low cost 40 S & W ammo suggestions
« on: February 21, 2013, 10:42:42 AM »
Can anyone suggest where I can purchase 9mm, 380 abd 40 S&W ammo online at a decent price? I'm looking to purchase about 500 of each caliber for target practice.

thanks,

Joe

Google "Time Machine" and see what you can find.  January 2012 I paid $165/1,000 for 9mm.  Now the cheapest I can find anywhere is local for $300/1,000 and I'm not finding anything on line for less than that.  http://www.gunbot.net/ammo/9mm/

Tough times for all out there.

I visit my local stores regularly.   I'm not pestering anyone with questions, but they recognize me all the same.   By chance today I found some Winchester (the loose pack 100rnd boxes) of  9mm, 40S&W, 380 and 38 spl.   They had 3 or 4 of each.

I bought one box of 9mm, left two on the shelf for the next two folks.   $26 after tax

Only thing you can do is persistently visit your local places and hope to catch them on the day they get in a shipment. Everything around me has been perpetually wiped out for going on two months now except for premium labels (e.g. Speer GoldDot). I got into reloading last year because even then the prices were creeping up gradually and now they exploded.

I've been watching this gunbot site.  You can filter the data for the caliber your are looking for.

http://www.gunbot.net/

From my observations, availability has been improving but prices are still quite high.  I live in Colorado where supply is super tight.  My son-in-law lives in Idaho and gets much better pricing and availability for whatever reason.  He's delivered some to me and has also sent some via UPS.  It cost just a little over $40 to ship 1000 rds of S&W 40 and 1500 rounds of 22LR.

I've been looking every day on gunbroker.com lately.

AIM Surplus has pretty decent prices, like $17/50 for pistol ammo.  Not a lot of selection but they seem to have some in stock most of the time.
