shortages in the US are affecting other countries as well.  The importers are struggling at times to get ammo from US companies.

My AR like steel cased Tula ammo.  No feeding or extraction issues.  At $6/box of 20 I can't handload that cheap.

Accuracy isn't awesomr but for plinking or moving drills this might be the new normal for me.

I haven't been looking at ammo lately but I walked by the Wal-Mart ammo section the other day and it was bare in all the common calibers. I can't believe they aren't keeping that stocked...

yeah... same thing here in WI. No idea why. Maybe the riots have people panic buying?

No, it's been that way the past several months, unrelated to the riots. At least up until this point.

The Wal-Marts in the city here (Austin) are pretty bare, ammo-wise, but the stores in smaller, more rural towns around here seem to have a pretty good supply.  Maybe Wal-Mart is prioritizing sending ammo to stores that tend to sell more of it?

On the .22LR front, today Cabela's had 1000-round packs of Winchester M-22 for $55.  They sold pretty quickly once they hit the shelves.   But I took the 1000-round bulk packaging as a good sign that at least some manufacturers are getting caught up with backorders.  Otherwise, they'd be more likely to split that 1000 rounds up into smaller packages.  They also had quite a few 222 round boxes of Winchester white box ($15), and plenty of CCI Mini-Mags in 100-round boxes.  Limit one box per customer, of course.

They had half a shelf full of .22LR at Gander Mtn. this afternoon. I just picked up 1000 rounds of CCI mini-mags for $7.98/box of 100.  :happydance:

They had 525 round boxes of Federal for $24.95 but a limit of one per day on those.

That's a lot of minimags to buy at once.  Personally the 525 Federal works in all my .22lr guns, and was my goto brand for many years.  Is $25 the new normal?  seems like it was $15 just recently. :(

If I had more cash with me I would have bought more. Nothing runs through that Marlin 60 like the mini-mags.

I sometimes run Federal, but I get at least one jam every 100 or so. I have never had a jam with the mini-mags.

Oh, and I imagine that is the new normal. It has been a long time since I bought a box of 50 .22LR for 49 cents.  ;)
