Yes, but it works best if you use the "red neck wine glass" style.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Original-RedNek-Wine-Glass/dp/B004HZR94O/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1383360840&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=mason+jar+wine+glass

You can buy the regular canning jars at the Dollar Store then glue a cheapy candle stick holder onto the bottom yourself for about $1.50 a piece.

I didn't know they made mantles that screwed onto quart jars

That appears to be a much better price for the set of four than assembingeven two from the parts offered by Lehman's. Good tip, thank you.

You can get the parts to make these at Lehman's. It will cost you a buck or two more, but the burners are better quality.

Adapter Ring/Lid for Mason Jar Oil Lamp

Better #2 Size Burner for oil lamps

And get a nice Chimney (2-7/8" - 3"OD) and extra 3/4" wicks while you're there.

Anyone living in northern Indiana needs to visit Yoders in Shipshewana.  It is where the Amish shop.  They have tons of lamps, wicks, etc.  They have the Dietz lanterns that are popular with Amish and Mennonites.

What a neat way to use jars that are no longer suitable for canning due to a little nick in the rim.

Has anyone tried the Mason Jar lids with the solar inserts?  I am curious as to how well they work and how long the charge lasts.  I saw them on eBay.
