I tried to do another 2 order - and the shipping was over 200 dollars - so something is fubared

It looks like the seller (Best Service Stores) must have sold out on the cheap ones.  Now all that are left are the ones "packed with gold".  The only other things the seller has are toys and toy related goods.  Thought it might help to check for everyone.

I will be sure to post confirmation of the contents when I get the two I purchase but I am more interested how the OP found these deals. Do you have some type of alert email in place or did you happen to be searching for them?

I've had that FAK in my Amazon shopping cart for quite a few months.  I wanted it, but wasn't willing to spend $130, so I waited.  When I checked my shopping cart that morning, I noticed the price change.

Also, since Amazon's prices change a lot on some products, I monitor the prices of certain products by using a free service called CamelCamelCamel.com.  I use it as my wishlist.  Whenever the price of a product drops to a price I'm willing to pay, I receive an email alert.  Here's the price history of the FAK we were watching:

http://camelcamelcamel.com/Elite-Large-Stocked-First-Aid/product/B003H2EODW

By the way, I am not affiliated with Amazon or the seller in any way.  I was just sharing a good deal with all of the forum members.

Picked one up on Saturday for $28 plus $9 shipping. A couple of hours after I ordered the price went back up to $130ish. Should get it later this week.   :D

What is the typical expiration for these products? +yr into the future?

According to an FAQ on Cooper Safety Supply's website, they typically expire 3-5 years from the date of manufacture.

I picked one of these up about 15 years ago, paid a little (i.e., a LOT!) more than $30!

They're a nice collection, and yeah, I had to replace all of the dated stuff twice now. The kit folds out into thirds, and the only drawback I could see is that the pockets in each section are side-zippered only which makes it tough to get things out, especially the bulky things like the splints or large packing materials. Mine also has no way to label anything other than using a permanent marker.

It is also a well-packed CUBE with shoulder straps - I'm not sure how well it would ruck for a day in the bush.   :o

Men arrived today.  I'm very impressed.  Everything is in date and nothing expires for at least 15 months.  Bluehound, you are the man!

Those of you who got it, here are the things I'm adding into the pack to make it more complete for immediate trauma attention while you wait for ems (this stuff would be less valuable in a SHTF scenario because the patient who needs these is very likely to need advanced medical care in the long term).

Tourniquet
Chest seal
"Israeli" pressure bandage
I threw in some glow sticks because I had some

I'll probably also get some quick clot like product for it.

LOL. Probably should have said "mine". (I notice when I use this IPad from work that it has a tendency to change my spelling in weird ways...)

Adding a well trained medic to the kit would be interesting, but having worked with many of them in the past, I'd be worried about having to feed them...

Yup, mine just came today.  Add me to the list of "I should've ordered a few more.  Oh well, it may drop again.  May not.  Might just be a loss-leader that worked.

I made these videos for a friend so they aren't really edited but they show the bags, with content, and them repacked.

Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZsgiKZEoV4
part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGbiRw7Ok9s
Part 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO_M3KDR3aI

Will definitely get more if they go this low again.

Are Burtons vids working for everyone else? Won't on my PC for some strange reason. I get a black square and no GO button.

I also would buy 3 more for Christmas gifts too if they go that low.

They are working for me, however, last night YouTube was also giving me an error message and not letting me see anything.  I have the app on my work IPad and had to sign off and log back in to get it to work again.  If you have been logged in to YouTube for a while you might try this.

My take on those (I had both lids) is they are for whatever is needed.  I've seen those thrown in other 1st aid kits as well.  I don't personally use them, does anyone have good applications for them?

Putting your own pain relief in? I know I had them in my SAR FAK I put together to keep squishy containers like eye ointments from getting crushed and goo-ing all over my pack/FAK. Could also use for putting objects removed from someone like ticks, buckshot, whatever... to take in for analysis?

Cedar

PS.. oh.. and you can use them for eyewash cups.. we did that at the vet clinic

I like the specimen and eye wash container ideas. The idea of putting small squeezable stuff in them for protection is also good.   I'd rather see pain reliever kept in its own container so everyone knows exactly what it is and when it expires.
