durable polyester underwear: what's worth your coin?

I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on the different brands of polyster long under wear? did anyone feel one brand was superior/more durable/worth your investment over the others?

I'm wondering about the thin wicking layer underwear.

Don't ever wear polyester anywhere near flame or if you plan to get hit by lightening.... j/k I hope

I think wool is a better choice, just IMO

I've had great results from patagonia; also smartwool if you want to go the wool route per chrisdfw's guidance.  Both are shockingly procey and there may be less expensive alternatives that are as good -- I'm just not aware.  Don't think you'll go wrong with these two though.  You can usually get 40-50% off if you're patient and keep an eye out.

+1 for Under Armor, as a Firefighter there were concerns but to be honest if your underwear starts melting you're likely already in 3rd degree burn territory. The only time I don't wear them is when fighting wildland fires. Otherwise, very comfortable and stays dry all day.

I just keep an eye out on the clearance sections of outfitter shops and sometimes decent gear shows up.

Question:
Is UA Heat gear for hot weather or to keep you hot.  Is UA Cold gear for cold weather or to keep you cool?

I will also add that while the poly comment about the fire was meant to be mildly amusing, I prefer wool for other reasons.
As far as brand, I have had good results with smartwool. And their socks are great too.

One big reason is that it seems to me the poly stink sooner. Many times I am using these types of underwear it is because I am camping and hiking, and so don't have easy access to a laundry.

Because lets face it, I am not wearing long underwear on a regular basis in Texas, its usually for an outdoor adventure of some duration.

I cannot say much about polypro long underwear, but I can say that I do use UnderArmor extensively as part of my workout clothes (and wash them often) and have had great results.

You wear Heat Gear in the heat and Cold Gear in the cold.
