Long Lasting Wicks?
« on: November 27, 2012, 04:43:47 PM »
Hi

I collected some of my swc that were at a location. Some were two years old with the original scrap/old clothes wicks.

The wicks have rotted away! Is their a more durable material for a wick?

I Have not used this but I believe its worth a try.... If you use Geotextile   see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geotextile     it is used as a stabiliser to cover the clay/rock subsoil before the road is formed,  it is very stable underground ( less so if exposed to light ) and it will wick water from your reservoir. you may be able to get a yard or two from civil contractors if you ask nicely. You could also use capillary matting which is sold  by Horticultural suppliers and maybe easier to get hold of but can be expensive as always shop around the web for prices.

Cheers
