Overnight Camping Trip
« on: December 08, 2013, 02:58:37 PM »
Left Saturday morning for an overnight camping trip at my friends property. We had about 6 inches of snow on the ground. Temps in the low 20's, overnight low of about 15.  Busy day setting up camp and chopping wood. Capped off the day with some smoked chili, hot chocolate with Baileys, and a nice cigar around the fire.

Sounds like fun  :o . . . .  It's good to do things like this so that you know what to do and how you will perform if a real need arises.

Personally I prefer a wall tent with a wood stove in it  ;)

Beautiful pic, thanks!

Counting down the days for this upper respiratory crud to clear so that I can get back into the woods.  Between that and the holidays, it's looking like January at current pace.

I just ordered another black MSS bag so I can drag my son out this winter.  Now for a better tent!

I love it when people go winter camping!!  Thanks for the pic.

Did you put any insulation under the tents? When I went dog sledding we put pine branches or straw under the tents (not all years, but often).

Under the tent I put a standard plastic ground sheet.  Inside the tent I put spread out a wool blanket.  I used a Kelty Basecamp pad (R-Value 8.11), a Therm-a-Rest Z Lite, and the Military Sleep System.  I also had a Mr Buddy heater to warm up a little in the morning.

I use to do a lot of winter camping when I was a kid, I need to get back into it. It is wonderful being out there and its cold and silent, no one to bother you.

I love winter camping as there is no bears and no mosquitoes.
